Abstract
Gas phase process for the mnaufacture of chloropentafluoroethane by the action of hydrofluoric acid on dichlorotetrafluoroethane in the presence of a catalyst, characterized in that the catalyst is prepared by reacting, in gas phase, an activated alumina whose sodium oxide content is less than 300ppm and in which the volume of the pores with a radius of 40 angstroms and more is greater than 0.7 cm3/ g with hydrofluoric acid or with a mixture of hydrofluoric acid with air, nitrogen or a fluoro compound. Said chloropentafluoroethane is useful as a solvent, propellant and refrigerant.
