Abstract

Una red de comunicaciones (40) comprende un nodo que utiliza la carga util de células ATM del primer tipo de protocolo AAL para formar células ATM de unsegundo tipo de protocolo AAL1. La red tiene células ATM con paquetes de protocolo AAL2 portados en una primera interfaz (54) entre dos nodos (42, 44) de lared. Por medio de la utilizacion de paquetes de protocolo AAL2, se multiplexan muchos canales de usuario a un VC ATM entre los nodos. En uno de los dos nodosdesignado como nodo de control (44), de acuerdo con el método de la invencion los canales de usuario terminan al mapear paquetes AAL2 de los canales de usuarioen células ATM modificadas que poseen un protocolo AAL distinto de AAL2. El protocolo AAL utilizado para las células ATM modificadas, denominado AAL2principal, requiere que los paquetes AAL2 portados en la carga util de la célula ATM sean paquetes completos y que la carga util ATM no tenga campo de iniciode tipo AAL2. Preferiblemente el protocolo principal AAL2 solo se transporta un paquete entero AAL2 por caga util de célula ATM. La terminacion de los canalesde usuario AAL2 en el nodo de control preferiblemente se produce un recurso comun y centralizado denominado unidad de manejo de células (32). La provision delaunidad de manejo de células (32) y el protocolo principal AAL2 permite el empleo de equipo ATM estándar, por ejemplo un conmutador ATM (30). Se presenta unared movil de telecomunicaciones como ejemplo de realizacion.
