- one battery cell 110 may come into contact with a plurality of irregularities on the upper and lower portions, respectively.
- heat dissipation performance of a plurality of side surfaces of the cell assembly 100 in particular, both of the upper and lower portions may be improved.
- a dual cooling method in which both upper and lower portions of the battery module are cooled may be used.
- the adoption possibility of the dual cooling method may be further increased.
- the cooling performance of the dual cooling method may be further improved.
- FIG. 6 is a schematic cross-sectional view of some configurations of a battery module according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 6 may be referred to as another modified embodiment of the configuration of FIG. 3 .
- irregularities may be formed on at least a portion of an outer surface of the module case 200 .
- the base plate 220 may have irregularities formed on both upper and lower surfaces.
- the module case 200 that is, the base plate 220
- a cooling configuration may be disposed outside the battery module.
- This cooling configuration may be a battery pack or a cooling pipe provided in a device to which the battery pack is mounted, such as an automobile.
- the heat of the cell assembly 100 can be more quickly and smoothly discharged to the cooling configuration (C) through the irregularities formed on both sides of the base plate 220, that is, the module case 200.
- a thermal interface material may be interposed between the outer surface of the base plate 220 and the cooling element C, as indicated by T in FIG. 6 .
- a heat transfer material may be filled in irregularities formed on the outer surface of the base plate 220 .
- the cooling efficiency of the base plate 220 may be further improved by increasing the contact area between the heat transfer material and the base plate 220 .
- irregularities in the module case 200 may not be formed uniformly as a whole, but may have different shapes in parts. This will be described in more detail with reference to FIG. 7 .
- FIG. 7 is a schematic cross-sectional view of some configurations of a battery module according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 7 may be regarded as another modified example of the configuration of FIG. 3 .
- the module case 200 may be configured to have a difference in surface area of irregularities from the inside to the outside.
- the central portion indicated by D2 is the inner portion
- the edge portions indicated by D1 and D3 are the outer portion.
- at least two of the portions indicated by D1, D2, and D3 may have different irregularities, particularly surface areas.
- the depth of the irregularities may be deepened or the distance between convex parts of the irregularities may be shortened.
- the surface area of the irregularities can be increased by increasing the amplitude of the wave or shortening the wavelength of the wave.
- the present invention it is possible to ensure more appropriate heat dissipation performance according to the difference in the concavo-convex shape of each part formed on the base plate 220, that is, the module case 200.
- the heat emission of the cell assembly 100 may vary depending on its location. Therefore, as in the above embodiment, when the uneven shape of the module case 200 is partially changed, it is possible to adaptively cope with the difference in discharge amount. Therefore, in this case, more efficient or uniform heat dissipation may be possible.
- the battery cell 110 may dissipate heat during charging and discharging, and there may be a difference in heat dissipation for each part.
- more heat may be generated and discharged at a portion where the electrode lead 111 is located.
- irregularities of an outer portion close to the electrode lead 111 may have a larger surface area than other portions.
- the outer portion i.e., the edge portion, may have deeper and more irregularities than the central portion indicated by D2.
- the central portion indicated by D2 it may be configured in a form with almost no irregularities and only convex portions.
- the heat absorption amount or heat absorption rate of the side surface where the electrode lead 111 is located in the module case 200 can be formed higher than that of other parts. Therefore, even if a relatively large amount of heat is discharged from the portion where the electrode lead 111 is located in the battery cell 110, the module case 200 also absorbs more heat, so that the temperature of the battery cell 110 as a whole is increased. can be made uniform.
- the amount of the thermal resin 300 in the central portion as indicated by D2 can be reduced. That is, in the case of the portion indicated by D2, since the concave portion is hardly formed and the convex portion is mainly formed widely, the gap between the battery cell 110 and the base plate 220 may be zero or reduced. Accordingly, the amount of the thermal resin 300 interposed between the base plate 220 and the battery cell 110 may be reduced in this portion.
- FIG. 8 is a schematic cross-sectional view of some configurations of a battery module according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 8 can be regarded as a modified example of the configuration of FIG. 5 .
- irregularities may be formed on each of the top plate 210 and the base plate 220 .
- the irregularities formed on the top plate 210 and the irregularities formed on the base plate 220 may have different shapes.
