Definitions
- the present invention patent which is inserted in the technical field of materials for grafts or prostheses, refers to an artificial capsule of the lens of the human eye, which does not generate changes in the passage of light rays, for the insertion of lenses intraocular (IOLs). Its use is necessary in cases of ophthalmologic surgeries that had some complication in which, the surgeon cannot implant the intraocular lens in a traditional way, which is inside the patient's capsular bag.
- Cataract surgery consists of extracting the patient's lens (a natural lens that we were born with) and implanting a new (artificial) lens, within a structure that covers the lens, called the capsular bag, which has the purpose simply support it so that the lens is placed inside it and stays there for a lifetime.
- the choice of the lens takes into account many variables that are measured prior to surgery, so that the patient has an optimized refractive result, with low-grade glasses / may or even the absence of it, being necessary to at least two of these lenses for each patient, one in case the surgery occurs as planned and the other for complications, which burdens the process, directly reflecting on the costs of the same.
- the patent described in US8900300B1 refers to a prosthetic capsular bag and method for inserting it.
- the prosthetic capsular bag helps to maintain the volume of the natural capsular bag, thus stabilizing the effective position of an IOL lens, so that refractive results can be improved with cataract surgery.
- the prosthetic capsular pouch also provides an integrated refractive surface, providing a means for experimentally determining an effective lens position before inserting an IOL.
- W02007085131A11 concerns a capsular bag with an artificial vitreous body and its manufacturing process.
- the pouch is formed mainly from the polysiloxane material.
- the wall thickness of the bag is less than 50pm
- the Shore hardness of the bag is 30-40D
- the tensile strength is 4-7Mpa
- the hemolytic rate of the material is less than 5%
- the light transmission is greater than 90 %.
- CN1483388A refers to a vitreous to artificial body of a capsular bag with high molecular weight film capable of regulating intraocular pressure and its manufacturing method. Includes bag, drain tube and ejection handle. Said bag is suitable for forming and giving volume to the vitreous body cavity of the human eye, the drain tube is connected to the upper portion of the bag, said drain tube is equipped with a drain valve.
- DE102015108247B4 describes an artificial capsule bag to support an (pcIOL) at the root of the iris in complicated cataract operations with severe zonular dehiscence or the absolute or complete loss of the capsular bag, which is made of a flexible material such as wire and a central structure.
- the present invention brings a capsular bag that does not interfere with the passage of light rays, regardless of the material that is made, simply using specific geometries .
- This geometry allows the fixation of the artificial capsular bag, as is usual for lenses, so that when we do not have this natural capsular support, then, in the same procedure or in other procedures, implant the artificial lens.
- the prosthesis has the proposal to replace the capsular bag, anatomical structure that covers the lens, in cases of surgical injuries, traumatic or secondary to diseases that generate degradation or fragility of this structure being fixed in the anatomical, intraocular site, that an intact capsular bag should be, so, to implant an Intraocular Lens (IOL) inside this prosthesis.
- IOL Intraocular Lens
- the prosthesis has a hollow structure, so that in the middle, in the region of vision, only the optical part of the lens remains, without any interference from any material and on the periphery of the artificial capsular bag is the support for the lenses.
- the material can be made of: hydrophobic or hydrophilic acrylic (materials already biocompatible and already used to make other intraocular prostheses), in the shape of "pne u" or toroid, with the widest possible material width preserving the adequate strength.
- the implant for fixing the bag will take place using the capsular tension ring (already used for fixing the capsular bag that is injured, but which still allows its use).
- Figure 1 represents the top and front views of the structure of a common IOL (intraocular lens), in which (1) it refers to the optical part of the lens and (2) its rods.
- IOL intraocular lens
- Figure 2 describes a schematic representation of the top and front view of the capsular bag, in which the inner diameter refers to a hollow region (3) and is from 4.0mm to 7.0mm, the region with biocompatible material (4) refers to the external diameter, which ranges from 8.0mm to 13.0mm.
- Figure 3 refers to the IOL inserted in the structure of the capsular bag, where the optical part of the lens overlaps the hollow region of the capsular bag and the rods over the part with material for its accommodation and fixation.
- Figure 4 identifies the structure of the IOL on the capsular bag in a top view and its respective sections in front views.
