Definitions
- the present invention relates to a recording device, a control method and program for the recording device, and a system.
- IP broadcasting systems are becoming more common at broadcasting stations, news agencies, and other news sites, and IP streaming technology is being used to continuously transmit video data being captured by video processing devices such as digital still cameras and digital video cameras to the outside world via a network.
- additional information files that contain various metadata about the video data being captured
- news reporting with high speed and speed is being achieved more quickly and easily.
- metadata such as the video data format and recording length can be recorded in the additional information file along with the captured video data.
- communication can be performed between a mobile terminal and a digital video camera, and reporting information such as the interview title and location can be written to the additional information file at the reporting site.
- the additional information file is used, for example, as information to make it easier to search for desired video data within a video data server.
- the format and recording length of the video data can be known by viewing the various metadata of the video data.
- the metadata (additional information) recorded in the additional information file associated with the video data includes not only additional information set by the user, but also additional information updated when the recording of the video data starts and when the recording ends.
- additional information when recording video data (video data), metadata related to the video data is also created at the same time and stored in a recording medium in the recording and playback device.
- the recording and playback device receives video data from an external video processing device by IP streaming, there is a possibility that the metadata will be insufficient if the additional information file generated within the recording and playback device is simply associated with the received video data and stored, as in Patent Document 1.
- the recording and playback device cannot know information indicating that the video processing device performing IP streaming has recorded video data unless it is transmitted from the video processing device. As a result, such data will be insufficient when creating the metadata.
- the present invention has been developed in consideration of the above problems, and aims to provide a technology that, when recording video data received from an external imaging device as a video file, also records a completed metafile related to that video data.
- a recording device of the present invention has the following configuration.
- a recording device having a communication means, the recording device recording moving image data received from an imaging device via the communication means, an image file recording means for starting recording of the moving image data from the imaging device in response to receiving a recording start command via the communication means, and for recording a moving image file by ending recording of the moving image data upon receiving a recording end command via the communication means; and a metafile recording means for starting creation of a metafile related to the moving image data based on information regarding the creation of a metafile received when the recording start command is received via the communication means, and completing the metafile with metadata received when the recording end command is received.
- the present invention aims to provide a technology that, when recording video data received from an external imaging device as a video file, also records a completed metafile related to that video data.

- FIG. 5 is an operation flow diagram showing the basic operation of the digital video camera 100.
- the control unit 101 reads out a program stored in the ROM 108, expands it into the RAM 109, and executes the expanded program to control and perform calculation processing for each unit related to the operation flow diagram.
- the control unit 101 detects that the digital video camera 100 has been set to camera mode (shooting mode) by a user's operation on the operation unit 107, it starts the processing of FIG. 5.
- the digital video camera 100 is connected to the network recorder 200 at the time the flow of FIG. 5 is started, the digital camera 100 continues to continuously transmit video image data to the connected network recorder 200.
- the processing shown in FIG. 5 is merely an example, and the order is not limited.
- the control unit 101 detects a user operation on a menu button included in the operation unit 107, and causes the display unit 106 to display a menu 600 as shown in FIG. 6.
- the user can select an XML file for settings from the items in the menu 600 by operating a selection cursor 601 using the cross button included in the operation unit 107.
- the process proceeds to S501.
- the illustration shows that "Recording/Media Setup” was selected from the main menu, "Add XML file” was selected from the submenu that was displayed in response to that selection, and "XML file 2" was selected as the XML file from that submenu.
- control unit 101 reads the contents of the setting XML file selected in S500 from the recording medium 111 to the RAM 109 via the recording medium I/F 110. Then, the control unit 101 writes out to the RAM 109 only the information necessary for the XML file to be recorded in association with the video data as recording metadata in accordance with the structure of the XML file.
- control unit 101 determines whether or not a command to start recording video image data has been input from the user via the operation unit 107. If the control unit 101 determines that a command to start recording has been input, the process proceeds to S503. If the control unit 101 determines that a command to start recording has not been input, the process returns to S502 and waits for that input. In other words, the control unit 101 repeats the process of S502 until input of a command to start recording video is detected.
- control unit 101 In S503, in response to the recording start instruction input in S502, the control unit 101 writes (records) the video image data captured by the imaging unit 103 and obtained by various processes in the image processing unit 104 and image compression/expansion unit 102 onto the recording medium 111.
- control unit 101 reads the video data from the RAM 109 and transmits it to the network recorder 200 via the network I/F 105, and also transmits a recording start command. Note that upon receiving the recording start command, the network recorder 200 begins recording the received video data in the data storage unit 203 as a video file.
- the control unit 101 writes information acquired at the start of recording of the video data to the RAM 109 as recording start information metadata in response to the generation of the video data.
- the recording start information metadata also includes information indicating that the video data is being sent to the network recorder 200.
