Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method for producing a sulfide solid electrolyte.
  • Lithium ion secondary batteries are widely used in portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptop computers. Traditionally, liquid electrolytes have been used in lithium ion secondary batteries. However, in recent years, all-solid-state lithium ion secondary batteries that use solid electrolytes as the electrolyte for lithium ion secondary batteries have been attracting attention because of the promise of improved safety, high-speed charging and discharging, and smaller cases.
  • An example of a solid electrolyte used in all-solid-state lithium ion secondary batteries is a sulfide solid electrolyte.
  • the raw materials for the sulfide solid electrolyte are evaporated when the raw materials for the sulfide solid electrolyte are heated.
  • one of the raw materials, P2S5 has a low melting point and boiling point and is easily evaporated, so that the sulfide solid electrolyte obtained after heating and melting has a problem of deviation from the target composition (hereinafter, also referred to as composition deviation).
  • Patent Document 1 discloses a method in which a composite compound containing lithium, phosphorus, and sulfur is melted and vitrified, and then the molten glass is rapidly cooled, thereby preventing only the P 2 S 5 component from volatilizing during melting.
  • Patent Document 2 discloses a method in which a solid raw material is compressed and heated to melt it, thereby suppressing volatilization of the raw material and suppressing deviation in composition.
  • Patent Document 1 requires the composite compound to be synthesized in advance, which complicates the manufacturing process, and furthermore, it is not possible to suppress the volatilization of the raw materials during melting. Furthermore, in the method disclosed in Patent Document 2, the raw material needs to be compressed, which results in an extremely complicated facility structure, making it difficult to mass-produce solid electrolytes.
  • the present invention aims to provide a method for producing a sulfide solid electrolyte by a melting method that suppresses the volatilization of raw materials during melting without using complex equipment and produces a sulfide solid electrolyte having a desired composition.
  • the present invention relates to a method for producing a sulfide solid electrolyte, which comprises heating and melting a mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw materials, and cooling and solidifying the resulting melt to obtain a sulfide solid electrolyte, wherein the mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw materials contains Li 2 S and P 2 S 5 , and where A is a volume-based average particle size of the Li 2 S measured by a laser diffraction particle size distribution measurement method, and B is a volume-based average particle size of the P 2 S 5 measured by a laser diffraction particle size distribution measurement method, A ⁇ 250 ⁇ m and B ⁇ 250 ⁇ m are satisfied.

  • FIG. 1 is a flow diagram showing a method for producing a sulfide solid electrolyte according to this embodiment.
  • the manufacturing method is a method for manufacturing a sulfide solid electrolyte, comprising heating and melting a mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw materials, and cooling and solidifying the resulting melt to obtain a sulfide solid electrolyte, wherein the mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw materials contains Li 2 S and P 2 S 5 , and the mixture satisfies A ⁇ 250 ⁇ m and B ⁇ 250 ⁇ m, where A is a volume-based average particle size of the Li 2 S measured by a laser diffraction particle size distribution measurement method, and B is a volume-based average particle size of the P 2 S 5 measured by a laser diffraction particle size distribution measurement method.
  • the manufacturing method according to this embodiment includes the following steps.
  • Step S1 A step of heating and melting a mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw materials containing Li 2 S and P 2 S 5.
  • Step S2 A step of cooling and solidifying the obtained melt to obtain a sulfide solid electrolyte. Each step will be described below.
  • Step S1 Heating and melting a mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw materials containing Li 2 S and P 2 S 5 > ⁇ Mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw material containing Li 2 S and P 2 S 5

  • the volume-based average particle size of P2S5 contained in the mixture measured by a laser diffraction type particle size distribution measurement method is B
  • a ⁇ 250 ⁇ m and B ⁇ 250 ⁇ m are satisfied. This suppresses volatilization of the raw materials during melting, and a sulfide solid electrolyte having a target composition can be manufactured. This is presumably due to the following mechanism.
  • the average particle size of Li 2 S and P 2 S 5 in the mixture of sulfide solid electrolyte raw materials to less than the above-mentioned predetermined value, the specific surface area of Li 2 S particles and P 2 S 5 particles can be increased, and the contact interface between them can be expanded. Since the synthesis reaction of the sulfide solid electrolyte first proceeds at the contact interface between the particles, the reaction does not proceed in the non-contact portion and volatilizes, but by expanding the contact interface between the P 2 S 5 particles and the P 2 S 5 particles in this mixture, the non-contact portion between the particles can be reduced.
