- Oil-sorbents refer to substances used to absorb and recover oil spilled into rivers and oceans.
- known sorbents include natural plant materials such as wood pulp, synthetic fibers such as polyethylene fibers, polypropylene fibers and polyester fibers, foamed resins such as polyurethane foams, and hydrophobic porous substrates such as hydrophobic fibers.
- the natural plant-based oil sorbent is environmentally friendly, it contains a hydrophilic group and thus requires a hydrophobization process for oil adsorption.
- the synthetic fiber-based oil absorbent material is manufactured in a mat form and is most widely used due to its excellent lipophilicity and hydrophobicity required for oil adsorption, but it is difficult to recover when it sinks into water after oil adsorption.
- the foamed resin-based oil sorbent is suitable for the recovery of large-capacity oil, but it takes a lot of time to adsorb oil due to poor lipophilicity.
- One aspect of the present invention includes a polyol, an isocyanate, a blowing agent, a catalyst, and an acetyl-lignin condensate, wherein the acetyl-lignin condensate is contained in an amount of 1 to 24% by weight based on the total weight, eco-friendly sorbent composition provides
- Another aspect of the present invention is an environmentally friendly sorbent in the form of an acetyl-lignin condensate bonded to a polyurethane foam prepared from the composition, wherein the acetyl-lignin condensate is included in an amount of 1 to 24 wt% based on the total weight to provide an eco-friendly sorbent material.

- Figure 2 shows the sorbent according to the content of kraft lignin and acetyl-lignin condensate.
- Figure 3 shows the SEM image of the sorbent according to the content of acetyl-lignin condensate.
- a composition for producing an eco-friendly sorbent according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a polyol, an isocyanate, a blowing agent, a catalyst, and an acetyl-lignin condensate:
- the acetyl-lignin condensate may be synthesized using kraft lignin obtained from waste from a papermaking process.
- lignin is a component of wood along with cellulose and hemicellulose, and is used as a renewable biopolymer that can be a raw material for aromatic chemicals.
- lignin can be obtained as a solid residue remaining after making cellulose the main product during the papermaking process.
- the kraft lignin can be obtained inexpensively as an unbleached state of the residue.
- the acetyl-lignin condensate can be obtained by reacting kraft lignin with acetic anhydride in the presence of pyridine as a catalyst to hydrophobize the hydroxyl group of kraft lignin, as shown in Scheme 1 below.
- the acetyl-lignin condensate exhibits hydrophobicity along with the lipophilicity of lignin itself, thereby improving the adsorption power of oil leaked into water.
- the hydrophobized acetyl-lignin condensate is mixed with the polyurethane-forming components and subjected to a reaction by stirring, the acetyl-lignin condensate is incorporated therein when the polyurethane foam is formed and the cells of the foam Oil adsorption can be promoted by widening the gap.
- the foamable oil absorbent which is suitable for the recovery of large-capacity oil, but takes a lot of time to adsorb oil due to its poor lipophilicity.
- the hydrophobized acetyl-lignin condensate may be included in an amount of 1 to 24% by weight based on the total weight of the composition.
- the content is less than 1% by weight, it is difficult to secure sufficient oil adsorption power, and when it exceeds 24% by weight, it may be excessively incorporated into the polyurethane foam to cause crack formation.
- composition of the present invention includes a polyol, an isocyanate, a blowing agent, and a catalyst to form a polyurethane foam for supporting by incorporating the hydrophobized acetyl-lignin condensate.
- polycarbonate diol having hydroxyl groups (-OH) at both ends polycaprolactone diol, polytetramethylene diether glycol, polyester diol, and the like may be used.
- polycaprolactone diol polytetramethylene diether glycol
- polyester diol polyester diol
- the isocyanate may be included in an amount of 30 to 65 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the polyol, and it is advantageous because strength can be secured when the above range is satisfied.
- the blowing agent is used to form and grow pores using the heat of reaction generated when polyol and isocyanate react to form polyurethane.
- Cyclopentane, chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), hydrochlorofluorocarbon (hydrochlorofluorocarbon, HCFC) and the like may be used.
- the foaming agent may be included in an amount of 5 to 20 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the polyol, and when the above range is satisfied, foam formation is advantageous.
- the catalyst is a component that affects the structure and physical properties of a polymer by controlling the rates of urethane group generation reaction, foaming reaction, crosslinking reaction, ring formation reaction, etc. in the process of forming polyurethane.