- the base plate 220 has irregularities uniformly formed in a horizontal direction (front-rear direction), which is the X-axis direction.
- the top plate 210 is unevenly formed in the horizontal direction.
- the concavo-convex surface area of the outer portion of the concavo-convex surface area formed on the top plate 210 may be larger than that of the inner portion, similar to the base plate 220 of FIG. 7 . That is, in FIG.
- the top plate 210 may have deeper irregularities at the edge portion than at the center portion. Also, the edge portion of the top plate 210 may have more irregularities relative to the same horizontal distance than the center portion. In particular, in the case of the above embodiment, it can be said that the top plate 210 and the base plate 220 are formed in an asymmetrical shape rather than being symmetrical in the vertical direction.
- a configuration that uniformly cools the entire battery cell 110 can be implemented more efficiently.
- irregularities may be uniformly formed on the base plate 220 to absorb and release heat from the cell assembly 100 .
- the temperature of the battery cell 110 may be partially non-uniform, and the top plate 210 may have a configuration for resolving such non-uniformity.
- the uneven area on the outer side of the top plate 210 is relatively can be made larger.
- the top plate 210 may absorb more heat at the electrode lead 111 side portion than at other portions. Accordingly, as a result of the summed cooling of the base plate 220 and the top plate 210 , the temperature of the entire battery cell 110 may be uniform.
- FIG. 9 is an exploded perspective view schematically illustrating some configurations of a battery module according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- the side plate 230 is not shown.
- irregularities are formed on both the base plate 220 and the top plate 210, and the directions of formation of the irregularities may be different from each other. That is, the top plate 210 may have irregularities in the direction of arrow F1, and the base plate 220 may have irregularities in the direction of arrow F2. Looking more specifically, the concavo-convex portion of the top plate 210 may be formed in a form in which convex portions and concave portions repeatedly intersect in the direction of the arrow F1. In addition, the irregularities of the base plate 220 may be formed in a form in which convex portions and concave portions repeatedly intersect in the direction of the arrow F2 . In particular, the uneven formation directions of the top plate 210 and the base plate 220 may be orthogonal to each other.
- the top side cooling form and the bottom side cooling form may be made different. In this case, it may be advantageous to ensure uniform cooling performance of the cell assembly 100 as a whole. Moreover, when the unevenness of the base plate 220 and the top plate 210 is filled with the thermal resin 300, in one battery cell 110, the amount of resin contacting the upper side and the amount of the resin contacting the lower side this may vary. Accordingly, in one battery cell 110 , a problem in which cooling performance of a specific part is degraded may be reduced.
- the concave part contacts the upper part of the corresponding part, so the amount of contact resin is small.
- the amount of contact resin is reduced on both the upper and lower sides in a predetermined portion of one battery cell 110 may be reduced. Therefore, in this case, overall uniform cooling performance can be secured for each battery cell 110 .
- a difference may occur between the upper heat dissipation form and the lower heat dissipation form of the cell assembly 100 .
- the concave portion having a large contact surface area may be formed long in the F2 direction in the top plate 210 , and the concave portion may be formed long in the F1 direction in the base plate 220 .
- more heat dissipation directions in the top plate 210 may be formed in the same direction as F2, and more heat dissipation directions in the base plate 220 may be formed in the F1 direction. Therefore, since a difference may occur in the form of heat dissipation at the top and bottom of the cell assembly 100, concentration of heat in a specific direction in the battery module may be reduced. Accordingly, cooling efficiency of the entire battery module may be improved.
- FIG. 10 and 11 are exploded perspective views and cross-sectional views schematically showing some configurations of a battery module according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 11 shows a cross-sectional configuration along the line A2-A2' with respect to the coupling configuration of FIG. 10 .
- the module case 200 may have fine protrusions.
- These fine protrusions (J) may be formed in a convexly protruding form in an inner direction from the inner surface of the module case 200 .
- the fine protrusions (J) may be provided in the portion where the irregularities (G) are formed in the module case 200 .
- a plurality of fine protrusions (J) may be provided on the inner surface, that is, the upper surface of the base plate 220.
- the fine protrusions J may be provided in multiple horizontal directions on the inner surface of the module case 200, that is, in the left-right direction (Y-axis direction) and in the front-back direction (X-axis direction). At this time, the fine protrusions (J) may have a significantly smaller size than the length of the module case (200).
