Definitions
- the present invention relates to a catalyst carrier and an induction heating catalyst system.
- Automobile exhaust gas may contain harmful components such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides as a result of incomplete combustion. These harmful components are discharged in a large amount immediately after the engine is started, when the catalyst temperature is low and the catalytic activity is insufficient. Therefore, harmful components in the exhaust gas may be discharged without being purified by the catalyst before reaching the catalyst activation temperature. In order to meet such demands, it is necessary to reduce the emissions that are not purified by the catalyst before reaching the catalyst activation temperature as much as possible. For example, measures using the heating technology of the catalyst carrier are taken. Are known.
- a catalyst carrier provided with a magnetic material on the partition surface of the honeycomb structure or in a cell is placed in the exhaust gas flow path of an automobile, the outer periphery of the catalyst carrier is surrounded by a coil, and the magnetic material is formed by induced heating.
- An inductive heating catalyst system that purifies exhaust gas by heating and generating heat of a catalyst carrier is known.
- Patent Document 1 describes a catalyst carrier having a structure in which metal particles or metal pieces are provided in a plurality of cells of a ceramic substrate and the metal particles or metal pieces are heated by induction heating. ing.
- induction heating is to raise the catalyst temperature and improve the purification rate when the gas temperature near the gas flow direction inlet of the catalyst carrier is still low.
- the gas temperature and the carrier / catalyst temperature increase due to induction heating are not sufficient, and gradually increase toward the outlet.
- the technique described in Patent Document 1 even if the metal particles or metal fragments provided throughout the cell are heated by induction heating, the temperature in the vicinity of the inlet in the gas flow direction of the catalyst carrier is sufficiently increased. Therefore, it becomes difficult to activate the catalyst provided in the region.
- the catalyst provided near the inlet in the gas flow direction is insufficiently used effectively, and the demerit of the manufacturing cost is large especially when a precious metal such as Pt is used as the catalyst.
- the present invention is specified as follows.
- a columnar wall having an outer peripheral wall and a partition wall arranged inside the outer peripheral wall and partitioning a plurality of cells extending from an end face on the inlet side in the gas flow direction to an end face on the outlet side to form a flow path.

- a catalyst carrier for induction heating with A region A that does not carry the catalyst is provided at least on the end face side of the catalyst carrier on the inlet side in the gas flow direction.
- a catalyst carrier for induction heating in which the magnetic material is arranged at least in the region A in the gas flow direction.
- An induction heating catalyst system comprising the catalyst carrier for induction heating according to (1) and a coil provided on the outer periphery of the catalyst carrier.

