Abstract
Description
この実施形態の有機EL表示装置1は、スマートフォンと呼ばれる多機能電話機やタブレット端末などのモバイル機器に使用される。有機EL表示装置1は、パーソナルコンピュータ(PC)、テレビジョン装置など、その他の各種機器に使用されてもよい。
図1および図2に示すように、有機EL表示装置1は、カメラ3と組み合わせられ、カメラ3により画面の正面側を撮影可能なインカメラ付きの表示装置を構成する。有機EL表示装置1は、表示領域DAと、額縁領域FAとを有する。
基板層10は、有機EL表示装置1のベースをなす層である。基板層10は、基板の一例である。基板層10は、光透過性(本例では可視光の透過性を意味する;以下同じ)および可撓性を併せ持つ。基板層10は、ポリイミド樹脂、ポリアミド樹脂、エポキシ樹脂などの有機樹脂材料によって形成される。基板層10の背面には、光透過性を有する保護フィルム11(後に参照する図4、図8、図9、図21、図24では不図示)が貼り付けられる。
TFT層20は、基板層10上に設けられる。TFT層20は、上述した駆動回路DCを含む。TFT層20はさらに、各種の配線40を含む。
発光素子層60は、TFT層20上に設けられる。図4に示すように、発光素子層60は、複数の有機EL素子(有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子)70と、エッジカバー75とを含む。有機EL素子70は、発光素子の一例である。有機EL素子70は、トップエミッション型に構成される。有機EL素子70では、有機EL層62で発した光が封止膜80側から取り出される。
封止膜80は、発光素子層60上に設けられる。図4に示すように、封止膜80は、複数の有機EL素子70を覆い、各有機EL素子70(特に有機EL層62)を水分や酸素などから保護する。封止膜80は、表示領域DAの全体に設けられ、額縁領域FAにまで広がる。封止膜80は、例えばTFE(Thin Film Encapsulation)構造を有する。封止膜80は、第1無機膜81と、有機膜82と、第2無機膜83とを有する。第1無機膜81、有機膜82および第2無機膜83は、この順で発光素子層60上に設けられる。
各サブ画素SPに設けられた複数のTFT50およびキャパシタ51は、図5に示すような画素回路PCを構成する。画素回路PCは、各種の配線によって供給されるゲート信号、エミッション信号、ソース信号、ハイレベル電源電圧およびローレベル電源電圧に基づいて、有機EL素子70の発光を制御する。
図6に示すように、第2表示領域DA2においては、有機EL素子70および画素回路PCの配置関係が第1表示領域DA1と相違し、各種の配線の延び方が変則的(イレギュラー)である。図6には、第2表示領域DA2およびその周囲の第1表示領域DA1における有機EL素子70および画素回路PCの配置関係を概略的に例示する。
有機EL表示装置1では、各サブ画素SPにおいて、まず、対応する発光制御線40eが選択され、その発光制御線40eを介して非活性状態を示すエミッション信号が第3TFT50Cに入力される。そのことで、第3TFT50Cがオフ状態になって、有機EL素子70が非発光状態となる。
有機EL表示装置1を製造するには、まず、ガラス基板200の表面に有機樹脂材料を塗布してベーク処理を行うことにより、基板層10を形成する。次いで、基板層10上に、CVD(Chemical Vapor Deposition)法やスパッタリング、真空蒸着法といった公知の成膜法、スピンコート法やインクジェット法といった公知の塗布法、フォトリソグラフィなどの公知のパターニング技術を用いて、TFT層20、発光素子層60および封止膜80をこの順に形成する。
この実施形態1の有機EL表示装置1では、第2表示領域DA2に設けられた接続線40rが、光透過性を有する透明配線層TL1(上層接続線40rc)を含む。それによって、第2表示領域DA2でのカメラ3が受ける外光の透過率を高めることができる。また、第2表示領域DA2の画素電極61は、透明配線層TL1に重ねて設けられるが、その透明配線層TL1の外縁の一部を覆う。透明配線層TL1の外縁のうち画素電極61により覆われる部分では、個々の有機EL素子70に係るアライメントマージンとして、画素電極61とエッジカバー75の開口76との両パターン間のマージンM1を考慮すればよく、透明配線層TL1と画素電極61との両パターン間のマージンを確保しなくて済む。そのことで、第2表示領域DA2において、互いに隣り合う画素電極61の間に確保すべき距離を短くできる。これにより、有機EL表示装置1における表示画像を高精細化できる。
この実施形態2の有機EL表示装置1は、第1表示領域DA1における画素電極61とTFT50との接続構成が上記実施形態1と異なる。なお、本実施形態では、第1表示領域DA1における画素電極61とTFT50との接続構成が上記実施形態1と異なる他は、有機EL表示装置1について上記実施形態1と同様に構成される。
この実施形態2の有機EL表示装置1では、第1表示領域DA1に上層接続線40rcが設けられない。これによれば、第1表示領域DA1の各サブ画素SPの構造を、第2表示領域DA2を有しないタイプの有機EL表示装置と近い構造にできる。このことは、インカメラ付きの有機EL表示装置1における表示画像の高精細化に有利である。
この実施形態3の有機EL表示装置1は、第1表示領域DA1における画素電極61とTFT50との接続構成が上記実施形態1と異なる。なお、本実施形態では、第1表示領域DA1における画素電極61とTFT50との接続構成が上記実施形態1と異なる他は、有機EL表示装置1について上記実施形態1と同様に構成される。
