본 출원은 2021년 04월 30일자 한국 특허 출원 제10-2021-0056634호에 기초한 우선권의 이익을 주장하며, 해당 한국 특허 출원의 문헌에 개시된 모든 내용은 본 명세서의 일부로서 포함된다.
본 발명은 전지 팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스에 관한 것으로, 보다 구체적으로는 전지 모듈의 자가 발열을 방지하는 전지 팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스에 관한 것이다.
모바일 기기에 대한 기술 개발과 수요가 증가함에 따라 에너지원으로서 이차전지의 수요가 급격히 증가하고 있다. 특히, 이차전지는 휴대폰, 디지털 카메라, 노트북, 웨어러블 디바이스 등의 모바일 기기뿐만 아니라, 전기 자전거, 전기 자동차, 하이브리드 전기 자동차 등의 동력 장치에 대한 에너지원으로도 많은 관심을 가지고 있다.
소형 모바일 기기들에는 디바이스 1대당 하나 또는 두서너 개의 전지셀들이 사용됨에 반해, 자동차 등과 같이 중대형 디바이스들에는 고출력 대용량이 필요하다. 따라서, 다수의 전지셀을 전기적으로 연결한 중대형 전지 모듈이 사용된다.
중대형 전지 모듈은 가능하면 작은 크기와 중량으로 제조되는 것일 바람직하므로, 높은 집적도로 적층될 수 있고 용량 대비 중량이 작은 각형 전지, 파우치형 전지 등이 중대형 전지 모듈의 전지셀로서 주로 사용되고 있다.
그러나, 종래기술의 전지 팩은, 복수의 전지 모듈을 구비하고, 각각의 전지 모듈의 전지셀 중 일부가 열폭주가 발생되어, 발화 내지 폭발할 경우, 인접한 이차전지로 열 또는 화염이 전달되어 2차 폭발 등이 일어나는 경우가 있어, 2차 발화 내지 폭발을 방지하기 위한 노력이 가중되고 있다.
이에 따라, 전지 팩 내 일부 전지 모듈에서 발화 내지 폭발 시 인접한 전지 모듈에 열 전달이 되는 경우, 열 전달 경로 상에 있는 전지 모듈의 발열을 방지할 수 있는 전지 팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스를 개발할 필요가 있다.
본 발명의 해결하고자 하는 과제는, 전지 모듈의 자가 발열을 방지하는 전지 팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스에 관한 것이다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 과제가 상술한 과제로 제한되는 것은 아니며, 언급되지 아니한 과제들은 본 명세서 및 첨부된 도면으로부터 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 명확하게 이해될 수 있을 것이다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지 팩은, 복수의 전지 셀들이 장착되어 있는 전지 모듈; 및 상기 전지 모듈과 전기적으로 연결되어 있는 방전 부재를 포함하고, 상기 방전 부재는, 상부가 개방되어 있되, 냉각제가 수용되어 있는 프레임 부재, 상기 프레임 부재의 상부를 덮는 상부 커버, 및 상기 프레임 부재 내에 장착되어 있는 저항체를 포함하고, 상기 저항체의 양 단부는 상기 방전 부재의 외부로 노출되어, 상기 전지 모듈과 전기적으로 연결되어 있다.
상기 저항체는 상기 프레임 부재 내에서 적어도 2회 이상 절곡되어 있을 수 있다.
상기 저항체는 버스바 및 절연층을 포함하고, 상기 절연층은 상기 버스바의 외면에 형성되어 있을 수 있다.
상기 저항체의 중심부는 상기 버스바의 외면에 절연층이 형성되어 있고, 상기 저항체의 단부는 상기 버스바의 외면이 노출되어 있는 전원 연결부가 형성되어 있을 수 있다.
상기 버스바는 3mΩ 이상 내지 50mΩ 이하의 저항을 가지는 구리(Cu)로 이루어질 수 있다.

실시예들에 따르면, 본 발명의 전지 팩 및 이를 포함하는 디바이스는 전지 모듈과 전기적으로 연결되어 있는 방전 부재를 포함하여, 전지 모듈의 자가 발열을 방지할 수 있다.
본 발명의 효과가 상술한 효과들로 제한되는 것은 아니며, 언급되지 아니한 효과들은 본 명세서 및 첨부된 도면으로부터 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 명확히 이해될 수 있을 것이다.

이하, 첨부한 도면을 참고로 하여 본 발명의 여러 실시예들에 대하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 용이하게 실시할 수 있도록 상세히 설명한다. 본 발명은 여러 가지 상이한 형태로 구현될 수 있으며 여기에서 설명하는 실시예들에 한정되지 않는다.
