- FIG. 2 illustrates a plan view of one embodiment of a rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) according to the present invention.
- a rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) may be configured in a state in which a plurality of optical fibers are joined in parallel through a plurality of joints (20) and rolled in the width direction.
- Each optical fiber (10) constituting the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) may have an outer diameter in the range of 180 micrometers ( ⁇ m) to 265 micrometers ( ⁇ m), and the optical fiber (10) may be configured to include a core (11), a cladding layer (12), a coating layer (13), and a coloring layer (14).
- the above core (11) may be composed of glass or synthetic resin and transmits light.
- the clad layer (12) may be formed to surround the outer surface of the core (11).
- the above cladding layer (12) uses glass or synthetic resin made of silica material having a relatively lower refractive index than the core (11), thereby causing total reflection of light passing through the center of the optical fiber (10) to transmit a signal.
- the above coating layer (13) can be formed by coating the surface of the clad layer (12) with a material including at least one of acrylate, polyimide, and carbon.
- the coating layer (13) is formed to surround the outer surface of the clad layer (12) and absorbs external impact transmitted to the clad layer (12).
- the coating layer (13) can be composed of a plurality of layers having different properties, such as modulus, in order to protect internal components.
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) is configured to be able to roll in the width direction, and each optical fiber (10) constituting the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) may include a coloring layer (14) in the outermost layer.
- the above coloring layer (14) is a coating material containing a coloring agent such as a colored or colorless pigment, which is applied to the surface of the coating layer (13) to impart color to the optical fiber (10), thereby enabling identification through color from other optical fibers.
- a coloring agent such as a colored or colorless pigment
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) can join adjacent optical fibers by forming joints, and if the bonding strength of the joints is too small, for example, if the number of joints is too small or the length of the joints is short, the optical fibers are too easily separated during the rolling process of the optical fiber ribbon, making it difficult to maintain a rolling state, and if the bonding strength is too large, for example, if there are too many joints or adjacent joints are connected to each other with resin, the flexibility is insufficient, making rolling difficult, and problems may occur in which the optical fibers are damaged during the process of branching individual optical fibers for connection at the end.
- the present invention solves the above-described problem by optimizing the arrangement of a plurality of splices for splicing adjacent optical fibers constituting a rollable optical fiber ribbon. This will be described in detail with reference to FIG. 2 and below.
- a rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) comprises a plurality of optical fibers (10) arranged in parallel, and a pair of adjacent optical fibers (10) among the plurality of optical fibers (10) are joined through a plurality of joints (20) spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber ribbon, and a distance (W G ) between two adjacent joints (20) among the plurality of joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon may be in the range of 360 micrometers ( ⁇ m) to 1120 micrometers ( ⁇ m), preferably 360 micrometers ( ⁇ m) to 835 micrometers ( ⁇ m).
- the above-mentioned rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) can be configured by joining a pair of optical fibers (10) arranged adjacently among a plurality of optical fibers (10) arranged in parallel through a plurality of joints (20) having a specific pattern along the length direction of the optical fiber ribbon.
- a plurality of optical fibers (10) constituting the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) can be joined in parallel in a state where a pair of optical fibers (10) are externally connected or slightly spaced apart from each other and are adjacent to each other by a joint (20), and the joint (20) can be arranged in a certain area in the circumferential direction of the optical fiber (10).
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) according to the present invention combines a plurality of joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon or the length direction of the optical fiber ribbon with a specific joint pattern formed according to a predetermined pattern rule, thereby enabling width-direction rolling while preventing separation or damage to the optical fiber (10) during the rolling process.
- the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon means the vertical direction of the optical fiber ribbon (100) based on the drawing illustrated in FIG. 2, and the length direction of the optical fiber ribbon means the direction in which the optical fiber (10) extends long, i.e., the horizontal direction.
- the joint (20) of the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) according to the present invention can be formed by a method of spraying and curing a jointing resin between adjacent optical fibers from a plurality of dispenser nozzles arranged at predetermined positions.
- the neighboring joints may be connected by the joint resin that is sprayed in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon (100) during the resin spraying process, and accordingly, flexibility is reduced in the area where the joints are connected by the joint resin, making it difficult to roll the optical fiber ribbon (100) in the width direction, and the joint (20) may be formed unnecessarily large or the joint force may be excessive, which may cause damage to the optical fiber (10) during branching work at the connection or branching end.
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) includes a plurality of joints (20) for jointing a pair of adjacent optical fibers (10), and the distance (W G ) between two adjacent joints (20) among the plurality of joints (20) formed in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon is configured to be in the range of 360 micrometers ( ⁇ m) to 1120 micrometers ( ⁇ m), preferably 360 micrometers ( ⁇ m) to 835 micrometers ( ⁇ m).
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) forms a specific joint pattern with a plurality of joints (20) as described below, but secures a sufficiently large distance (W G ) between two adjacent joints (20) among the plurality of joints formed at corresponding positions in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon, and makes the width (W B ) of the joints (20) smaller than twice the outer diameter (D F ) of the optical fibers included in the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100), thereby preventing a phenomenon in which different joints (20) are attached to each other during joint formation or more than two continuous adjacent optical fibers are connected by one adhesive portion (20).