- the control unit 101 then writes an XML file to the RAM 109 using the recording start information metadata written to the RAM 109 in S505 and the recording metadata written to the RAM 109 in S501. That is, of the XML file in FIG. 3, the recording start information metadata is set to metadata 401 as shown in FIG. 13A, and the recording metadata is set to metadata 402, and the XML file is written to the RAM 109.
- the XML file may be generated by leaving each piece of information in the metadata 403 blank or set to 0, or an XML file that does not include the metadata 403 may be generated.
- control unit 101 reads the XML file generated in S505 from the RAM 109, associates it with the video data that began to be recorded on the recording medium 111 in S503, and writes it to the recording medium 111 via the recording medium I/F 110.
- control unit 101 determines whether or not an instruction to end recording of video data has been input from the user via the operation unit 107. If the control unit 101 determines that an instruction to end recording has been input, the process proceeds to S508. On the other hand, if the control unit 101 determines that an instruction to end recording has not been input, the process returns to S507, and recording of video data continues until an instruction to end recording is input.
- control unit 101 overwrites the recording start command written to the RAM 109 in S504 with the recording end command. Note that when the network recorder 200 connected to the digital video camera 100 receives this recording end command, it ends recording of the video data.
- control unit 101 writes the unsaved video data that was shot up until the input of the recording end instruction to the recording medium 111 as video data.
- the control unit 101 then writes or updates the header of the video data, completing the video data recording process.
- the control unit 101 writes information that can be obtained at the end of recording of the video data to the RAM 109 as recording end information metadata. Then, the control unit 101 reads the XML file recorded on the recording medium 111 in S506, adds the recording end information metadata to the XML file as metadata 403, and records the XML file on the recording medium 111. Since the XML file written to the recording medium 111 in S506 does not contain the information of the metadata 403 determined at the end of recording, the XML file does not contain information that should be recorded in the XML file.
- control unit 101 overwrites the XML file recorded on the recording medium 111 in S506 with an XML file in which the information of the metadata 403 is written in S510, and completes the recording of the XML file.
- the process of S510 may be performed at the timing when the recording end information metadata can be generated, without waiting for the completion of recording of the video data, that is, at the timing when the recording of the video data is completed and information on the recording time of the video data can be obtained.
- the recording of the XML file may finish before the recording of the video data is complete.
- the digital video camera 100 can store video image data and an XML file associated with that video image data on the recording medium 111.
- FIG. 7 is an operation flow diagram showing the basic operation of the network recorder 200.
- the control unit 201 reads out a program stored in the ROM 204, expands it in the RAM 205, and executes the expanded program, thereby controlling each unit and carrying out calculation processing related to the operation flow diagram. Note that the processing shown in FIG. 7 is merely an example, and the order is not limited.
- the control unit 201 determines whether or not moving image data has been received from the digital video camera 100 via the network I/F 202. If the control unit 201 determines that moving image data has been received, the process proceeds to S701. If the control unit 201 determines that moving image data has not been received, the process returns to S700. In other words, the control unit 201 repeats the process of S700 until moving image data is received.
- the control unit 201 determines whether or not a recording start command has been received from the digital video camera 100 via the network I/F 202. If the control unit 201 determines that a recording start command has been received, the process proceeds to S702. If the control unit 201 determines that a recording start command has not been received, the process returns to S701. In other words, the control unit 201 repeats the process of S701 until a recording start command is received.
- control unit 201 reads the video data received from the digital video camera 100 via the network I/F 202 from the RAM 109 and writes it to the data storage unit 203. Note that if video data is continuously being received from the digital video camera 100, the control unit 201 continues to read the received video data from the RAM 109 and writes it sequentially to the data storage unit 203.
- the control unit 201 reads from the RAM 109 the data received from the digital video camera 100 via the network I/F 202, and determines whether the data is an end recording command. If the control unit 201 determines that an end recording command has been received, it ends writing of the video data to the data storage unit 203, and ends the recording process as a video file. If the control unit 201 determines that an end recording command has not been received, it returns the process to S702. In other words, the control unit 201 repeats the processes of S702 and S703 until it receives an end recording command.
- the network recorder 200 can store the video data received from the digital video camera 100 in the data storage unit 203.
- FIG. 8A is an operation flow diagram showing characteristic operations of the digital video camera 100 in this embodiment.
- the control unit 101 reads out a program stored in the ROM 108, expands it into the RAM 109, and executes the expanded program, thereby controlling each unit and carrying out calculation processing related to the operation flow diagram.
- the control unit 101 starts the processing of FIG. 8A. Note that the processing shown in FIG. 8A is merely an example, and the order is not limited.
- S800a to S805a are the same as S500 to S505 in Figure 5, so their explanation will be omitted.
- the control unit 101 writes information that can be obtained at the start of recording of the video data to the RAM 109 as recording start information metadata.
