  • left and right wheels 31 and 32 can be included to project from the housing component 104 to provide for turning control.
  • the left and right wheels 31 and 32 can be selectively turned (left and right) to allow the RC vehicle 100 to turn as it is operated.
  • the RC vehicle 100 includes a total of three motors. All functions of the RC vehicle 100 are controlled by these three motors, with no servos (although servos can be used for turning or other functions as understood by those skilled in the art).
  • the first motor is housed within (or otherwise connected to) the first gear box 42 and located in the front convertible wheel 102. It controls the plurality of blades to open and close altogether.
  • the second motor 44 is also located in the front convertible wheel. The second motor 44 engages with a second gear box 43 and controls the rotational motion of the wheel, causing the RC vehicle 100 to forward and backward.
  • the third motor is located within a third gear box 49 housed within the housing component 104. This third motor controls the steering function to turn left and right via a linkage to turn the rear wheels (elements 31 and 32). Specific details with respect to expandable and retractable blades and the turning mechanism are provided further below.
  • the convertible wheel 102 is a powered drive wheel activated to drive the RC vehicle 100.
  • the convertible wheel 102 includes all of the necessary components as may be necessary to convert between the expanded contracted states and drive the RC vehicle 100 forward and reverse.

  • the convertible wheel 102 includes a remotely controllable first motor 300 (within the first gear box 42) that is operably connected with a first gear box 42 and its plurality of gears.
  • the first motor 300 and first gear box 42 are operably connected with the linkage components (e.g., right blade slot component 39 and left blade slot component 41) to cause the linkage components to rotate.
  • Each of the slot components 39 (and 41 with respect to the left side) is formed with angled slots 302 therethrough.
  • each of the blades (elements 8 through 13) are pivotally connected to the wheel covers 14 and 15. Projecting inward from each of the blades 8 through 13 is a small pin (depicted as element 800 in FIG. 8).
  • the pin resides within the slots 302 of the slot component 39.
  • the gears of the gear box 42 rotates the slot component 39, the pins are forced outward due to the angled shape of the slots 302.
  • Forcing the pins outward causes the blades 8 through 13 to rotate due to their pivotal connection with the wheel covers 14 and 15, thereby causing the pins to transition from the retracted to expanded states.
  • Reversing the rotation of the motor 300 causes the slot component to rotate in the alternate direction and draw the blades 8 through 13 back into the retracted state due to the pins being drawn back in through rotation of the angled slots 302.
  • the each of the slot components 39 and 41 are connected with one another to similarly rotate upon engagement of the first motor (and first gear box 42) to cause the blades to convert between the expanded and retracted states.
  • FIG. 4 provides a right-side, interior-view of the convertible wheel 102.
  • the blades 11, 12, and 13 are pivotally connected 400 with the wheel cover 15.
  • the slots 302 of the right blade slot component 39 through which the pins of the right blades 11, 12, and 13 reside.
  • FIG. 5 provides a left-side, interior-view of the convertible wheel 102 transitioning between a retracted state 500 and an expanded state 502. As shown, rotation of the right blade slot (not shown) and left blade slot components 41 causes the blades (elements 8 through 13) to transition between the retracted 500 and expanded 502 states.
  • the second motor 44 is connected with any suitable components to drive and rotate the convertible wheel 102 in the desired direction.
  • the second motor 44 is operably connected with the second gear box (element 43 in FIG. 8) to cause the second gear box to drive the vehicle.
  • the second gear box is engagingly connected (e.g., with teeth) with teeth on the interior of the wheel hub 7 or ring 40, or any other suitable component to cause the convertible wheel 102 to rotate in the desired direction.
  • reversing the direction of the second motor 44 reverses rotation direction of the convertible wheel 102 and the driving direction of the RC vehicle.
  • the RC vehicle is formed to include any suitable mechanism or device to allow a user to selectively turn the RC vehicle.
  • the third gear box 49 housing the third motor is operably connected with the left and right wheels 31 and 32 via a linkage.
  • the wheels 31 and 32 are pivotally connected with the housing component 102 such that movement of the linkage causes the wheels 31 and 32 to turn left and right as desired.
  • FIGs. 7A through 7C Another non-limiting example of such a linkage assembly is illustrated in FIGs. 7A through 7C.
  • a third motor and corresponding gears are used to slide the linkage assembly left and right, which in turn causes the left and right wheels 31 and 32 to turn left and right as desired.

  • a remote control (RC) controller 1000 is included that includes any components (e.g., integrated circuit, transmitter, battery, switches, etc.) as necessary to provide the relevant commands and operations to the RC vehicle.
  • the RC controller 1000 includes a throttle trigger 1002. When the throttle trigger 1002 is pulled in, the RC controller 1000 sends a forward signal to the RC vehicle to cause the second motor to engage and force the RC vehicle forward. Pushing out the throttle trigger 1002 reverses the motion of the second motor to cause the RC vehicle to reverse.
  • a rotatable and depressible steering wheel 1004 is also included.
  • Rotation of the steering wheel 1004 activates the third motor to cause the wheels on the RC vehicle to turn left or right, depending on which way the steering wheel 104 is rotated. Finally, depressing the steering wheel 1004 sends a signal to the first motor to cause the first motor to activate the mechanical linkage to turn the left and right blade slots. For example, when the player press the steering wheel 1004 on the RC controller 1000 to send the signal, the vehicle will receive the signal to turn the first motor to rotate clockwise to turn the left and right blade slots. Then, all six blades will be pushed out via that mechanical linkage to open all six blades together.
  • the RC vehicle will receive the signal to turn the motor to rotate counterclockwise to turn the left and right blade slots. Then, all the six blades will be pulled in via that mechanical linkage to close all six blades together.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un véhicule télécommandé (RC) comportant une roue convertible (par exemple, une roue avant) dotée d'une pluralité de lames.
