Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method for producing a decomposition product of a polymer compound by contacting the polymer compound with a polyvalent cationic organic compound, a method for decomposing a polymer compound, and a decomposing agent for a polymer compound.
  • Polymer compounds such as polyester, polyamide, and polyurethane are widely used in all industries in the form of fibers, films, and molded articles due to their excellent chemical and mechanical stability.
  • the disposal of waste from various forms of polymer compounds that are generated along with the increase in production and usage is becoming a major challenge that civilization, which aims for a sustainable society, must solve.
  • the reality is that most of the waste from polymer compounds is still limited to energy recovery by combustion (thermal recycling).
  • Chemical recycling known as a type of recycling method for polymer compounds, is a recycling method that changes waste into other substances through a chemical reaction and uses those substances as raw materials to make new products.
  • various methods have been proposed to decompose (depolymerize) polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) to obtain a monomer from used PET and manufacture recycled PET.
