Abstract

The present invention relates to a system (1) which enables to receive outputs relating to quality measurement by performing real-time and subscriber-based measurements about successful/failed call and data usage information of mobile subscribers who are outbound roaming.

Description

A SYSTEM FOR PERFORMING QUALITY MEASUREMENT RELATING TO OPERATOR ROAMING SERVICE
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a system which enables to receive outputs relating to quality measurement by performing real-time and subscriber-based measurements about successful/failed call and data usage information of mobile subscribers who are outbound roaming.
Background of the Invention Today, mobile subscribers experience circumstances such as sometimes service interruption, failed call, failed mobile data usage while they receive service abroad. Measuring these negative circumstances experienced by mobile subscribers have importance for mobile network companies in order to take precaution and improve their services.
Considering the studies in the state of the art, it is understood that there is need for a system which enables to detect subscriber-based performance determinants by instantly measuring interruptions, failed calls, failed mobile data usages experienced by mobile network subscribers who are outbound roaming.
The European patent document no. EP1565028, an application in the state of the art, discloses a system for managing roaming mobile devices. The management apparatus in the said system includes many units such as an application which gathers roaming activity data, a database application wherein call records of each roaming device are gathered, an output unit. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, monitoring/management of all roaming devices is performed instantly. When the mobile device attempts to connect to the roaming network, the mobile device is registered in VLR (Visited Location Register) unit. It sends an enquiry to the HLR (Home Location Register) unit in order that the mobile device is authorized for roaming. In addition, this transaction is also required to carry out billing of the mobile device. The roaming network is connect to the local network. This connection is realized by SS7 signalling. In a preferred embodiment, the signalling is monitored by a probe. Also, this probe cooperates with the database and the related data gathering application in order to determine how the mobile device is used during roaming. Written messages are sent to the roaming users by the output unit mentioned in the invention.
Summary of the Invention
An objective of the present invention is to realize a system which enables to instantly measure successful and failed service usages of mobile network subscribers who are outbound roaming and to calculate subscriber-based service quality.
Detailed Description of the Invention
“A System for Performing Quality Measurement Relating to Operator Roaming Service” realized to fulfil the objective of the present invention is shown in the figure attached, in which:
Figure l is a schematic view of the inventive system.
The components illustrated in the figure are individually numbered, where the numbers refer to the following:
1. System
2. Electronic device 3. Probe
4. Server
5. Database
The inventive system (1) which enables to receive outputs relating to quality measurement by performing real-time and subscriber-based measurements about successful/failed call and data usage information of mobile subscribers who are outbound roaming comprises:
at least one electronic device (2) which is used by a subscriber who is abroad, and which can roam and is configured to communicate with both its own GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) operator and local GSM operators;
at least one probe (3) which is configured to gather data about the service that the electronic device (2) receives at home and abroad;
at least one server (4) which is configured to receive and process the data about the service gathered by the probe (3) and to determine KPI (Key
Performance Indicator) about the quality of service;
at least one database (5) which is configured to store the KPFs determined by the server (4).
The electronic device (2) included in the inventive system (1) is configured to roam at home and abroad and to receive mobile network service from GSM operators in the country where it is located. The electronic device (2) is configured to share the quality data about the service that it receives.
The probe (3) included in the inventive system (1) is configured to monitor and to measure data such as number of successful calls, number of failed calls, number of successful mobile data connection, number of failed mobile data connection, network interruptions taking place on the electronic device (2) and CLI-loss (Calling Line Identification Loss) occurring in calls, by accessing the roaming electronic device (2). In one embodiment of the invention, the probe (3) is configured to receive transaction records from external systems processing this data instead of measuring the network traffic directly.
The server (4) included in the inventive system (1) is configured to receive and process the measurement data obtained by the probe (3) and to obtain subscriber- based service quality outputs. The server (4) is configured to calculate the KPI relating to the success rate by dividing the number of successful calls into the total number of calls. The server (4) is configured to calculate the KPI relating to the CLI-loss rate by dividing the number of calling line identification loss into the total number of calls.
The database (5) included in the inventive system (1) is configured to store the KPI data obtained by the probe (3), on subscriber basis.
In the inventive system (1), the outbound roaming user takes actions such as call, mobile data usage over the electronic device (2) where s/he receives mobile network service at first. Interruptions and failures experienced by the user while s/he takes action over the electronic device (2) are detected by a probe (3). The probe (3) performs measurements relating to these interruptions and failures and transmits the measurement results to the server (4). The server (4) calculates subscriber- specific KPI’s by processing the received measurement results so as to be subscriber-based. The KPFs calculated by the server (4) are stored in a database
(5)·
Within these basic concepts; it is possible to develop various embodiments of the inventive system (1); the invention cannot be limited to examples disclosed herein and it is essentially according to claims.
