Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain performance for reproducing at a variable speed with high recording density, and to sufficiently reduce an adjacent disturbance, by preemphasizing a sound signal and recording it by frequency-modulation when recording, and demodulating a frequency modulating signal and deemphasizing it when reproducing. CONSTITUTION:A sound signal inputted from a terminal 1 passes through a preemphasizing circuit 2, and after that, a dynamic range of the preemphasized sound signal is compressed to 1/2 by a 1/2 compressing circuit 3 whose gain is controlled by an output of a detecting circuit 4. Its output is FM-modulated 5, its undesired wave component is removed by an LPF6, and it is recorded on a magnetic tape 10 by a magnetic head 9. Subsequently, a reproduced signal passes through a BPF11, is FM-demodulated 12, is led to a holding circuit 14, and is expanded 15 double by a detecting circuit 16 which makes its signal an input. In this way, a dynamic range of a demodulated sound signal is expanded double, and is reproduced and outputted.
