Abstract
Un apilamiento de celdas de combustible comprende una pluralidad de celdas de combustible en una pila, la pila define dos caras finales paralelas opuestas. Una placa final se dispone en cada cara final opuesta de la pila. Cada placa final define una superficie de compresión adyacente a y en relación de compresión con una de las dos caras finales paralelas opuestas respectiva. Un mecanismo de acoplamiento se adhiere a las placas finales para así mantener las celdas de combustible en la pila bajo compresión. Por lo menos una, preferentemente ambas, de las placas finales comprende un elemento preformado que define la superficie de compresión, el elemento preformado está configurado con una curvatura predeterminada de modo tal que la superficie de compresión es una superficie convexa cuando el elemento preformado no está bajo carga mientras que, bajo la aplicación de la carga para mantener las celdas de combustible bajo compresión, la flexión del elemento preformado entre elementos del mecanismo de acoplamiento hace que la cara de compresión se vuelva una superficie sustancialmente plana. Esto proporciona distribución de presión uniforme a través de las caras finales de la pila de celdas de combustible usando menos componentes y de peso más liviano.
