pHメータは、ガラス電極と比較電極との間の電位差によって水素イオン濃度を測定し、その値をもとに水酸化物イオン濃度を測定することができ、容易かつ迅速に測定することができるが、精度は高いものではなかった。

また、特許文献1に開示されるクロマトグラフにより水酸化物イオンを分離する方法では、測定精度は高いものの、分離カラムの作成が必須であって溶媒の種類やpH範囲によって分離カラムの選択が必要であり、また、分離カラムに割れなどが生じやすく扱いに注意が必要なこと、クロマトグラフが高価であること、簡便に測定することができないことなどが課題となっていた。
本発明では、このような現状に鑑み、水酸化物イオン濃度を高精度で容易かつ迅速に測定することができるとともに、比較的安価に測定することができる水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置及び測定方法を提供することを目的とする。
また、本発明では、上述するような水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置及び測定方法で用いることができる、水酸化物イオン濃度に応じて導電率の変化するデバイスを提供することを目的とする。
本発明は、上述するような従来技術における課題を解決するために発明されたものであって、本発明のデバイス並びにこれを備える水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置及びこれを用いた水酸化物イオン濃度の測定方法は、以下のように構成されたものを含む。
[1] 絶縁基板と、少なくとも一つの絶縁複合層と、イオン含有液を保持可能な貯液部と、を有するデバイスであって、
前記絶縁複合層は、一対の電極と、該一対の電極と接触する半導体層と、を有し、
前記絶縁複合層と前記貯液部との間に、OH-イオン導電率が1×10-5S/cm以上の層状複水酸化物層を備える、デバイス。

一般式が、[MII 1-xM'III x(OH)2]x+であって、MIIが、Ca2+、Mg2+、Mn2+、Fe2+、Co2+、Ni2+、Cu2+、Zn2+及び2Li+から成る群から選択され、MIIIが、Al3+、Mn3+、Fe3+、Co3+、Cr3+及びNi3+から成る群から選択される水酸化物、のうち少なくともいずれか一種を含む、[1]から[6]のいずれかに記載のデバイス。

本発明によれば、水酸化物イオン(OH-)濃度に応じて導電率の変化するデバイスを用いて、被験体である溶液中の水酸化物イオン濃度を高精度で容易かつ迅速に測定することができる。
以下、本発明の実施の形態(実施例)を図面に基づいて、より詳細に説明する。
なお、本発明の水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置及び測定方法では、被験体であるイオン含有液として、例えば、河川水、海水、浄水、洗浄水または工場排水などの水酸化物イオン濃度を測定することができ、例えば、これらの水質の常時監視などが可能となり、安全で安価な飲料水の普遍的かつ平等なアクセスにも貢献しうる。
なお、本発明の水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置及び測定方法では、被験体であるイオン含有液として、例えば、河川水、海水、浄水、洗浄水または工場排水などの水酸化物イオン濃度を測定することができ、例えば、これらの水質の常時監視などが可能となり、安全で安価な飲料水の普遍的かつ平等なアクセスにも貢献しうる。
図1は、本実施形態における水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置の構成を説明するための模式図である。
図1に示すように、本実施形態の水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置50は、絶縁基板12と、少なくとも一つの絶縁複合層14と、イオン含有液を保持可能な貯液部16とを有するデバイス10を備えている。なお、以下のように構成されるデバイス10は、例えば、電界効果トランジスタ(FET)や金属酸化膜半導体電界効果トランジスタ(MOSFET)などの半導体素子とすることもできる。
図1に示すように、本実施形態の水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置50は、絶縁基板12と、少なくとも一つの絶縁複合層14と、イオン含有液を保持可能な貯液部16とを有するデバイス10を備えている。なお、以下のように構成されるデバイス10は、例えば、電界効果トランジスタ(FET)や金属酸化膜半導体電界効果トランジスタ(MOSFET)などの半導体素子とすることもできる。
絶縁基板12は、例えば、ガラスやセラミックスなど絶縁性を有する材料からなる基板である。
絶縁複合層14は、一対の電極(第1電極141及び第2電極142)と、一対の電極141,142と接触する半導体層144を有する。
また、絶縁複合層14と貯液部16との間には、層状複水酸化物層18を備えている。層状複水酸化物層18は、貯液部16に保持されたイオン含有液Lと接触し、イオン含有液Lに含まれる水酸化物イオン(OH-)を伝導する。本実施形態における層状複水酸化物層18のOH-イオン伝導率は1×10-5S/cm以上であり、より好ましくは1×10-4S/cm以上、さらに好ましくは5.0×10-4S/cm以上、最も好ましくは1×10-3S/cm以上である。なお、層状複水酸化物層18のOH-イオン伝導率の上限値は特にないが、1.0×10S/cmが一般的である。
また、層状複水酸化物層18と半導体層144との間には、保護層20を備えており、層状複水酸化物層18と電極141,142は、例えば、貯液部16の仕切部16aにより電気的に絶縁されている。
また、層状複水酸化物層18としては、ピレンボロン酸、1-ピレン酪酸N-ヒドロキシスクシンイミドエステル、または、
層状複水酸化物層18の一般式が、[MII 1-xM'III x(OH)2]x+であって、MIIが、Ca2+、Mg2+、Mn2+、Fe2+、Co2+、Ni2+、Cu2+、Zn2+及び2Li+から成る群から選択され、MIIIが、Al3+、Mn3+、Fe3+、Co3+、Cr3+及びNi3+から成る群から選択される水酸化物、のうち少なくともいずれか一種を含むことが好ましい。
層状複水酸化物層18の一般式が、[MII 1-xM'III x(OH)2]x+であって、MIIが、Ca2+、Mg2+、Mn2+、Fe2+、Co2+、Ni2+、Cu2+、Zn2+及び2Li+から成る群から選択され、MIIIが、Al3+、Mn3+、Fe3+、Co3+、Cr3+及びNi3+から成る群から選択される水酸化物、のうち少なくともいずれか一種を含むことが好ましい。
また、半導体層144は、電界効果移動度が20cm2/Vs以上であることが好ましく、特に60cm2/Vs以上であることがさらに好ましい。
半導体層144は、酸素、硫黄、窒素、ホウ素又は炭素のうち少なくともいずれか一種を含むことができる。また、半導体層144は、インジウム、亜鉛、錫又は第13族元素のうち少なくともいずれか一種をさらに含むことが好ましい。
このような半導体層144としては、グラフェン、カーボンナノチューブ、窒化ホウ素、金属ジカルコゲナイド又はホスホレンのうち少なくともいずれか一種を含むことができる。
半導体層144としては、より具体的には、例えば、Ta-IZOなどのIZO(Indium-Zinc-Oxide)を用いることができる。

