The invention relates to the field of anti-theft devices for automobiles; specifically, a locking device for automobile gear levers.

According to the present invention there is provided an anti-theft device for automobile including a component adapted to be fitted to a gear lever or gear arm of the automobile, said component having a hole for insertion of a retractable plunger, said retractable plunger coupled to a movable lock cylinder slidably located ina casing adapted to be affixed to said automobile within the gear console of said automobile. . The automobile anti-theft device of the preferred embodiment consists of two (2) parts, specifically, the lock set (1) and the component (100) to be assembled to : the gear lever or the gear arm (33). 25° Figure 1 illustrates the longitudinal profile of the lock of this invention, : having a pin (2) located ina slot (3) ona casing (6). The lock (1) consists of a lock cylinder (4) incorporated with a tumbler (5). The lock is installed in the casing (6). A cylinder-shaped end or plunger (7) of the lock cylinder (4) protrudes from a hole (8) located at the tail end of the casing (6). While locating the lock cylinder (4) to the casing (6), the pin (2), whichis a grub-screw, is screwed to the lock cylinder (4) through the slot (3). A spring (9) is loaded between the rear part of the lock cylinder (4) and the inner end of the casing (6).
Figure 2 illustrates the longitudinal profile of the lock of this invention, - displaying a cam (10) fitted inside the plug of the lock cylinder (4) behind the tumbler (5). A spring (11) is loaded between the hole drilled into the cam and the lock cylinder (4). In the locked position, the cam will obstruct the locking bolt inside ahole (1 2) located on casing (6). A detent (13) is made on the cam (10) for abutting a ledge (14) of the tumbler (5), to unlock the device.
Figure 3 illustrates the component to be assembled to the gear lever or the gear arm (33), which is comprised of a fastener (20) for the gear lever or gear arm (33). The fastener is separated into two (2) parts (21 and 22). Each part has a concave dent (23 and 24) on their opposing sides, for attachment to the gear lever or gear arm (35). A platform (25) is located on one part of the fastener (21 or 22), containing a hole (26) to allow the insertion of the cylinder-shaped end (7) of the lock cylinder (4), which is pressed into the locking position. © Figure 4 illustrates the flange of this invention which is fitted to the gear arm.
The lock (1) is installed on a structure (30) located around the transmission mechanism of the gear. The gear lever or gear arm fastener (20) is fitted to the gear arm (33) in such a manner that forces the gear into a position that enables the cylinder-shaped end (7) to be inserted into the hole (26), while the lock is pressed into the locking position. :
Figure 5 illustrates the flange of this invention installed with the gear lever (33). The lock (1) is installed on a structure (30) located around the transmission mechanism of the gear. The gear lever or gear arm fastener. (20) is fitted to the gear lever (33) in such manner that forces the gear into a position that enables the cylinder-shaped end (7) to be inserted into the hole (26), while the lock is pressed into the locking position. - 30 The invention will be understood to embrace many further modifications as will be readily apparent to persons skilled in the art and which will be deemed to reside within the broad scope and ambit of the invention, there having been set forth herein only the broad nature of the invention and a specific embodiment by way of example.

Claims (5)
1. An anti-theft device for automobiles including a component adapted to be fitted | oo to a gear lever or gear arm of the automobile, said component having a hole for insertion of a retractable plunger, said retractable plunger coupled to a movable lock cylinder slidably located in a casing adapted to be affixed to said automobile : within the gear console of said automobile.
2. The anti-theft device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said casing includes a slot - 10 for reception of a screw attached to said lock cylinder for guiding movement of said lock cylinder.
3. The anti-theft device of claim 1 or claim 2, wherein said plunger is spring loaded to release said plunger when said locking cylinder is moved to its unlocked : © position.

The anti-theft device of any one of the preceding claims wherein said component includes a pair of parts adapted to be secured to opposite sides of said gear lever or gear arm and one of said parts having a platform which includes said hole. oo 5.