- the fine protrusions J may be formed in a circular shape having a diameter and a height of approximately 1 mm to 50 mm or less.
- the contact area between the module case 200 and the cell assembly 100 can be further enlarged by the fine protrusions J together with the irregularities G. Accordingly, heat transfer efficiency and speed from the cell assembly 100 to the module case 200 are increased, and thus cooling performance of the battery module may be improved.
- the thermal resin 300 is interposed between the cell assembly 100 and the module case 200, when the fine protrusions J are applied, the thermal resin 300 is applied to the surface of the module case 200. A lot of downward movement along the inclined surface due to the unevenness (G) can be suppressed. Accordingly, the thermal resin 300 may be evenly positioned in the portion where the irregularities G are formed.
- the module case 200 may have concavo-convex portions G formed in such a manner that the convex portion G1 and the concave portion G2 are alternately positioned.
- the fine protrusions (J) may be provided in the concave portion (G2) of the irregularities (G) of the module case 200.
- the end of the fine protrusion (J) located in the concave portion (G2) may be configured to be located at a lower position than the convex portion (G1). That is, the fine protrusions J of the concave portion G2 may not be higher than the height of the convex portion G1.
- the minute protrusions J located in the concave portion G2 may not directly contact the battery cell 100 . Therefore, when the battery cell 110 is seated on the inner surface of the module case 200, for example, the upper surface of the base plate 220, the seating process is hindered by the fine protrusions J or the battery cell 100 is damaged. problems can be prevented.
- the fine projections (J) provided on one surface of the module case 200 may be partially configured to have different densities.
- the degree of density may be expressed as the number or height of fine protrusions (J) compared to the same surface area of the module case 200 .
- the plurality of fine protrusions J may have different densities in the stacking direction of the battery cells 110 .
- the number or shape of the plurality of fine protrusions J is distributed in the left-right direction. may change.
- the fine protrusions (J), on the basis of the stacking direction (Y-axis direction) of the battery cell 110, on at least a portion of the upper surface of the base plate 220, will be configured in a form in which the density increases toward the central portion.
- the plurality of fine protrusions (J) may be configured such that the density decreases toward the outside of the battery cell 110 in the stacking direction.
- the cooling performance of the battery cell 110 located in the central portion can be improved. Therefore, it is possible to prevent a problem in which the temperature of the battery cells 110 stacked in the center is relatively higher than that of the battery cells 110 stacked on the outside, thereby contributing to temperature uniformity of the entire cell assembly 100 .
- the base plate 220 has been mainly described with the fine protrusions J, but the top plate 210 may also have the fine protrusions J. Also, when the top plate 210 is provided with the fine protrusions J, the above description of the fine protrusions J provided on the base plate 220 may be applied in the same or similar manner. This will be described in more detail with reference to the implementation configuration of FIG. 12 .
- FIG. 12 is a schematic cross-sectional view of some configurations of a battery module according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- fine protrusions J may be formed on the top plate 210 as well as the base plate 220 .
- the fine protrusions J formed on the top plate 210 may have a different shape, size, or arrangement from the fine protrusions J formed on the base plate 220 .
- fine protrusions J may be formed in the concave portion G2
- the fine protrusions J may be formed in the convex portion G1 .
- the convex portion G1 of the top plate 210 may be a portion formed convexly toward the cell assembly 100, that is, in the downward direction, in the concavo-convex configuration of the lower surface of the top plate 210.
- the cell assembly 100 can be stored more stably inside the module case 200 .
- the cell assembly 100 can directly contact the upper surface, and the fine protrusions J are formed in the concave portion G2, so that the flat portion of the convex portion G1 is the cell assembly. It can be stably contacted with the lower part of (100).
- the space between the lower surface of the top plate 210 and the cell assembly 100 may have a somewhat spaced shape due to tolerance or the like.
- the fine protrusions J may be positioned close to or directly contact the upper portion of the cell assembly 100 . Accordingly, the storage state of the battery cells 110, particularly, the storage state in which the battery cells 110 are erected vertically and stacked in the left-right direction can be more stably maintained. In this case, heat transfer efficiency between the cell assembly 100 and the module case 200, particularly the top plate 210, may be increased.
