- Nitrogen oxide is mainly generated in the process of burning fuel or raw materials at high temperatures in incinerators, combustion furnaces, power plants, automobiles, and ships. When these nitrogen oxides are discharged to the atmosphere, they cause respiratory diseases in the human body and slow or die the growth rate of plants. It can also cause ozone generation and photochemical smog in urban areas.
- nitrogen oxides exist in the form of NO, NO 2 , N 2 O, and N 2 O 4 , and the biggest damage caused by nitrogen oxides is that nitrogen oxides react with hydrocarbons in the presence of sunlight to cause photochemical smog. I can.
- nitrogen oxides not only cause visibility impairment and greenhouse effect, but are also converted into nitric acid and nitrate, causing acid rain. Therefore, efforts to reduce nitrogen oxides are urgently required.
- secondary fine dust problems are caused by fine dust precursors that are granulated in gas or air.
- Nitrogen oxides which have the highest emissions among domestic air pollutants, are mostly reduced by urea SCR.
- urea SCR requires expensive hardware and requires a lot of space due to ancillary devices for operation, there is a problem that it is limited to be spread to various emission sources.
- Harmful exhaust gas components generated from automobiles include carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC), as well as nitrogen oxides.
- nitrogen oxides In the case of gasoline vehicles, the amount of nitrogen oxides is very small compared to other harmful substances, so nitrogen oxides are produced by oxidation-reduction of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides, which have been used since the 1970s. - a urea solution is sprayed to a dosing module disposed at the front end to maintain the nitrogen oxide removal performance above a certain level.
- the selective catalytic reduction technology using urea can be mainly used only for large vehicles and freight vehicles, and has a disadvantage in that it is difficult to apply to small vehicles, old vehicles, and offshore small and medium-sized ships.
- an additional space is secured and urea SCR technology using a zeolite catalyst is used, but the price of the vehicle is increased accordingly.
- the urea solution which is a reducing agent, must be periodically replenished, there is a problem that the economic burden is large and the process is cumbersome.
- LNT is composed of a NOx occluding material and an oxidation catalyst (DOC) in one carrier, and occludes NOx in an occluding material such as barium (Ba) in lean mode operation, similar to a three-way catalyst.

It has the advantage of removing 95 to 99% of organic compounds (VOC), but when operating in a state of low VOC concentration, it is expensive to operate because fuel must be supplied from the outside as a heat source.
- halogen compounds are contained or a large amount of inorganic metal compounds are contained, additional incineration devices are required, and there are disadvantages such as the possibility of generating NOx at high temperatures.
- the adsorption treatment method is a method of collecting, collecting, and retaining contaminants on the surface of the adsorbent by bringing the gas into contact with a solid adsorbent. Compared to other methods, it is easier to operate and requires less operation cost and equipment investment, and the concentration of pollutants in the exhaust gas is extremely high. It can be used even when the contaminant is low or non-flammable, and it has the advantage of being able to almost completely remove the compound with low volatility and high molecular weight, while the desorption of the compound is difficult when the adsorbent is regenerated and may cause secondary contamination.
