- rearing apparatus 100 comprises at least one open end 102, 104 defining a rearing composition access area and/or feeding surface 105 as shown in FIG. 2B.
- the access area 105 enable limiting the available food source to the prey population fed on by the BCA, therein ensuring that the food supply and/or rearing composition 110 is maintained for an extended period of time that in turn, leads to a longer lasting BCA population, as will be discussed in reference to FIG. 8-10.
- sheets 106a, 106b may be provided from optional materials for example including but not limited to the group consisting of: plastic, polymers, foil, laminates, semipermeable materials, gas permeable materials, water resistant materials, silicon, resin, lacquer, wood, composite materials, metal, hybrid materials, alloys, carbohydrates, starch, plant based materials, plant fibers, fibrous materials, mesh, the like or any combination thereof.
- a rearing apparatus 100 may be configured to receive at least one or more rearing composition 110, for example as shown in FIG. 4A-C. In some embodiments, rearing apparatus 100 may be configured to receive at least two or more different rearing composition 110a, 110b, for example a shown in FIG. 4A-4C, within a volume 108.
- FIG. 5E shows a similar configuration wherein a plurality of individual different sized rearing apparatuses 100 are utilized to form a single rearing apparatus 200 wherein each tube may be specific to a particular BCA or prey population.
- FIG. 7A comprises a rearing apparatus 100 comprising an elongated body 106 that spans both the internal volume of container 50 and extend externally to container 50.
- a body featuring an end 104e that may be adapted to be placed within the soil and/or ground of the cropping environment.

- the present invention provides the rearing apparatus as defined in any of the above, wherein the at least one access area has a width (diameter) of less than 10 mm.
- the present invention provides the rearing apparatus as defined in any of the above, wherein the length (L) is at least 40 mm.
- the size of the access points may be correlated to the (physical/physiological) characteristics of the prey, such as the physical size of the prey mite.
- the present invention provides the rearing apparatus as defined in any of the above, wherein at least 5% of the volume is filled with a prey population.
- the present invention provides the rearing apparatus as defined in any of the above, wherein the rearing apparatus is configured to allow the BCA to be released over a period of at least 6 weeks, preferably over a period of at least about 7 weeks. According to some aspects, the rearing apparatus is configured to allow said BCA to be released over a period of between 40 to 180 days, for example, about 50 to 150 days (e.g. at conditions of about 25 degrees and about 75% relative humidity).

Abstract
La présente invention divulgue un appareil pour l'élevage et la libération étendus d'agents de lutte biologique (BCA), comprenant : un corps ayant un axe long définissant une longueur (« L ») et un axe court définissant une largeur (« W »), définissant à l'intérieur de celui-ci un volume ouvert interne (« V ») configuré pour contenir une composition d'élevage, la composition d'élevage comprenant une source alimentaire pour des individus d'au moins une espèce d'acariens proies configurée pour être un hôte factice pour le BCA ; le corps présentant au moins une extrémité ouverte définissant au moins une zone d'accès à la composition d'élevage, la zone d'accès étant configurée pour limiter l'accès à l'espèce d'acariens proies à la composition d'élevage.
