Abstract
Se provee una semilla de maíz transgénica que expresa un gen que codifica un doble mutante del gen de E. coli glgC en los plástidos del endosperma. La proteína mutante posee una sustitucion de prolina por ácido aspártico en el aminoácido 295 y una sustitucion de ácido glutamico por glicina en el aminoácido 296. La semilla de maíz transgénica de la invencion se caracteriza por mayores niveles de cierto numero de aminoácidos y aceite, comparada con una semilla de maíz isogénica, que no expresa el transgen en un plástido del endosperma. Sin embargo, la cantidad de almidon en la semilla de maíz transgénica de la invencion disminuye o es igual al contenido en la semilla de maíz isogénica de control. La solicitud también se refiere a una semilla de maíz transgénica que expresa cualquier AGPAsa exogena a un plástido de endosperma de maíz, dicha AGPasa posee propiedades cinéticas similares a aquellas del mutante de E.coli GlgC, con una sustitucion de prolina por ácido aspártico en el aminoácido 295 y una sustitucion de ácido glutamico por glicina en el aminoácido 296.