본 발명을 명확하게 설명하기 위해서 설명과 관계없는 부분은 생략하였으며, 명세서 전체를 통하여 동일 또는 유사한 구성요소에 대해서는 동일한 참조 부호를 붙이도록 한다.
또한, 도면에서 나타난 각 구성의 크기 및 두께는 설명의 편의를 위해 임의로 나타내었으므로, 본 발명이 반드시 도시된 바에 한정되지 않는다. 도면에서 여러 층 및 영역을 명확하게 표현하기 위하여 두께를 확대하여 나타내었다. 그리고 도면에서, 설명의 편의를 위해, 일부 층 및 영역의 두께를 과장되게 나타내었다.

도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지 팩의 회로를 나타내는 개략도이다.
도 1을 참조하면, 본 실시예에 따른 전지 팩은, 복수의 전지 셀들이 장착되어 있는 전지 모듈(10); 및 전지 모듈(10)과 전기적으로 연결되어 있는 방전 부재(100)를 포함할 수 있다.
여기서, 전지 모듈(10)은 구체적으로 도시되지 않았으나, 복수의 전지셀(미도시됨)이 기설정된 방향을 따라 적층된 후 모듈 프레임(미도시됨)에 장착되어 구성되어 있을 수 있다. 여기서, 복수의 전지셀(미도시됨)은 그 종류에 특별한 제한이 없으므로 파우치형 이차 전지 또는 각형 이차 전지일 수 있다.
이에 따라, 본 실시예에서, 일부 전지 모듈에서 발화 또는 폭발 시, 인접한 전지 모듈(10) 내 전지셀(미도시됨)은 방전 부재(100)를 통해 방전되어, 전지 모듈(10)의 온도 상승을 억제할 수 있다.
이하에서는, 방전 부재(100)에 대해 보다 구체적으로 설명한다.
도 2는 도 1의 전지 팩에 포함된 방전 부재의 분해 사시도이다. 도 3은 도 2의 방전 부재의 사시도이다.
도 2 및 도 3을 참조하면, 본 발명의 일 실시예에서, 방전 부재(100)는, 상부가 개방되어 있되, 냉각제가 수용되어 있는 프레임 부재(150), 프레임 부재(150)의 상부를 덮는 상부 커버(170), 및 프레임 부재(150) 내에 장착되어 있는 저항체(110)를 포함하고, 저항체(110)의 양 단부는 방전 부재(100)의 외부로 노출되어, 전지 모듈(10)과 전기적으로 연결되어 있다.
여기서, 프레임 부재(150)와 상부 커버(170)는 서로 결합되어 있을 수 있다. 일 예로, 프레임 부재(150)와 상부 커버(170)는 서로 접하는 면이 용접 결합 등의 방식으로 서로 결합되어 있을 수 있다. 다만, 이에 한정되지 아니하고, 프레임 부재(150)와 상부 커버(170)가 서로 안정적으로 결합되어 고정될 수 있는 방식이라면, 본 실시예에 포함될 수 있다.
일 예로, 프레임 부재(150) 및 상부 커버(170)는 플라스틱 또는 금속과 같은 재질로 이루어질 수 있다. 이에 따라, 프레임 부재(150) 및 상부 커버(170)는 상술한 재질로 이루어져, 전지 팩 내 일부 전지 모듈(10)에서 발생된 발화 또는 화염으로부터 받는 영향을 최소화할 수 있다.
또한, 상부 커버(170)는 각각 제1 홀(171) 및 제2 홀(175)이 형성되어 있을 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 프레임 부재(150) 내에 장착되어 있는 저항체(110)의 양 단부는 각각 제1 홀(171) 및 제2 홀(175)을 통과하여 외부로 노출되어 있을 수 있다. 여기서, 제1 홀(171) 및 제2 홀(175)은 저항체(110)의 단면적과 동일하거나 이보다 큰 크기를 가질 수 있다.
일 예로, 제1 홀(171) 및 제2 홀(175)은 상부 커버(170)의 양 측에 각각 형성되어 있을 수 있다. 다만, 제1 홀(171) 및 제2 홀(175)의 위치가 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며, 다양한 위치에 제1 홀(171) 및 제2 홀(175)이 형성되어 있을 수 있다.
이에 따라, 방전 부재(100)에서, 저항체(110)의 양 단부는 제1 홀(171) 및 제2 홀(175)을 통해 각각 외부로 노출되어 있어, 방전 부재(100)는 전지 모듈(10)과 용이하게 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다.
