Definitions
- a so-called spawning box In order to protect self-bred aquarium fish from dying by eating, a so-called spawning box is known. This is hung in the actual aquarium tank and is divided into an upper and a lower area. A viviparous or egg-laying mother fish is placed in the upper area of the spawning box to protect the offspring against fish in the aquarium if it can be foreseen that it is about to spawn or give birth. Immediately after birth, the still immobile young animals or eggs fall through a fine-meshed grid into the lower area of the spawning box. This makes it impossible for the fish in the aquarium and the mother fish to eat the offspring.
- US Pat. No. 3,900,004 describes a spawning or birthing and rearing device corresponding to the preamble of claim 1.
- This device which can be attached to the wall of an aquarium, contains a spawning or birth container 14 and a rearing container 18 connected thereto.
- the spawning or birth container 12 has a cover 32 which is provided with air passages.
- the container 12 is provided with an intermediate floor of two downwardly converging V-shaped bottom surfaces 50, 52 bounded at the bottom by a longitudinal slot 48 which is sufficiently wide to prevent the mother fish and other adult fish from passing through.
- Below this intermediate floor is the container floor 26 which is provided with a central opening 28 .
- a water line 64 connects to this opening and runs through the bottom 68 of the rearing container 18 up to the level of slots 94 arranged in the container 18 .
- the slots 94 are of such a width that fish which are already fully grown cannot enter the rearing container 18 through them.
- a compressed air line 100 opens into the line 64 in such a way that when compressed air is supplied to the line 64 through the compressed air line 100 , water is sucked out of the spawning or birth container through the line and pumped into the rearing container 18 . With this suction flow, juvenile fish or spawning eggs passing through the bottom slot 48 are conveyed into the rearing container 18 through a vertical line 46 adjoining the line 64 and fall out of the upper end of the line 46 into the rearing container 18.
- the young fish are transferred to the aquarium after they have reached a certain size after about two to three weeks without running the risk of being eaten by the adult fish in the aquarium or the mother fish.
- the invention is based on the object of creating a device which is improved over the known devices.
- patent claim 1 serve to solve this problem.
- the device is preferably characterized by a floating body which is attached to the containers and supports the containers on the surface of the aquarium water filling.
- the spawning or birthing and rearing facility contains at least one spawning or birthing container 1 and one rearing container 2, as shown.
- the two containers 1 and 2 float by means of a float 20 on the surface a of the water filling of the aquarium (A).
- Container 1 and container 2 have air-permeable lids 3 and 13, respectively.
- the two containers 1 and 2 are communicating containers.
- the container 1 is connected at its lower end to a line 5, which is connected to a riser 6 guided through the container 2, the upper open end of which ends below the water level b of the container 1.
- water level regulating openings 8 impermeable to the mother animal are provided in the container 1.
- water inlet openings 7 are attached to a water pump (not shown).
- An intermediate floor 4 of the container 1 is provided with impermeable openings for the mother fish.
- the container 1 is provided with a bottom 4.1, which has an opening connected to the line 5.
- the container 2 into which the riser pipe 6 opens is provided with water level regulation openings 9 which are impermeable in the container 2 for larger or adult fish.
- Air injection openings 10 connected to an air pump (not shown) are arranged in the lower area of the container 2 .
- the bottom of the container 2 consists of grids 11 with grid openings that are impermeable to baby fish.