- the width (W B ) of the joint (20) is smaller than 1.6 times the outer diameter (D F ) of the optical fiber included in the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100), a margin is secured that takes into account the deviation in the width (W B ) of the joint (20) that occurs during the manufacturing process of the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100), thereby stably securing the structure.
- FIG. 3 is an example of various arrangement shapes of four joints arranged in the width direction of a rollable optical fiber ribbon.
- a rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) is formed with a plurality of joints (20) at corresponding positions in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon, and the distance (W G ) between two adjacent joints (20) among the plurality of joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon can be secured to be a predetermined distance range or more.
- the phrase “the plurality of joints (20) are arranged at corresponding positions” means the arrangement shape of the plurality of joints (20) at positions where at least a portion of the joints (20) overlap in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber ribbon. That is, the positions of three joints (20a, 20b, 20c) in FIG. 3 correspond to each other, but one joint (20d) does not correspond.
- two joints (20) are 'adjacent' means a shape in which multiple joints (20a, 20b, 20c) are arranged adjacently at corresponding positions as described above. That is, in FIG. 3, the joint adjacent to the joint (20a) that joins the second and third optical fibers is the joint (20b) that joins the fifth and sixth optical fibers, and the joint adjacent to the joint (20b) that joins the fifth and sixth optical fibers is the joint (20c) that joins the eighth and ninth optical fibers.
- the length of a straight line connecting the lowest part of a joint (20) provided at the top in the optical fiber ribbon width direction and the uppermost part of a joint (20) provided at the bottom in the optical fiber ribbon width direction among two adjacent joints in the optical fiber ribbon width direction can be defined as a separation distance (W G ).
- a rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) may have at least three optical fibers (10) provided between two adjacent joints (20) among a plurality of joints (20) formed in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon at any position in the length direction of the optical fiber ribbon.
- a rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) according to the present invention is provided with three optical fibers (10) between two adjacent joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon as illustrated in FIG. 2, the joint (20) that joins the nth optical fiber (10) and the n+1th optical fiber (10), the joint (20) that joins the n+1th optical fiber (10) and the n+2nd optical fiber (10), and the joint (20) that joins the n+2nd optical fiber (10) and the n+3rd optical fiber (10) may be formed in a diagonal direction or a step-like pattern.
- the longitudinal positions of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the nth (n is a natural number greater than or equal to 1) optical fiber (10) and the n+1th optical fiber (10) among a plurality of optical fibers (10), the longitudinal positions of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the n+1th optical fiber (10) and the n+2nd optical fiber (10), and the longitudinal positions of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the n+2nd optical fiber (10) and the n+3rd optical fiber (10) may all be configured not to correspond.
- the longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the n+1th optical fiber (10) and the n+2th optical fiber (10) is configured to be arranged at a corresponding position between the longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the nth optical fiber (10) and the n+1th optical fiber (10) and the longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the n+2nd optical fiber (10) and the n+3rd optical fiber (10), so that the spacing between adjacent joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon (100) can be made uniform, and accordingly, uniform width-direction flexibility can be secured in the entire longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon (100).
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) according to the present invention can be configured such that the longitudinal positions of the optical fiber ribbon of the plurality of joints (20) periodically formed in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon correspond to each other.
- FIG. 4 illustrates a plan view of another embodiment of a rollable optical fiber ribbon according to the present invention.
- FIG. 4 illustrates an embodiment in which four optical fibers (10) are arranged between two adjacent joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon among the rollable optical fiber ribbons (100) according to the present invention.
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) illustrated in FIG. 4 has four optical fibers (10) arranged between two adjacent joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon, the distance (W G ) between the two adjacent joints (20) is formed to be larger than in the case where three optical fibers (10) are arranged between two adjacent joints ( 20 ) as in FIG. 2, thereby effectively preventing the phenomenon of mutual splicing between the joints and further improving flexibility in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon.
- the joints (20) for jointing the nth (n is a natural number greater than or equal to 1) optical fiber (10) and the n+1th optical fiber (10)
- the joints (20) for jointing the n+2nd optical fiber (10) and the n+3rd optical fiber (10) can be formed in a diagonal direction or a step-like pattern.
- the longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the nth optical fiber (10) and the n+1th optical fiber (10), the longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the n+1th optical fiber (10) and the n+2nd optical fiber (10), the longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the n+3rd optical fiber (10) and the n+4th optical fiber (10), and the longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon of the joint (20) that joins the n+4th optical fiber (10) and the n+5th optical fiber (10) are configured to be spaced apart from each other by the same interval, so that the interval between adjacent joints (20) in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon (100) can be made uniform, and accordingly, uniform width-direction flexibility can be secured in the entire longitudinal position of the optical fiber ribbon (100).
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) according to the present invention can be configured such that the longitudinal positions of the optical fiber ribbon of the four joints (20) periodically formed in the width direction of the optical fiber ribbon correspond to each other.
