Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for producing an isocyanate composition that can improve transparency when applied to a product by suppressing discoloration and white turbidity.
- Isocyanates are used as raw materials for polyurethane, and are widely used in coatings, adhesives, paints, foams, and optical materials. In fields where excellent appearance properties are required, especially in optical fields where transparency is required, polyurethanes that are used require less discoloration. To this end, it is important that not only does the polyurethane reaction not discolor, but also the raw material isocyanate, especially the polyfunctional isocyanate itself, does not discolor.
- isocyanates are highly reactive, they are easily oxidized by oxygen in the air during the storage process, or they form self-polymers and deteriorate or discolor, and optical products such as urethane lenses to which they are applied also show discoloration or clouding.
- polyisocyanates when manufacturing polyisocyanates by polymerization of diisocyanates, specifically polyurethanes by urethaneization reaction of diisocyanates and polyhydric alcohols, the polymers are easily discolored by the catalyst or solvent used in the polymerization reaction.

- Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. Hei 8-291129 discloses a method for producing an isocyanate with reduced discoloration by bringing a discolored isocyanate into contact with an ozone-containing gas.
- Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2012-506465 discloses a method for producing an isocyanate with reduced discoloration by irradiating a discolored isocyanate with light having a wavelength of 200 to 600 nm.
- the present invention provides a method for producing an isocyanate composition which effectively reduces self-polymers and by-products generated due to the high reactivity of isocyanate compounds during a long-term storage process.
- a method for producing an isocyanate composition comprising the steps of: reacting an amine compound with phosgene in a solvent to obtain an isocyanate mixture; performing a first purification by thin-film distillation of the mixture and adding phenol and paratoluenesulfonyl isocyanate; and performing a second purification by thin-film distillation or reduced-pressure distillation of the first-purified mixture.

- a polyisocyanate composition which comprises an isocyanate composition manufactured according to the above-described manufacturing method and a polyisocyanate formed by a polymerization reaction of a polyvalent thiol.
- an optical article comprising the above-described polyisocyanate composition is provided.
- the method for producing an isocyanate composition according to the present invention can effectively reduce self-polymerization and by-products generated due to the high reactivity of an isocyanate compound during a long-term storage process through a secondary purification process using a specific additive.
- the isocyanate composition manufactured according to the present invention exhibits excellent transparency when applied to a product due to significantly reduced discoloration and clouding, and can exhibit excellent quality, particularly, when applied to an optical lens.
- Isocyanate compounds have high reactivity and are easily oxidized by oxygen in the air during the storage process, or are easily deteriorated or discolored by forming self-polymers (dimers, trimers, oligomers, etc.), and there is a problem that by-products are generated by reactions with other components in the composition, resulting in a decrease in the transparency of optical articles to which they are applied.
- the inventors of the present invention have conducted various studies on the manufacturing process and storage process of the isocyanate composition, and confirmed that even when manufacturing lenses with the isocyanate composition in which yellowing occurred, some products did not have defects.
- the transparency of the product was affected by the whitening phenomenon, and also, it was found that the self-polymerization and by-product generation of the isocyanate were affected depending on the change in the acidity of the composition during the purification process.
- the acidity of the composition is controlled to an appropriate range during a long-term storage process, effectively reducing the production of self-polymers and by-products due to the high reactivity of isocyanate compounds, and accordingly, yellowing and whitening are controlled to an appropriate range, thereby improving the transparency of the final product.
- the present invention has been completed.
- reaction speed in the mixing stage prior to thermal polymerization of the lens polymerization solution can be reduced even during lens casting, thereby improving the thermal control efficiency of the polymerization solution and effectively reducing the filter time.
- a method for producing an isocyanate composition comprises the steps of: reacting an amine compound with phosgene in a solvent to obtain an isocyanate mixture; performing a first purification by thin-film distillation of the mixture and adding phenol and paratoluenesulfonyl isocyanate; and performing a second purification by thin-film distillation or reduced-pressure distillation of the first-purified mixture.

- the oligomer of the above isocyanate compound may be generated by a side reaction during the synthesis of the isocyanate compound from the amine compound, or may be a by-product in which the isocyanate compound, after the synthesis is complete, forms its own polymer with high reactivity.
- the above-mentioned by-products may cause discoloration and cloudiness of the polyisocyanate composition in which the isocyanate composition is used as well as the transparency and color of the isocyanate composition itself. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the content of the above-mentioned by-products in the case of isocyanate compositions used in the optical field. However, it is difficult to extremely control the content of by-products in a commercial process in terms of process efficiency and cost. Therefore, in the present invention, the self-polymer and by-products generated due to the high reactivity of the isocyanate compound during a long-term storage process can be effectively reduced through a secondary purification process using a specific additive.
