Abstract

An internal line-up clamp (100) for holding two pipes to be laser beam welded together is disclosed. The internal line-up clamp (100) comprises a central body (201) connected between first and second expander sections (102, 103) and a sacrificial shield (220) removably mounted to the central body (201). The sacrificial shield (220) is configured to be positioned such that, during the process of laser beam welding the first pipe to the second pipe, the sacrificial shield (220) is spaced apart from the internal surfaces of the first and second pipes and is positioned to shield the central body (201) from the laser beam. Methods of welding pipe sections are also described.
