Description
A vehicle for the medical treatment of persons in remote areas
The invention relates to a vehicle for the medical treatment of persons in remote areas, comprising a room for carrying out medical examinations and/or treatment.
In a large number of developing countries, especially on the African continent, the threat by infectious diseases, and AIDS in particular, represents a serious human, social and economical challenge. Combating this illness can be promoted on the one hand by improved awareness and on other hand by purposeful medical diagnosis over the widest possible area. Outside of urban regions it is very difficult to reach the population to a sufficient extent and with the required efficiency.
It is known to provide vehicles with medical equipment in order to provide coverage to areas with inadequate medical care. It has also been noticed that it is difficult to motivate a sufficiently large part of the population to use such vehicles.
The starting point for the present invention is to further develop a vehicle of the kind mentioned above in such a way that on the one hand it is possible to perform medical examinations and treatment to such an extent as is required and on the other hand it is possible to arrange the course of the examinations in such a way that even in underdeveloped regions without a respective infrastructure and with a lack of communication links it is possible to provide an efficient evaluation of the examination results and to provide purposeful feedback for the patient. A further important aspect is to improve the motivation of the population to take part in examinations and treatments to such an extent that a sufficient coverage can be achieved.
These objects are achieved in accordance with the invention in such a way that the vehicle further contains a laboratory for performing analyses and that a large screen display apparatus, which is connected to a playback apparatus, is attached to the exterior of the vehicle. The relevant aspect of the invention is the combination of a medical examination and treatment unit with a laboratory in order to enable the immediate evaluation of blood samples, urine samples or the like and to offer at the same time the screening of information videos or high- quality entertainment programs for a large number of people. The large-screen display apparatus fulfils a variety of purposes. On the one hand, it represents a considerable attraction which will cause a large number of people to come to the vehicle in the first place. It further offers the possibility to usefully bridge waiting periods by providing medical information such as on the prevention of AIDS or
) the like. It is only the combination of these three units that can ensure a sufficient acceptance and use of the medical facilities.
Optimal observance by a plurality of people can be ensured in such a way that the large-screen display apparatus can be flipped open or is provided with a mobile configuration.
The relevant aspect is that the large-screen display apparatus can also be used during the day in the outside. In an especially preferable embodiment it is therefore provided that the large-screen display apparatus is arranged as an LED display.
It is especially advantageous for information on AIDS and prevention that the room for performing medical examinations and/or treatment is equipped for taking blood samples. It is especially advantageous if the laboratory is equipped for performing blood or urine analyses.
The assignment to very remote regions can be ensured especially in such a way that an autonomous power supply device is provided. The spatial requirements placed on the diagnostic area and the laboratory area can be fulfilled in an especially advantageous manner in such a way that the vehicle is configured as a semi-trailer truck. It is especially preferable in this connection if a wall region is extensible in order to increase the working area when the vehicle is parked.
The invention is now explained in closer detail by reference to embodiments shown in the drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 shows a side view of a vehicle in accordance with the invention with an opened or extended large-screen display apparatus in a first embodiment;
Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal sectional view of a further embodiment, and
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view along line III-III in Fig. 2.
The vehicle 1 in Fig. 1 is arranged as a semi-trailer which rests in the conventional manner with a fifth wheel 2 on a schematically shown towing vehicle 100 and is pulled by the same. The vehicle 1 itself is substantially divided in a housing and sleeping area 3 for the staff, a room 4 for performing medical examinations and/or treatment and a laboratory 5 for performing blood and urine analyses. A large-screen display apparatus 6 which can be flipped upwardly or extended is provided above the side wall of the vehicle. It comprises an LED display 7. Loudspeakers 8 are further provided for sound reproduction. During
) the travel, the large-screen display apparatus 6 can be swiveled about joints and can be placed on the side wall or the roof of the vehicle 1. Preferably, the large- screen display apparatus 6 can be lowered into the interior of the vehicle and be extended by means of the support elements 9 when necessary. Doors 10 allow accessing the interior of the vehicle and windows 11 are used for providing lighting with daylight.
The laboratory 5 is equipped with all the required analytical devices for combating AIDS. They allow the determination of a preliminary result already a short time after taking the blood sample. In the time until the determination of the result, the patient is generally informed and entertained by the films shown on the LED screen 7.
In the embodiment of Figs. 2 and 3, a sanitary unit 12 with a shower and toilet is provided for in the housing and sleeping area 7. The room 4 for performing medical examinations and/or treatment and the laboratory 5 are provided with an extensible configuration in order to gain additional space. Despite a width restriction of the vehicle of 2.5 m, it is possible to still achieve a room depth of 4 m or more. Fig. 3 shows the extended wall parts 13. The process of retraction and extension is best performed in a hydraulic fashion.
The large-screen display apparatus 6 is provided in the embodiment according to
Figs. 2 and 3 with an upwardly extensible configuration. A stowage space 14 is provided for receiving the large-screen display apparatus 6, which stowage room is situated at the rear side of the room 4 and the laboratory 5. The vehicle 1 further contains a storage room 15 and a room 16 for receiving an autonomous power supply device in the form of a power generator 18. Solar cells (not shown) can support the power supply. Stairs 17 facilitate entering the vehicle.
The present invention allows providing comprehensive care coverage even for remote areas.