この実施形態3の有機EL表示装置1では、第1表示領域DA1に上層接続線40rc、さらには第2平坦化膜56および中間接続線40rbが設けられない。これによれば、第1表示領域の各サブ画素の構造を、第2表示領域DA2を有しないタイプの有機EL表示装置と同じ構造にできる。このことは、インカメラ付きの有機EL表示装置1における表示画像の高精細化に有利である。
上記実施形態1では、第1表示領域DA1の各画素電極61が、透明導電層TL2の全体に被さり、透明導電層TL2の外縁を全周に亘って覆うとしたが、これに限らない。第1表示領域DA1の各画素電極61は、透明導電層TL2の外縁の一部のみを覆ってもよい。

前記薄膜トランジスタ層には複数の薄膜トランジスタが、前記発光素子層には複数の発光素子が、表示領域をなす複数のサブ画素に対応してそれぞれ設けられ、
平面視で前記表示領域に重なる位置において、前記基板の背面側に光を利用する電子部品が配置される表示装置であって、
前記表示領域は、第1表示領域と、該第1表示領域の内側に設けられ、前記電子部品に利用される光を透過する第2表示領域と、を有し、
前記第2表示領域には、前記薄膜トランジスタと前記発光素子とを電気的に接続する接続線が設けられ、
前記接続線は、光透過性を有する透明配線層を含み、
前記第2表示領域の前記発光素子を構成する画素電極は、前記透明配線層に重ねて設けられる第1領域と、前記透明配線層と同一層上に形成される第2領域と、を有する、表示装置。 - 基板と、
前記基板上に設けられた薄膜トランジスタ層と、
前記薄膜トランジスタ層上に設けられた発光素子層と、を備え、
前記薄膜トランジスタ層には複数の薄膜トランジスタが、前記発光素子層には複数の発光素子が、表示領域をなす複数のサブ画素に対応してそれぞれ設けられ、
平面視で前記表示領域に重なる位置において、前記基板の背面側に光を利用する電子部品が配置される表示装置であって、
前記表示領域は、第1表示領域と、該第1表示領域の内側に設けられ、前記電子部品に利用される光を透過する第2表示領域と、を有し、
前記第2表示領域には、前記薄膜トランジスタと前記発光素子とを電気的に接続する接続線が設けられ、
前記接続線は、光透過性を有する透明配線層を含み、
前記第1表示領域の前記発光素子を構成する画素電極は、前記透明配線層と同一材料により同一層に形成された透明導電層に重ねて設けられる第1領域と、前記透明導電層と同一層上に形成される第2領域と、を有する、表示装置。 - 請求項2に記載の表示装置において、
前記第1表示領域の前記画素電極は、前記透明導電層の外縁を全周に亘って覆う、表示装置。 - 請求項1~3のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置において、
前記発光素子層は、前記画素電極の外縁を覆うように設けられたエッジカバーを含み、
前記エッジカバーにおける前記画素電極を部分的に露出させる開口の周縁は、平面視で前記画素電極の外縁に囲まれる、表示装置。 - 請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置において、
前記透明配線層は、結晶化された透明導電材料により形成され、
前記透明導電材料は、結晶化される前は所定のエッチング液により腐食される一方、結晶化された後は前記エッチング液により腐食され難くなる性質を有する、表示装置。 - 請求項5に記載の表示装置において、
前記透明導電材料は、インジウムスズ酸化物である、表示装置。 - 請求項5または6に記載の表示装置において、
前記画素電極は、光透過性を有する第1透明電極層と、光反射性を有する反射電極層と、光透過性を有する第2透明電極層とが順に積層された導電性積層体により構成され、
前記第1透明電極層、前記反射電極層および前記第2透明電極層はいずれも、前記エッチング液によりエッチングされる性質を有する導電材料により形成される、表示装置。 - 請求項1~7のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置において、
前記接続線は、前記画素電極に電気的に接続される第1接続線と、該第1接続線と前記薄膜トランジスタとを電気的に接続する第2接続線と、を有し、
前記第1接続線は、前記透明配線層によって構成され、
前記第2接続線は、前記第1接続線とは異なる層に形成され、光透過性を有する、表示装置。 - 請求項1~8のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置において、
前記第2表示領域は、複数の前記発光素子が配置される発光素子領域を含み、
前記発光素子領域の周囲には、前記薄膜トランジスタを含み、当該発光素子領域に配置された前記発光素子の発光を制御する画素回路が設けられる、表示装置。 - 請求項9に記載の表示装置において、
前記発光素子領域には、2つ以上の前記発光素子を1セットとして、複数セットの前記発光素子が配置され、
前記画素回路は、前記発光素子のセットごとに設けられ、当該セットをなす2つ以上の前記発光素子の発光を共通に制御する、表示装置。 - 請求項1~10のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置において、
前記電子部品は、カメラである、表示装置。 - 請求項1~11のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置において、
前記発光素子は、有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子である、表示装置。
