IMPROVEMENT IN SCREW-DRIVERS.`
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs THOMPSON, of Taunton, in the county Of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Screw-Drivers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a clear, full, and exact description Of the con struction `and Operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making aA part of this specification, in which- Figure2 is a perspective View of the improved 'instrument with the lever `open and ready for use.l Fig. l is a perspective view showing the instrument with the lever closed.

B is a lever, which is attached to the screwdriver by a strong joint, C. The leverB is so constructed that it may be closed upon the screw-driver when not being used, as shown in Fig. l.
. The operation is as follows: In driving a screw or in starting One out it Often requires more force than the operator can exert upon the handle of the instrument. In this ease the lever should be thrown open, and while the instrument is held firmly in the slot of the screw by one hand the other hand will rotate the screw by means Of the lever B, thus driving the screw home with greatly increased force.