- the columnar honeycomb structure 16 contains a silicon-silicon carbide composite as a main component because the columnar honeycomb structure 16 contains a silicon-silicon carbide composite (total mass) in an amount of 90% by mass or more of the entire columnar honeycomb structure 16. It means that it is contained.
- the silicon-silicon carbide composite material contains silicon carbide particles as an aggregate and silicon as a binder for binding the silicon carbide particles, and a plurality of silicon carbide particles are formed between the silicon carbide particles. It is preferably bonded by silicon so as to form pores.
- the fact that the columnar honeycomb structure 16 contains silicon carbide as a main component means that the columnar honeycomb structure 16 contains silicon carbide (total mass) in an amount of 90% by mass or more of the entire columnar honeycomb structure 16. means.
- the columnar honeycomb structure 16 is formed of at least one ceramic material selected from the group consisting of cordierite, silicon carbide, aluminum titanate, silicon nitride, mullite, and alumina.
- the cell shape of the columnar honeycomb structure 16 is not particularly limited, but the cross section orthogonal to the central axis of the columnar honeycomb structure 16 may be a polygon such as a triangle, a quadrangle, a pentagon, a hexagon, or an octagon, a circle, or an ellipse. It is preferably present, and may have other irregular shapes. It is preferably a polygon.
- the thickness of the partition wall 15 of the columnar honeycomb structure 16 is preferably 0.05 to 0.50 mm, and more preferably 0.10 to 0.45 mm in terms of ease of manufacture. For example, when it is 0.05 mm or more, the strength of the columnar honeycomb structure portion 16 is further improved, and when it is 0.50 mm or less, the pressure loss can be reduced.
- the thickness of the partition wall 15 is an average value measured by a method of observing a cross section in the central axial direction with a microscope.
- the porosity of the partition wall 15 is preferably 20 to 70%.
- the porosity of the partition wall 15 is preferably 20% or more, preferably 70% or less, in terms of ease of manufacture, and the strength of the honeycomb structure 11 can be maintained.
- the average pore diameter of the partition wall 15 is preferably 2 to 30 ⁇ m, more preferably 5 to 25 ⁇ m.
- the average pore diameter of the partition wall 15 is 2 ⁇ m or more, manufacturing becomes easy, and when it is 30 ⁇ m or less, the strength of the honeycomb structure 11 can be maintained.
- the terms "average pore diameter” and “porosity” mean the average pore diameter and porosity measured by the mercury intrusion method.
- the cell density of the columnar honeycomb structure 16 is not particularly limited, but is preferably in the range of 5 to 150 cells / cm 2 , more preferably in the range of 5 to 100 cells / cm 2 , and 31 to 80. More preferably, it is in the range of cell / cm 2 .
- the outer shape of the columnar honeycomb structure 16 is not particularly limited, but the end face is a circular columnar (cylindrical shape), the end face is an oval-shaped columnar shape, and the end face is a polygon (quadrangle, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, etc.). It can be shaped like a columnar shape.
- Such a columnar honeycomb structure 16 is formed into a honeycomb shape having a partition wall 15 in which a clay containing a ceramic raw material is formed by partitioning a plurality of cells extending from one end face to the other end face to form a flow path for fluid. Then, a honeycomb molded body is formed, and the honeycomb molded body is produced by baking after drying.
- the outer peripheral wall may be extruded integrally with the honeycomb structure and used as it is as the outer peripheral wall, or after molding or firing.
- the outer periphery of the honeycomb structure may be ground into a predetermined shape, and a coating material may be applied to the honeycomb structure obtained by grinding the outer periphery to form an outer peripheral coating.
- a honeycomb structure having an outer periphery is used without grinding the outermost periphery of the honeycomb structure, and the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb structure having the outer periphery (that is, the outer periphery of the honeycomb structure).
- the coating material may be further applied to the outer surface of the outer peripheral coating to form an outer peripheral coating. That is, in the former case, on the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb structure, only the outer peripheral coating made of the coating material is the outer peripheral wall located on the outermost circumference.
- an outer peripheral wall having a two-layer structure is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb structure, which is further laminated with an outer peripheral coating made of a coating material and is located on the outermost periphery.
- the outer peripheral wall may be extruded integrally with the honeycomb structure portion and fired as it is, and used as the outer peripheral wall without processing the outer periphery.

At least one selected from the group can be used.
- the catalyst 12 can be appropriately selected according to the desired purpose of exhaust gas purification.
- the method for supporting the catalyst 12 is not particularly limited, and can be conventionally carried out according to the method for supporting the catalyst on the honeycomb structure.
- the catalyst carrier 10 has a region A that does not support the catalyst 12 at least on the end face side on the inlet side in the gas flow direction.
- the end face side of the catalyst carrier 10 on the inlet side in the gas flow direction is in a low temperature region as compared with the end face side on the outlet side, and it is difficult for the catalyst 12 to reach a sufficient active temperature. Therefore, by setting the low temperature region as the region A that does not support the catalyst 12, the catalyst 12 can be effectively utilized without waste during induction heating, and the manufacturing cost is improved. In particular, when a precious metal such as Pt is used as the catalyst 12, the merit of manufacturing cost is great.
- the catalyst carrier 10 when the catalyst carrier 10 is of a type that purifies exhaust gas using NH 3 as a reducing agent, the catalyst carrier 10 has an SCR catalyst. Since the SCR catalyst has the property of adsorbing NH 3 , NH 3 is adsorbed in the low temperature region near the inlet in the gas flow direction of the catalyst carrier 10, and NH 3 does not sufficiently reach the outlet side, resulting in exhaust gas purification performance. There is a problem that it decreases.
- the catalyst carrier 10 according to the embodiment of the present invention has a region A that does not carry the SCR catalyst at least on the end face side on the inlet side in the gas flow direction, and has good adsorption of NH 3 on the inlet side. It is possible to suppress the deterioration of the exhaust gas purification performance.