また、半導体層144の厚さとしては、薄いほど表層の導電率の変化が大きくなるため、後述するように移動する電荷の変化が大きくなり、測定精度が向上する。このような半導体層144の厚さは、0.5μm以下であることが好ましく、0.1μm以下であることがさらに好ましく、0.05μm以下であることが特に好ましい。なお、半導体層144の厚さの下限値の規定は特にないが、0.005μm以上が一般的である。
また、半導体層144の層状複水酸化物層18側の表面144aはなるべく平滑な方が好ましい。半導体層144の表面144aが平滑ではない場合、例えば、保護層20との間に隙間が生じたり、保護層20が不連続に形成されたりして、半導体層144と層状複水酸化物層18との密着性が低下してしまい、半導体層144の表面144aの一部にのみ電流が流れるようになってしまう。このため、測定精度が低下したり、動作が不安定になってしまう。
具体的には、半導体層144の表面144aの最大高さSzが0.05μm以下であることが好ましく、0.01μm以下であることがさらに好ましく、0.003μm以下であることが最も好ましい。この最大高さSzの下限値の規定は特にないが、0.0005μm以上が一般的である。また、半導体層144の層状複水酸化物層18側の表面144aの算術平均高さSaが0.03μm以下であることが好ましく、0.005μm以下であることがさらに好ましく、0.002μm以下であることが最も好ましい。この算術平均高さSaの下限値の規定は特にないが、0.0002μm以上が一般的である。
ここで、最大高さSz及び算術平均高さSaは、ISO25178で規定される面粗さのパラメータであり、このようなパラメータは、例えば、3D表面粗さ形状測定機(Zygo社製、NexView)などによって測定することができる。なお、この場合の測定条件は、下記に従って行うことが好ましい。
ISO25178に準拠して、対物レンズ50倍、ズームレンズ20倍、測定範囲89μm×87μmの条件にて測定する。得られた三次元表面形状から、範囲3μm×3μmの粗さ曲線を抽出し、3D表面粗さ形状測定機に付属する解析プログラム「Mx」により、下記の補正条件にて粗さ曲線の補正を行い、最大高さSz及び算術平均高さSaを算出する。