또한, 상부 커버(170)는 개폐될 수 있는 제3 홀(179)이 형성되어 있을 수 있다. 여기서, 방전 부재(100)는 제3 홀(179)을 통해 프레임 부재(150) 내에 상기 냉각제가 주입될 수 있고, 방전 부재(100)는 저항체(110)가 발열되어 형성되는 수증기가 제3 홀(179)을 통해 배출될 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 방전 부재(100)는 제3 홀(179)을 통해 프레임 부재(150) 내에 냉각제를 주입한 후에, 제3 홀(179)이 밀폐되어 있을 수 있다. 일 예로, 상기 냉각제는 냉각수일 수 있다. 또한, 방전 부재(100)는 저항체(110)가 발열되는 경우, 제3 홀(179)이 개방되어 있을 수 있다.
다르게 말하면, 상부 커버(170)의 제3 홀(179)을 통해 냉각제가 주입된 이후, 평상 시에는 제3 홀(179)이 밀폐되어 있을 수 있다. 그러나, 프레임 부재(150) 내 저항체(110)에서 저항 발열이 발생되는 경우, 제3 홀(179)이 개방될 수 있고, 저항체(110)의 저항 발열에 의해 발생된 수증기가 방전 부재(100)의 외부로 배출될 수 있다.
일 예로, 제3 홀(179)은 상부 커버(170)의 중심부에 형성되어 있을 수 있다. 다르게 말하면, 제3 홀(179)은 제1 홀(171)과 제2 홀(175) 사이에 위치할 수 있다. 다만, 제3 홀(179)의 위치가 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며, 다양한 위치에 제 제3 홀(179)이 형성되어 있을 수 있다.
이에 따라, 방전 부재(100)에서, 제3 홀(179)은 경우에 따라 개폐될 수 있어, 방전 부재(100)의 밀봉성을 향상시킴과 동시에 안전성 또한 향상될 수 있는 이점이 있다.
도 4는 도 2의 방전 부재에 포함된 저항체를 나타내는 도면이다.
도 4를 참조하면, 저항체(110)는 버스바(111) 및 절연층(119)을 포함할 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 도 4(a)와 같이 일방향으로 연장되어 있는 버스바(111)의 외면에, 도 4(b)와 같이 절연층(119)이 형성되어 있을 수 있다.
여기서, 저항체(110)의 중심부는 버스바(111)의 외면에 절연층(119)이 형성되어 있고, 저항체(110)의 단부는 버스바(111)의 외면이 노출되어 있는 전원 연결부(113, 115)가 형성되어 있을 수 있다. 또한, 전원 연결부(113, 115)는 각각 전지 모듈과 전기적으로 연결되어 있을 수 있다.
이에 따라, 본 실시예에서, 저항체(110)의 외면에 형성된 절연층(119)으로 인해, 버스바(111)와 프레임 부재(150) 내 냉각제가 서로 직접 접하지 않아, 버스바(111)와 냉각제 사이의 쇼트 현상이 발생되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
일 예로, 절연층(119)는 일반 고무, 실리콘, 또는 테이프 등과 같은 소재로 이루어질 수 있다. 다만, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며, 프레임 부재(150) 내 냉각제와 저항체(110) 사이의 쇼트 현상을 방지할 수 있는 소재라면 본 실시예에 포함될 수 있다.
또한, 저항체(110)의 중심부는 프레임 부재(150) 내에 위치하되, 프레임 부재(150) 내에 수용되어 있는 냉각제에 침하되어 있을 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 저항체(110)는 전원 연결부(113, 115)를 제외한 나머지 부분이 프레임 부재(150) 내에 수용되어 있는 냉각제에 침하되어 있을 수 있다.
이에 따라, 저항체(110)의 중심부는 프레임 부재(150) 내 냉각제에 침하되어 있어, 저항체(110)에서 저항 발열에 의해 발생된 열이 상기 냉각제에 의해 냉각될 수 있다. 즉, 저항체(110)에서 저항 발열이 발생되더라도, 상기 냉각제에 의해 저항체(110)가 냉각되어, 저항체(110)의 통전 성능 및 전지 모듈(10)의 방전 성능이 향상될 수 있다.
도 3 및 도 4를 참조하면, 저항체(110)는 프레임 부재(150) 내에서 적어도 2회 이상 절곡되어 있을 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 저항체(110)는 프레임 부재(150)의 내부 크기와 대응되는 크기에 맞게, 복수 회 절곡되어 있을 수 있다. 여기서, 저항체(110)는 S자 형상으로 복수 회 절곡되어 있을 수 있다. 일 예로, 저항체(110)는 플렉서블 버스바(flexible busbar)일 수 있다.