- the recording start information metadata also includes information indicating that the video data was being recorded by the camera.
- the control unit 101 then transmits the recording start information metadata written to the RAM 109 in S806a and the recording metadata written to the RAM 109 in S801a to the network recorder 200 via the network I/F 105.
- a user operation interrupts the transmission of the recording start information metadata or the recording metadata, the user operation is given priority, and partial transmission may be performed, such as transmitting the continuation after processing the user operation.
- control unit 201 performs the same processes as steps S506 to S510 in FIG. 5, using the XML file for the digital video camera 100 created in step S805a.
- control unit 201 also performs a process of sending an end recording command to the network recorder 200.
- the control unit 101 writes information that can be obtained when recording of the video data ends to the RAM 109 as recording end information metadata. Then, in S813a, the control unit 101 transmits the recording end information metadata written in S812a to the network recorder 200 via the network I/F 105. Note that the processing of S812a is executed when recording stop information metadata can be generated, without waiting for the completion of recording of the video data, that is, when recording of the video data is completed and information on the recording time of the video data becomes available. Therefore, the recording end information metadata may be transmitted to the network recorder 200 before recording of the video data is completed.
- FIG. 8B is an operation flow diagram showing the characteristic operations of the network recorder 200 in this embodiment.
- the control unit 201 reads out a program stored in the ROM 204, expands it in the RAM 205, and executes the expanded program, thereby controlling each unit and carrying out calculation processing related to the operation flow diagram. Note that the processing shown in FIG. 9 is merely an example, and the order is not limited.
- S800b to S802b in FIG. 8B are the same as S700 to S702 in FIG. 7, so their explanation will be omitted.
- the control unit 201 reads from the RAM 109 the data received from the digital video camera 100 via the network I/F 202. The control unit 201 then determines whether the read data is the recording metadata and recording start information metadata transmitted in S806a. If the control unit 201 determines that the recording metadata and recording start information metadata have been received, it proceeds to S804b. If the control unit 201 determines that the recording metadata and recording start information metadata have not been received, it returns the process to S803b. In other words, the control unit 201 repeats the process of S803b until it receives the recording metadata and recording start information metadata.
- the control unit 201 In S804b, the control unit 201 generates an XML file using the recording metadata and recording start information metadata received in S803b, and writes it to the data storage unit 203. That is, of the XML file in FIG. 3, the recording start information metadata is treated as metadata 401 as shown in FIG. 13B, and the recording metadata is treated as metadata 402, and the XML file is written to the data storage unit 203. At this time, the XML file may be generated with each piece of information in metadata 403 left blank or set to 0, or an XML file that does not include metadata 403 may be generated.
- control unit 201 determines whether or not an end recording command has been received from the digital video camera 100 via the network I/F 202. If the control unit 201 determines that an end recording command has been received, it ends recording of the video data and proceeds to S806b. If the control unit 201 determines that an end recording command has not been received, it returns to S805b and waits for the command to be received.
- the control unit 201 reads from the RAM 109 the data received from the digital video camera 100 via the network I/F 202. The control unit 201 then determines whether or not the data is the recording end information metadata transmitted by the digital video camera 100 in S812a. If the control unit 201 determines that recording end information metadata has been received, it advances the process to S807b. If the control unit 201 determines that recording end information metadata has not been received, it returns the process to S806b. In other words, the control unit 201 repeats the process of S806b until recording end information metadata is received.
- control unit 201 reads the XML file written to data storage unit 203 in S804b. Control unit 201 then adds the recording stop information metadata received from digital video camera 100 in S806b as metadata 403 to the XML file, completes the XML file, and writes (overwrites) it to data storage unit 203. At this time, control unit 201 calculates the recording time of the video data from the reception time of the recording start command received in S801b and the reception time of the recording stop command received in S805b, adds this time information to the XML file, and writes it to data storage unit 203.
- the control unit 201 overwrites the XML file recorded in the data storage unit 203 in S804b with an XML file in which the information of the metadata 403 is described in S804b, and completes the recording of the XML file.
- the process of S804b may be executed when the recording stop information metadata is received, without waiting for the completion of recording of the video data. Therefore, the recording of the XML file may be completed before the recording of the video data is completed.
- the digital video camera 100 continuously transmits video data to the network recorder 200, and also transmits commands instructing the timing of recording the video data on the network recorder 200, and metadata required for creating an XML file.
- the digital video camera 100 also transmits metadata for use by the network recorder 200 when the recording of the video data ends. This enables the network recorder 200 to save the video data captured by the digital video camera 100 as a video file, and to generate an XML file from the metadata from the start to end of recording of the video data, and to save it in association with the video file.
- the setting XML file is set in advance in the digital video camera 100, but it may also be set in the network recorder 200.
- Fig. 9 is a diagram showing an example of a system configuration of the second embodiment.
