Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an apparatus for tapping rubber, more particularly the present invention relates to an apparatus for tapping rubber which is portable and motorized.
  • Rubber tapping is a process of collecting latex from a rubber tree. An incision is made in the tree's bark, which cuts through the latex vessels, from which then the latex then flows. The thickness of the incision must be done by a skilled worker for an optimum latex yield and to avoid damage to the tree. Uneven cutting of the bark may result in non-productive collection of the latex and damage the tree life.
  • the rubber tapper must remove a certain thickness of a layer of the bark along a downward half spiral on the tree trunk. If done carefully and skillfully, this tapping panel will yield latex for up to several years. After which, the opposite side will be tapped, allowing the other side to heal.
  • the spiral allows the latex to run down to a collecting cup, and the work is done at night or in the early morning before the day's temperature rises, so the latex will drip longer before coagulating and sealing the cut.