이에 따라, 본 실시예에서, 방전 부재(100)는 단면적이 작은 저항체(110)를 포함하되, 상대적으로 긴 길이의 저항체(110)를 포함할 수 있어, 저항체(110)의 저항을 낮추면서도 컴팩트(compact)한 사이즈를 가질 수 있는 이점이 있다.
또한, 저항체(110)에 포함되는, 버스바(111)는 3mΩ 이상 내지 50mΩ 이하의 저항을 가지는 구리(Cu)로 이루어질 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 버스바(111)는 3.5mΩ 이상 내지 47.5mΩ 이하의 저항을 가지는 구리(Cu)로 이루어질 수 있다. 일 예로, 버스바(111)는 4mΩ 이상 내지 45mΩ 이하의 저항을 가지는 구리(Cu)로 이루어질 수 있다.
이에 따라, 저항체(110)는 상술한 범위의 저항을 가지는 구리로 이루어진 버스바(111)를 포함하여, 컴팩트(compact)한 사이즈를 유지하면서도 통전 성능 또한 충분히 확보할 수 있다.
이와 달리, 저항체(110)가 3mΩ 미만의 저항을 가지는 구리로 이루어진 버스바(111)를 포함하는 경우, 저항 값이 매우 작아 제조 공정이 용이하지 않다는 문제가 있다. 또한, 저항체(110)가 50mΩ 초과의 저항을 가지는 구리로 이루어진 버스바(111)를 포함하는 경우 방전 속도가 지나치게 느려질 수 있고, 저항체(110)의 크기가 상대적으로 커짐에 따라 방전 부재(100)의 공간 효율성이 저하되는 문제가 있다.
도 5는 도 2의 방전 부재의 연결 방식을 나타내는 도면이다.
도 5(a)를 참조하면, 방전 부재(100)는 제1 방전 부재 및 제2 방전 부재를 포함하고, 상기 제1 방전 부재 및 상기 제2 방전 부재는 서로 병렬로 연결되어 있을 수 있다.
이에 따라, 방전 부재(100)는 적어도 둘의 방전 부재를 병렬로 연결함에 따라, 각각의 방전 부재(100)에 포함된 저항체(110)의 저항보다 낮은 저항을 구현할 수 있다.
또한, 도 5(b)를 참조하면, 방전 부재(100)는 제1 방전 부재 및 제2 방전 부재를 포함하고, 상기 제1 방전 부재 및 상기 제2 방전 부재는 서로 직렬로 연결되어 있을 수 있다.
이에 따라, 방전 부재(100)는 적어도 둘의 방전 부재를 직렬로 연결함에 따라, 각각의 방전 부재(100)에 포함된 저항체(110)의 저항보다 높은 저항을 구현할 수 있다.
이상의 구성에 의해, 본 실시예에서, 방전 부재(100)는 전지 모듈(10)의 방전 정도에 따라 병렬 또는 직렬 방식으로 확장되어 있을 수 있어, 방전 부재(100)의 저항값의 구성이 다양하게 조절 가능하다는 이점이 있다.
도 6은 본 발명의 다른 일 실시예에 따른 방전 부재를 나타내는 도면이다.
도 2 및 도 6을 참조하면, 본 실시예에 따른 방전 부재(200)는 도 2의 방전 부재(100)와 동일하게 설명될 수 있고, 저항체(210)에 대해서만 추가적으로 설명하고자 한다. 여기서, 도 2의 저항체(110)는 제1 저항체(110)이고, 도 6의 저항체(210)는 제2 저항체(210)로 구분하여 설명한다.

이와 같이, 도 2 및 도 6을 참조하면, 저항체(110, 210)는 목표 저항값에 따라 저항체(110, 210)의 길이 및 이에 포함된 버스바의 단면적이 조절될 수 있다. 이 경우, 저항체(110, 210)는 프레임 부재(150)의 내부 크기에 대응되는 크기에 맞게 상대적으로 적거나 많은 횟수로 절곡되어 있을 수 있다.
보다 구체적으로, 제1 저항체(110)는 동일한 단면적의 버스바를 포함하되, 저항체(110)의 길이를 상대적으로 줄여, 제2 저항체(210)에 비해 상대적으로 작은 저항 값을 가질 수 있다. 이 때, 도 2와 도 6을 비교할 때, 제1 저항체(110)는 제2 저항체(210)에 비해 적은 횟수로 절곡되어 있다. 이에 따라, 제1 저항체(110)는 상대적으로 낮은 저항 값을 가져, 방전 속도가 상대적으로 빠를 수 있다.