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) since a pair of adjacent optical fibers (10) among a plurality of optical fibers (10) are joined through a plurality of joints (20) spaced apart from each other along the length direction of the optical fiber ribbon, the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) is capable of rolling in the width direction while the plurality of optical fibers (10) are maintained in a mutually joined state at the joints (20) and an unjoined state is maintained in the remaining area excluding the joints (20). Therefore, the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) can be efficiently accommodated in the internal space of a tube in an optical cable or a conduit.
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) can form the joint (20) that joins adjacent pairs of optical fibers (10) discontinuously, rather than forming it over the entire boundary area between adjacent pairs of optical fibers (10).
- the bonding strength of the joints (20) can be reduced so that the optical fiber ribbon (100) can be configured to roll in the width direction.
- the joint strength is insufficient, a problem may occur in which the boundary area of a pair of adjacent optical fibers (10) is separated during the rolling process or the separated optical fibers (10) are damaged.
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) may not roll easily, or the optical fiber (10) may be damaged during the branching process of the optical fiber (10), or a large amount of resin residue may be left on the branched optical fiber (10), and the optical fiber (10) may not be branched cleanly.
- the present invention applies a joint of the following form to enable width-wise rolling while preventing a pair of adjacent optical fibers (10) from being separated from each other during the rolling process and, furthermore, to prevent damage to the optical fiber (10) and enable easy branching even when a specific optical fiber (10) is branched.
- the length (L B ) of each joint (20) is 5 millimeters (mm) to 18 millimeters (mm)
- the non-joined length (L N ) between two adjacent joints (10) among the plurality of joints (20) that join a pair of adjacent optical fibers (10) is configured to be 30 millimeters ( mm ) to 70 millimeters (mm).
- the ratio (L G /L B ) of the junction length (L B ) to the longitudinal separation distance (L G ) of the optical fiber ribbon of the junction (20) may be 0.4 to 2. If the ratio (L G /L B ) of the junction length (L B ) to the longitudinal separation distance (L G ) of the optical fiber ribbon of the junction (20) is less than 0.4, the flexibility of the optical fiber ribbon (100) may be reduced overall, making it difficult to roll in the width direction, whereas if the ratio (L G /L B ) of the junction length (L B ) to the longitudinal separation distance (L G ) of the optical fiber ribbon of the junction ( 20 ) is greater than 2, it is possible to roll the optical fiber ribbon (100) in the width direction, but it has been confirmed that the optical fiber (10) due to the junction (20) unintentionally spreads apart between the core wires, making it difficult to easily perform a batch connection operation.
- the longitudinal separation distance (L G ) of the joint (20) may be smaller than or equal to the length (L B ) of the joint (20).
- the ratio (L N /L B ) of the unjoined length (L N ) to the length (L B ) of the joint (20) may be 2 to 10. If the ratio (L N /L B ) of the unjoined length (L N ) to the length (L B ) of the joint (20) is less than 2, the flexibility of the optical fiber ribbon (100) is reduced, so that the optical fiber (10) may be broken during the rolling process or it may not be easy to branch a specific optical fiber (10), whereas if the ratio (L N /L B ) of the unjoined length (L N ) to the length (L B ) of the joint (20) is greater than 10, the widthwise rolling of the optical fiber ribbon (100) is possible, but the bonding strength by the joint (20) is insufficient, so that the optical fiber (10) is easily separated.
- the joints (20) of the above-described rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) are arranged in a periodic and repeated manner in the longitudinal direction, and considering the length (L B ) of the joints (20), the length (L N ) of the non-joined portion, and the longitudinal separation distance (L G ) of the optical fiber ribbons of the joints (20), the period (P) may preferably be 24 millimeters (mm) to 84 millimeters (mm).
- the joint (20) of the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) according to the present invention can be formed by UV curing or laser sintering various resins or resins such as UV curable resin or laser sintering powder, and the amount of the resin or resin forming the joint (20) can be formed substantially the same.
- the rollable optical fiber ribbon (100) controls the properties of the joint (20) to a predetermined range under the premise that a specific pattern of the joint (20) described above is formed, thereby preventing the resin of the joint (20) from spreading and maintaining the shape of the joint (20), and providing sufficient bonding strength to the joint (20) to prevent separation and damage of the optical fiber (10) when the optical fiber ribbon (100) is rolled in the width direction.
- the joint (20) may have an elongation of the cured or sintered resin in the range of 80% to 220% so that the joint (20) can be clearly and cleanly separated when the joined optical fiber (10) is separated while ensuring flexibility for widthwise rolling of the optical fiber ribbon (100).
- the tensile strength of the joints (20) may be 7 MPa to 21 MPa.
- the elastic cross modulus (Secant Modulus) of the joint (20) may be 30 MPa to 90 MPa at 2.5% strain.
- the resin in order to form a plurality of joints (20) spaced apart along the length direction of the optical fiber ribbon, the resin must have appropriate flowability so that it can be applied accurately and quickly while preventing the curing or sintering dropping characteristic.