また、保護層20は、イオン含有液Lから半導体層144を保護するために設けるものである。保護層20を設けることによって、半導体層144が腐食されることなどを防止し、半導体層144の耐久性や信頼性を向上させることができる。保護層20の材質としては、絶縁性のあるものであれば公知のものを適用でき、耐腐食性のあるものが好ましい。例えば、Ta2O5、Si3N4、SiO2などであり、厚さは0.01μm以上0.5μm以下が好ましく、0.03μm以上0.2μm以下がより好ましい。
また、本実施形態では、絶縁複合層14が第3電極143をさらに備えている。このような構成として、第3電極143から電圧を印加することにより、第1電極141と第2電極142との間に流れる電流を上昇させ、測定精度を高めることが可能となる。また、一対の電極141,142及び半導体層144は、第3電極143との間には絶縁層145を備える。絶縁層145の材質としては、電気的に絶縁できるものであれば公知のものを適用でき、例えば、各種のセラミックスや樹脂などを使用でき、厚さは0.01μm以上0.5μm以下が好ましく、0.03μm以上0.2μm以下がより好ましい。
また、本実施形態の測定装置50は、第1電極141と第2電極142との間に電圧を印加するための可変電圧源32、第1電極141と第3電極143との間に電圧を印加するための可変電圧源34、第1電極141と第2電極142との間の電流値を測定するための電流計36、第1電極141と第3電極143との間の電圧値を測定するための電圧計38とを備えている。
このように構成された本実施形態のデバイス10では、貯液部16に保持されたイオン含有液LのOH-イオン濃度に応じて、半導体層144の電流の流れやすさが変化する。具体的には、層状複水酸化物層18を伝導するOH-の量が多くなるほど、半導体層144には電流が流れやすくなる。
このため、本実施形態の測定装置50では、貯液部16に被験体であるイオン含有液Lを貯留させた状態で、可変電圧源32によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間に所定の電圧、例えば、1V~10V程度の電圧を印加させるとともに、可変電圧源34によって第1電極141と第3電極143との間に印加させる電圧を徐々に大きくしていき、電流計36によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間に流れる電流が所定の電流値になった際の第1電極141と第3電極143との間の電圧値(VTH)を電圧計38によって測定する。
OH-イオン濃度が既知のイオン含有液Lについて、この電圧値VTHとの対応を検量線として作成しておくことにより、OH-イオン濃度が未知のイオン含有液Lである被験体のOH-イオン濃度を測定することができる。
また、本実施形態の測定装置50では、貯液部16に被験体であるイオン含有液Lを貯留させた状態で、可変電圧源32によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間に、所定の電圧、例えば、1V程度の電圧を印加させた状態で、電流計36によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間、すなわち半導体層144に流れる電流の電流値(IDS)を測定することもできる。
この電流値IDSと、OH-イオン濃度が既知のイオン含有液Lとの検量線を事前に作成しておくことにより、OH-イオン濃度が未知である被験体であるイオン含有液LのOH-イオン濃度を測定することができる。
図2は、別の実施形態における水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置の構成を説明するための模式図である。
図2に示す水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置50は、基本的には、図1に示す水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置50と同様な構成であり、同様な構成要素には、同じ符合を付して、その詳細な説明を省略する。

本実施形態の水酸化物イオン濃度の測定装置50では、デバイス10が第3電極143及び絶縁層145を備えていない。
このような構成の場合も、貯液部16に被験体であるイオン含有液Lを貯留させた状態で、可変電圧源32によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間に、上記電圧値VTHよりも小さい所定の電圧を印加させた状態で、電流計36によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間、すなわち半導体層144に流れる電流の電流値(IDS)を測定し、電流値IDSと、OH-イオン濃度が既知のイオン含有液Lとの検量線を用いて、OH-イオン濃度が未知である被験体であるイオン含有液LのOH-イオン濃度を測定することができる。
このような構成の場合も、貯液部16に被験体であるイオン含有液Lを貯留させた状態で、可変電圧源32によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間に、上記電圧値VTHよりも小さい所定の電圧を印加させた状態で、電流計36によって第1電極141と第2電極142との間、すなわち半導体層144に流れる電流の電流値(IDS)を測定し、電流値IDSと、OH-イオン濃度が既知のイオン含有液Lとの検量線を用いて、OH-イオン濃度が未知である被験体であるイオン含有液LのOH-イオン濃度を測定することができる。
以上、本発明の好ましい実施形態について説明したが、本発明はこれに限定されることはなく、本発明の目的を逸脱しない範囲で種々の変更が可能である。

- 絶縁基板と、少なくとも一つの絶縁複合層と、イオン含有液を保持可能な貯液部と、を有するデバイスであって、