또한, 제2 저항체(210)는 동일한 단면적의 버스바를 포함하되, 저항체(210)의 길이를 상대적으로 늘려, 제1 저항체(110)에 비해 상대적으로 큰 저항 값을 가질 수 있다. 이 때, 도 2와 도 6을 비교할 때, 제2 저항체(210)는 제1 저항체(110)에 비해 많은 횟수로 절곡되어 있다. 이에 따라, 제2 저항체(210)는 상대적으로 높은 저항 값을 가져, 방전 속도가 상대적으로 느릴 수 있다.
이에 따라, 본 실시예에서, 방전 부재(100)는 버스바(111)의 길이를 조절하여, 필요에 따라 저항체(110)의 저항의 크기를 조절할 수 있다. 즉, 방전 부재(100)는 저항체(110)의 저항의 크기를 비교적 용이하게 조절할 수 있어, 전지의 용량에 따른 방전 시간 및 다양한 환경에서 요구되는 방전 부재(100)의 방전 성능을 용이하게 조절할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 다른 일 실시 예에 따른 디바이스는 상술한 전지 팩을 포함할 수 있다. 이러한 디바이스에는, 전기 자전거, 전기 자동차, 하이브리드 자동차 등의 운송 수단에 적용될 수 있으나, 본 발명은 이에 제한되지 않고 전지 모듈 및 이를 포함하는 전지팩을 사용할 수 있는 다양한 디바이스에 적용 가능하며, 이 또한 본 발명의 권리 범위에 속한다.
이상에서 본 발명의 바람직한 실시 예에 대하여 상세하게 설명하였으나, 본 발명의 권리 범위는 이에 한정되는 것은 아니고 다음의 청구범위에서 정의하고 있는 본 발명의 기본 개념을 이용한 당업자의 여러 변형 및 개량 형태 또한 본 발명의 권리 범위에 속하는 것이다.

Claims (14)
- 복수의 전지 셀들이 장착되어 있는 전지 모듈; 및상기 전지 모듈과 전기적으로 연결되어 있는 방전 부재를 포함하고,상기 방전 부재는,상부가 개방되어 있되, 냉각제가 수용되어 있는 프레임 부재,상기 프레임 부재의 상부를 덮는 상부 커버, 및상기 프레임 부재 내에 장착되어 있는 저항체를 포함하고,상기 저항체의 양 단부는 상기 방전 부재의 외부로 노출되어, 상기 전지 모듈과 전기적으로 연결되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제1항에서,상기 저항체는 상기 프레임 부재 내에서 적어도 2회 이상 절곡되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제2항에서,상기 저항체는 버스바 및 절연층을 포함하고,상기 절연층은 상기 버스바의 외면에 형성되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제3항에서,상기 저항체의 중심부는 상기 버스바의 외면에 절연층이 형성되어 있고,상기 저항체의 단부는 상기 버스바의 외면이 노출되어 있는 전원 연결부가 형성되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제3항에서,상기 버스바는 3mΩ 이상 내지 50mΩ 이하의 저항을 가지는 구리(Cu)로 이루어지는 전지 팩.
- 제1항에서,상기 상부 커버는 각각 제1 홀 및 제2 홀이 형성되어 있고,상기 저항체의 양 단부는 각각 상기 제1 홀 및 상기 제2 홀을 통과하여 외부로 노출되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제6항에서,상기 제1 홀 및 상기 제2 홀은 상기 상부 커버의 양 측에 각각 형성되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제1항에서,상기 상부 커버는 개폐될 수 있는 제3 홀이 형성되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제8항에서,상기 방전 부재는 상기 제3 홀을 통해 상기 프레임 부재 내에 상기 냉각제가 주입되는 전지 팩.
- 제9항에서,상기 방전 부재는 상기 저항체가 발열되어 형성되는 수증기가 상기 제3 홀을 통해 배출되는 전지 팩.
- 제9항에서,상기 냉각제는 냉각수인 전지 팩.
- 제1항에서,상기 방전 부재는 제1 방전 부재 및 제2 방전 부재를 포함하고,상기 제1 방전 부재 및 상기 제2 방전 부재는 서로 병렬로 연결되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제1항에서,상기 방전 부재는 제1 방전 부재 및 제2 방전 부재를 포함하고,상기 제1 방전 부재 및 상기 제2 방전 부재는 서로 직렬로 연결되어 있는 전지 팩.
- 제1항의 전지 팩을 포함하는 디바이스.
