Definitions
- the present invention relates to a foam extinguishing agent concentrate that does not contain a fluorine-based surfactant.
- JP-A-4-187163 discloses a foam extinguishing agent composition that contains a fluorine-containing surfactant capable of forming liquid crystals, a hydrocarbon surfactant, and a perfluoroalkyl group and a hydrophilic group-containing fluorine-based copolymer oligomer in an aqueous film-forming synthetic interface foam extinguishing agent.
- the fire extinguishing agent composition shown in JP 4-187163 A contains a fluorine-containing surfactant, but because fluorine itself can have a negative impact on the environment, there is a need to refrain from using it as a raw material for foam fire extinguishing agent concentrates.
- the present invention provides a foam extinguishing agent concentrate that does not contain fluorosurfactants and has high fire extinguishing performance.
- the foam extinguishing agent concentrate according to the present invention comprises: The composition contains 14% by mass or more of an anionic surfactant, 0.2% by mass or more of an amphoteric surfactant, 1.0% by mass or more of a nonionic surfactant having an HLB of 15 or more, and a solvent, The composition may not contain a fluorosurfactant.
- the nonionic surfactant may include polyoxyethylene lauryl ether, polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, polyoxyethylene oleyl ether, polyoxyethylene stearyl ether or polyoxyethylene (7-65) undecyl ether.
- the HLB of the nonionic surfactant may be 18 or more.

- Embodiment The foam extinguishing agent concentrate of this embodiment contains 14% by mass or more of anionic surfactant, 0.2% by mass or more of amphoteric surfactant, 1.0% by mass or more of nonionic surfactant having an HLB of 15 or more, and a solvent.
- the foam extinguishing agent concentrate of this embodiment may not contain a fluorine-based surfactant.
- the foam extinguishing agent concentrate of this embodiment may not contain fluorine or a compound containing fluorine as an element (fluorine-containing compound). Since fluorine may have a negative effect on the environment, if the foam extinguishing agent concentrate does not contain a fluorine-based surfactant, it is advantageous in that it can be an environmentally friendly foam extinguishing agent concentrate. When environmental consideration is important, it is very advantageous for the foam extinguishing agent concentrate not to contain PFAS.
- not containing fluorine-containing compounds including fluorine and fluorine-based surfactant means that they are not contained as compounds that are intentionally added, and does not exclude the inclusion of fluorine or fluorine-containing compounds in an unavoidable amount.
- Seawater also contains fluorine, but the reason for not including fluorine is to be environmentally friendly, so the amount of fluorine contained in seawater does not pose a problem.
- anionic surfactants include compounds having any hydrophilic group, such as a carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid, sulfate ester, or phosphate ester, and any hydrophobic group, such as an aliphatic or aromatic group.
- the content of the anionic surfactant is preferably 14% by mass or more, more preferably 16% by mass or more, and even more preferably 22% by mass or more.

- the content of the amphoteric surfactant is preferably 0.2% by mass or more, since it improves fire extinguishing properties, more preferably 1.0% by mass or more, and even more preferably 1.8% by mass or more. In view of the deterioration of the solubility of the surfactant in a diluted solution and foaming properties, the upper limit of the content of the amphoteric surfactant is preferably 10% by mass.

- Solvents that may be used include, for example, alkyl betaine surfactants, isopropyl alcohol, methanol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, butoxyethanol, ethyl cellosolve, butyl carbitol, ethylene glycol, and ethanol.
- the foam extinguishing agent concentrate may contain water as a solvent, but from the standpoint of the antifreeze properties of the foam extinguishing agent and the solubility of higher alcohols, it is preferable that the water content be 60 mass% or less.
- the foam extinguishing agent concentrate may contain higher alcohols such as myristyl alcohol and lauryl alcohol, thickeners such as triethanolamine, polyvinylpyrrolidone and xanthan gum, and urea to improve foam retention.

After that, foam was sprayed from all directions with a hand sprayer, and the time it took to extinguish the fire was measured.
- triethanolamine lauryl sulfate was used as an anionic surfactant in the foam extinguishing agent concentrate, and lauryl dimethylamine oxide was used as an amphoteric surfactant.
- butyl carbitol was used as a solvent. This butyl carbitol also functions as a foam enhancer. Myristyl alcohol was used to improve foam retention, and triethanolamine was used as a neutralizing agent.
- the foaming ratio and 25% reduction time were measured while changing the content and components of nonionic surfactants with an HLB of 15 or more.
- Examples 1 to 15 and Comparative Examples 1 to 4 5 parts, 10 parts, and 20 parts of nonionic surfactant are shown, but in terms of mass %, when 5 parts of nonionic surfactant is contained, the nonionic surfactant is contained at 4.8 mass %, when 10 parts of nonionic surfactant is contained, the nonionic surfactant is contained at 9.1 mass %, and when 20 parts of nonionic surfactant is contained, the nonionic surfactant is contained at 16.7 mass %.

- Examples 1 to 3 show the results of using polyoxyethylene (12) lauryl ether (HLB: 15.3) and changing its content
- Examples 4 to 6 show the results of using polyoxyethylene (30) oleyl ether (HLB: 16.2) and changing its content.
- Comparative Example 1 is an embodiment in which a nonionic surfactant is not contained. Compared with Comparative Example 1 and Comparative Examples 2 to 4 described below, Examples 1 to 6 were confirmed to have a higher foaming ratio and a longer 25% reduction time, and thus high fire extinguishing properties. Note that Figures 1 to 6 are graphs showing the results of Examples 1 to 24 and Comparative Examples 1 to 4, so please refer to these as well.
- Example 16 The nonionic surfactants in Examples 16 to 18 were calculated in mass % as follows: In the case of Example 16 (total 105 parts): 3.3% by weight In the case of Example 17 (total 110 parts): 6.4% by mass In the case of Example 18 (total 120 parts): 11.7% by mass

- the fire extinguishing time when 5 parts (4.8% by mass) of nonionic surfactant was added was shown below. It was confirmed that the higher the HLB, the shorter the fire extinguishing time was, and in particular, when the HLB was 18 or more, the fire extinguishing time was significantly shortened. In addition, a photograph of the foam after extinguishing is shown in Figure 7, and it was also confirmed that the higher the HLB, the better the sealing property after extinguishing.
- the extinguishing time when the content of the nonionic surfactant having an HLB of 18.5 was changed was as follows.
- the nonionic surfactant was contained in an amount of 2 parts (Example 25)
