Definitions
- the present invention is inserted in the field of cosmetology, chemistry, pharmacy, biology and in the great area of aesthetics.
- the present invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising a plurality of pigments that allows, during its application, a plurality of colors and shades. Additionally, the present invention relates to methods of applying said cosmetic composition on keratin fibers, the mode and time of application providing a plurality of colors and shades.
- pigments play crucial roles to obtain different types of colors and their respective shades.
- Direct pigments comprise substances that are deposited on the cuticle surface of keratin fibers for the purpose of temporary or semi-permanent coloration.
- pigments based on compounds of high molecular mass are involved, which are not absorbable in the cortex of the keratin fibers and which are deposited on the surface of their cuticles. Thus, they are easily removed after washing due to the fact that they are deposited around said fibers.
- semi-permanent pigments comprise substances of low molecular weight, with high chemical affinity with the keratin present in the cuticles of keratin fibers and are also not easily absorbed by the cortex.
- the high chemical affinity mentioned allows the semi-permanent pigments to remain adhered to the keratin fibers for longer times when compared to temporary pigments.
- the Direct pigments are applied without the need for oxidizing agents and allow you to add a variety of color tones to keratin fibers.
- oxidative pigments With respect to oxidative pigments, these provide permanent coloration to keratin fibers, are used in the presence of oxidizing agents and generally comprise compounds of molecular sizes smaller than cuticle sizes, allowing their penetration into the cortex.
- oxidizing agents in this case is necessary because oxidative pigments are commonly colorless and comprise intermediate molecules that react with each other to form target molecules (or colored molecules). This is because the target molecules are generally larger than the size of the cuticle, preventing them from penetrating the cortex of the keratin fibers if they are added directly to them.
- oxidative pigments are used with the objective of initially penetrating the cortex, followed by numerous chemical reactions among themselves in the presence of oxidative agents, and forming colored molecules whose size is greater than the interstitial size of the cuticles, becoming trapped in the cortex. Molecular entrapment, therefore, is reflected in the permanent coloring property of keratin fibers.
- oxidative pigments are of two types: intermediate oxidative pigments and oxidative coupling pigments.
- Intermediate oxidative pigments comprise mostly aromatic molecules with electron donor groups such as OH and/or NH2 groups in ortho or para positions, allowing their easy oxidation by oxidizing agents, that is, they are easily oxidizable precursors.
- oxidative coupling pigments are often aromatic molecules comprising electron donor groups such as OH and/or NH2 groups in meta position, increasing their resistance to oxidation against oxidizing agents.
- oxidative coupling pigments are molecules that react with oxidized intermediate oxidative pigments to form colored target molecules within the cortex.
- the cosmetic compositions used for coloring keratin fibers comprise insufficient types of pigments, not allowing to obtain a plurality of colors and shades during their application. Consequently, there is a limitation in the possibilities of colors and shades to be achieved. Additionally, there are no efficient methods for applying cosmetic compositions that expand the possibilities of obtaining additional colors and/or shades. More specifically, a certain cosmetic composition for keratin fibers, when subjected to the application methods of the state of the art, do not present additional colors and/or shades, and there is no method that expands these possibilities from said composition.
