Definitions
- the present invention relates to an artificial knee joint, and a beam member, an insert member, and a base plate used for the artificial knee joint.
- the knee joint is a joint formed by the femur, tibia, and patella.
- the articular cartilage at the distal end of the femur and the proximal end of the tibia and the meniscus in between act as a cushion, allowing the knee joint to operate smoothly.
- the knee cartilage is worn and the meniscus is damaged due to obesity or aging, not only the cushioning property between the distal end of the femur and the proximal end of the tibia is lost, but also the knee joint is deformed. Occurs and progresses over time.
- the knee joint may be deformed when the patient has rheumatoid arthritis or the knee is injured. In the case of such knee joint deformation (osteoarthritis of the knee), the knee joint cannot operate smoothly, and the patient feels terrible pain when walking and becomes difficult to walk. In some cases.
- TKA total knee arthroplasty
- This total knee arthroplasty is a technique in which the distal end of the femur and the proximal end of the tibia are excised and the excised portion is replaced with an artificial knee joint.
- a large number of patients have undergone total knee osteoarthritis, which has the effect of relieving pain and enabling normal walking, and the degree of patient satisfaction is high.
- Many artificial knee joints used for total knee osteoarthritis have also been developed (see Patent Documents 1 and 2).
- the meniscus cannot be preserved by the current total knee arthroplasty and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.
- the entire joint surface is cut out and replaced with an artificial knee joint, so it is difficult to reproduce the original height of the joint surface. Due to changes in the original height of the joint surface, there were many reports of unexpected pain and limited range of motion after surgery, and patient satisfaction was limited.
- an object of the present invention is to provide an artificial knee joint that can acquire characteristics close to those of a normal knee joint, and a beam member, an insert member, and a base plate used for the artificial knee joint.
- the artificial knee joint of the present invention includes an insert member embedded in a part of the articular surface of the medial or lateral condyle of the tibia. It includes a beam member arranged below the insert member and having a length at both ends fixed to the cortical bone of the tibia.
- the surface of the insert member can be aligned with the remaining joint surface around the insert member, so that the original height of the joint surface can be reproduced. It is possible. In addition, the meniscus can be preserved by reproducing the original height of the joint surface. As a result, according to the artificial knee joint of the present invention, characteristics close to those of a normal knee joint can be obtained.
