Definitions
- This disclosure relates to technology for detecting hydrogen sulfide.
- Hydrogen sulfide is harmful to the human body and corrodes or deteriorates metal and resin materials. Because hydrogen sulfide is invisible, there have been cases where workers have been exposed to hydrogen sulfide while working in areas where it may be generated, without noticing it being generated unexpectedly. Therefore, it is important to be able to detect hydrogen sulfide.
- One technology used to detect hydrogen sulfide is a sensor that makes use of the fact that the electrical and thermal properties of an element change when hydrogen sulfide comes into contact with the element. However, a continuous supply of power is required to use the sensor.
- Patent Document 1 proposes a gas detector in which a metal compound that changes color when it reacts with hydrogen sulfide is dispersed in a polymeric substrate.
- Patent Document 2 proposes a gas detector that uses a membrane that allows hydrogen sulfide gas to pass through, making it possible to control the detectable hydrogen sulfide gas concentration depending on the membrane's permeability.

- FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of a hydrogen sulfide detection structure 100 according to the first embodiment.
- Fig. 2 is a plan view of the hydrogen sulfide detection structure 100 according to the first embodiment.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection structure 100 includes a hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 that changes color upon contact with hydrogen sulfide, and is used to detect the generation of hydrogen sulfide.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection structure 100 includes a reference element 120 and the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110.
- the reference member 120 is sheet-shaped (e.g., plate-shaped).
- the reference member 120 is the same color as the hydrogen sulfide detection member 110 before coloration, and does not change color even when hydrogen sulfide comes into contact with it.
- the reference member 120 is the same white color as the hydrogen sulfide detection member 110 before coloration.
- the reference member 120 includes an adhesive surface 122 and a detection surface 121.
- the adhesive surface 122 and the detection surface 121 are surfaces opposite each other.
- the adhesive surface 122 is the surface to which an adhesive is applied.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection structure 100 can be attached to the surface of a rubber glove or the like using the adhesive applied to the adhesive surface 122.
- the sensing surface 121 is the surface that comes into contact with hydrogen sulfide.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is formed in the form of a film on the surface of the detection surface 121. Specifically, the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is formed in the form of a film in the shape of the letters " H2S " on the surface of the detection surface 121. Therefore, the surface of the hydrogen sulfide detection structure 100 includes an area formed by the reference element 120 and an area formed by the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is formed as a film on the surface of the detection surface 121, but the configuration of the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is not limited to the above example, as long as it can come into contact with hydrogen sulfide.
- a configuration in which the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is provided over the entire or part of the thickness of the hydrogen sulfide detection structure 100 is conceivable.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 changes color upon contact with hydrogen sulfide. Specifically, the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is white before changing color, and upon contact with hydrogen sulfide, it changes color to black due to a color reaction.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 includes a polymeric base material, a coloring agent that changes color upon contact with hydrogen sulfide, and a color-change promoter that promotes the coloring of the coloring agent.
- the object to be detected by the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 of this embodiment is, for example, gaseous hydrogen sulfide.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 of this embodiment can accurately detect whether a specific gas (air) contains hydrogen sulfide.
- the concentration of hydrogen sulfide in a specific gas (how much hydrogen sulfide the gas contains) can also be detected.
- the object to be detected by the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 may also be, for example, hydrogen sulfide dissolved in a liquid such as water.
- At least a portion of the hydrogen sulfide that comes into contact with the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 of this embodiment dissolves in the color-change accelerator contained in the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110.
- the present inventors presume that the hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) dissolved in the color-change accelerator is ionized and then reacts with the color-change agent after ionization.
- the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 of this embodiment the majority of the hydrogen sulfide quickly dissolves in the color-change accelerator, and the present inventors believe that the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is likely to change color even when the color-change agent content is low.
- “easily change color” includes the color-change agent being highly sensitive even when the concentration of hydrogen sulfide is low, or the color-change agent being rapidly changed color upon contact with hydrogen sulfide.
- the type of color-development accelerator is not particularly limited, but examples include various oils. Adding oil to the polymer material that makes up the substrate promotes the dissolution or permeation of hydrogen sulfide into the substrate, making it easier for hydrogen sulfide to come into contact with the color-development agent in the substrate. Therefore, oils that are highly soluble in hydrogen sulfide are suitable as color-development accelerators.
- low molecular weight oils are exemplified as color-change promoters.
- Low molecular weight oils are, for example, oils with a molecular weight of less than 10,000. Even more preferably, oils with a molecular weight of 5,000 or less (e.g., 1,000 or less) are exemplified as color-change promoters.
- Polar oil is an oil with uneven electrical polarity within its molecules. Because hydrogen sulfide is a polar material, it dissolves more easily in polar oil than in a base material made of a non-polar polymer material. Therefore, by using polar oil as a color-development promoter, color development by the colorant can be effectively promoted.
- oils used in color development accelerators include silicone oil, ester oil, and process oil. Silicone oil is a non-polar oil. Ester oil is a polar oil. Process oil is a polar oil or a non-polar oil. The inventors of the present application have discovered that when the color development accelerator contains silicone oil, ester oil, or process oil, color development is easy even with a small amount of colorant content. Note that multiple types of oils may be used as color development accelerators. For example, a mixture of two or more oils selected from silicone oil, ester oil, and process oil is used as the color development accelerator.
- the amount of color-change accelerator contained in the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is arbitrary, but for example, the amount of color-change accelerator is 0.1 parts by mass or more and 30 parts by mass or less per 100 parts by mass of polymer material. If the amount of color-change accelerator contained relative to the polymer material is too high, it becomes difficult to knead the material during the manufacturing process. On the other hand, if the amount of color-change accelerator contained relative to the polymer material is too low, it becomes difficult for the colorant to change color.
- the amount of color-change accelerator is 0.1 parts by mass or more and 30 parts by mass or less, it is possible to achieve a high level of both ease of kneading the material during the manufacturing process and ease of color change by the colorant.
- the coloring agent contained in the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 of this embodiment will be described.
- the coloring agent is an element or compound that changes color upon contact with hydrogen sulfide.
- Examples of materials for the coloring agent include chalcophilic elements, siderophilic elements, or compounds thereof.

- siderophilic elements include manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, molybdenum, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, rhenium, osmium, iridium, platinum, and gold.
- the coloring agent is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of silver, silver compounds, copper, copper compounds, nickel, nickel compounds, cobalt, cobalt compounds, lead, lead compounds, iron, and iron compounds. More preferably, the coloring agent is at least one selected from the group consisting of silver, silver compounds, lead, lead compounds, iron, and iron compounds. The inventors have discovered that hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 using the above coloring agents is easily colored even when the coloring agent content is small.
- the colorant be in powder form.
- the form of the colorant is not critical.
- the amount of colorant contained in the hydrogen sulfide detection element 110 is arbitrary, but for example, the amount of colorant is 10 parts by mass or more and 500 parts by mass or less per 100 parts by mass of polymer material. If the amount of colorant promoter relative to the polymer material is too high, it becomes difficult to knead during the manufacturing process. On the other hand, if the amount of colorant promoter relative to the polymer material is too low, it becomes difficult for the colorant to develop color. By using an embodiment in which the amount of colorant is 10 parts by mass or more and 500 parts by mass or less, it is possible to achieve a high level of both ease of kneading during the manufacturing process and ease of color development of the colorant.

<呈色剤>