- a catalyst or an amine-based catalyst such as TEDA (triethylenediamine) may be used.
- the catalyst may be included in an amount of 0.5 to 3 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the polyol, and it is advantageous because it is possible to shorten the manufacturing time when the above range is satisfied.
- the present invention provides an environmentally friendly sorbent prepared from the composition as described above.
- an acetyl-lignin condensate is combined with a polyurethane foam in an amount of 1 to 24% by weight to prepare an eco-friendly sorbent.
- the stirring and curing may be performed in a conventional manner for preparing polyurethane.
- the eco-friendly oil sorbent of the present invention is used as a space in which microbubbles of polyurethane foam adsorb contaminated oil in water such as seawater, and hydrophobic/lipophilic acetyl-lignin condensate mixed in the microbubbles. It can adsorb oil.
- each cell formed by the microbubbles of the foam by the incorporation of the acetyl-lignin condensate has an open structure to each other, and this open structure makes oil adsorption more favorable.
- the oil sorbent of the present invention exhibits hydrophobicity with a contact angle in the range of 82° to 95° when dispersed in water, and has excellent oil adsorption power in the range of 4 to 12 (g/g).
- the oil adsorbent of the present invention can easily remove the adsorbed oil by pressing the foam after oil adsorption, and then the foam shape is restored and reused again.
- the oil adsorbent of the present invention may repeat the oil adsorption removal process up to at least 20 times.
- the oil adsorbent of the present invention is used as a direct oil control means in the event of a pollution accident due to oil spillage and can prevent ecosystem destruction by adsorbing oil within a short time, and does not sink below the water surface after oil adsorption. There is no risk of contamination, and since the foam can be reused through simple compression, environmental pollution can be minimized.
- a polyethylene film was laid on a box mold having a square shape of 100 mmX100 mm, the prepared composition was poured thereon, and curing was performed at room temperature to prepare a polyurethane foam to be used as an oil adsorbent.
- Example 2 The same process as in Example 1 was performed except that the acetyl-lignin condensate was not used.
- Example 2 The same procedure as in Example 1 was performed except that kraft lignin was used instead of the acetyl-lignin condensate.
- Example 2 The same procedure as in Example 1 was performed except for changing the content of the acetyl-lignin condensate.
- FIG. 1 The polyurethane foams prepared from the Examples and Comparative Examples are shown in FIG. 1 .
- FIG. 1 (a) is an sorbent of the general polyurethane foam prepared in Comparative Example 1, (b) is an sorbent prepared in Comparative Example 2 and kraft lignin is incorporated into the polyurethane foam, (c) shows the sorbent material prepared in Example 3 in which the acetyl-lignin condensate is incorporated into the polyurethane foam.
- Figure 2 shows the sorbent according to the content of kraft lignin and acetyl-lignin condensate. From FIG. 2, it can be seen that kraft lignin aggregates inside the foam due to strong hydrogen bonding between lignin particles, whereas acetyl-lignin condensate exhibits an improved dispersion state due to weak intramolecular hydrogen bonding.
- Figure 3 shows an SEM image of the sorbent according to the content of acetyl-lignin condensate. From FIG. 3, it can be seen that the microbubbles inside the foam form an open structure as the content of the acetyl-lignin condensate increases.
- cream time measuring the time taken from the time of obtaining the polyurethane composition to the start of swelling
- Oil adsorption power Take a test piece of 1cm*1cm in size and float it in a glass or stainless steel container with a size of 30cmx25cmx5cm for 5 minutes, then take it out and place it on a wire mesh for 5 minutes, then measure the increase in mass
- the polyurethane foam mixed with kraft lignin of Comparative Example 2 was not in a good foamed state because the hydroxyl group present at the terminal of the lignin molecule caused a chemical reaction with the isocyanate.
- Comparative Examples 3 and 4 as the acryl-lignin condensate was mixed in excess of 24% of the total weight of the foam, the contact angle and oil adsorption power were increased due to the increase in hydrophobicity, but cracks occurred inside after foaming and used as an oil adsorbent It was not suitable for
- FIGS. 4 and 5 show the measurement results of the contact angle and the oil adsorption force of the sorbent according to the content of the acetyl-lignin condensate, respectively. From FIGS. 4 and 5, it can be seen that the contact angle and oil adsorption power increase as the content of the acetyl-lignin condensate increases within a predetermined range.
