Abstract
紫外光発生用ターゲット(20)は、発光層(22)を備える。発光層(22)は、少なくともスカンジウム(Sc)が添加されているYPO4結晶を含み、電子線EBを受けて紫外光UVを発生する。また、紫外光発生用ターゲット(20)の製造方法は、イットリウム(Y)の酸化物、Scの酸化物、リン酸、及び液体を含む混合物を作製する第1工程と、液体を蒸発させる第2工程と、混合物を焼成する第3工程とを含む。これにより、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光発生用ターゲット及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源が実現される。
Description
本開示は、紫外光発生用ターゲット及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源に関するものである。
特許文献1には、電子線を受けて紫外光を発生させる光源に関する技術が開示されている。この紫外光源では、Scを添加したAl2O3(「Sc:Al2O3」とも表記される)が発光材料として用いられている。
従来より、紫外光源として、水銀キセノンランプや重水素ランプ等の電子管が用いられてきた。しかし、このような紫外光源は、発光効率が低く、大型であり、また安定性や寿命の点で課題がある。また、水銀キセノンランプを用いる場合、水銀による環境への影響が懸念される。
一方、別の紫外光源として、ターゲットに電子線を照射することにより紫外光を励起させる構造を備えるものがある(例えば、特許文献1を参照)。このような光源は、高い安定性を生かした光計測分野や、低消費電力性を生かした殺菌や消毒用、あるいは高い波長選択性を利用した医療用光源やバイオ化学用光源として期待されている。そして、電子線により紫外光を励起させる光源においては、上述したSc:Al2O3以外にも、電子線励起の有用な発光材料が求められている。
本発明は、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光発生用ターゲット及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源を提供することを目的とする。
本発明の実施形態は、紫外光発生用ターゲットである。紫外光発生用ターゲットは、少なくともスカンジウム(Sc)が添加されているYPO4結晶を含み電子線を受けて紫外光を発生する発光部を備える。
本発明の実施形態は、紫外光発生用ターゲットの製造方法である。紫外光発生用ターゲットの製造方法は、上記構成の紫外光発生用ターゲットを製造する方法であって、イットリウム(Y)の酸化物、スカンジウム(Sc)の酸化物、リン酸若しくはリン酸化合物、及び液体を含む混合物を作製する第1工程と、液体を蒸発させる第2工程と、混合物を焼成する第3工程と、を含む。
本発明の実施形態は、電子線励起紫外光源である。電子線励起紫外光源は、上記構成の紫外光発生用ターゲットと、発光部に電子線を照射する電子源と、を備える。
本発明の実施形態によれば、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光発生用ターゲット及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源を提供できる。
以下、添付図面を参照しながら、紫外光発生用ターゲット及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源の実施の形態を詳細に説明する。なお、図面の説明において同一の要素には同一の符号を付し、重複する説明を省略する。
図1は、一実施形態に係る紫外光発生用ターゲットを備える電子線励起紫外光源10の内部構成を示す模式図である。図1に示されるように、この電子線励起紫外光源10では、真空排気された容器(電子管)11の内部の上端側に、電子源12および引き出し電極13が配置されている。そして、電子源12と引き出し電極13との間に電源部16から適当な引き出し電圧が印加されると、高電圧によって加速された電子線EBが電子源12から出射される。電子源12としては、例えば大面積の電子線を出射する電子源(例えばカーボンナノチューブ等の冷陰極、或いは熱陰極)が用いられる。
また、容器11の内部の下端側には、紫外光発生用ターゲット20が配置されている。紫外光発生用ターゲット20は例えば接地電位に設定され、電子源12には電源部16から負の高電圧が印加される。これにより、電子源12から出射された電子線EBは紫外光発生用ターゲット20に照射される。紫外光発生用ターゲット20は、この電子線EBを受けて励起され、紫外光UVを発生する。
図2は、紫外光発生用ターゲット20の構成を示す断面図である。図2に示されるように、紫外光発生用ターゲット20は、基板21と、基板21上に設けられた発光層22と、発光層22上に設けられた光反射膜24とを備えている。基板21は、紫外光UVを透過する材料から成る板状の部材であり、本実施形態ではサファイア(Al2O3)から成る。基板21は、主面21aおよび裏面21bを有する。基板21の厚さは、例えば0.1mm以上10mm以下である。
発光層22は、本実施形態における発光部の例である。発光層22は、基板21の主面21aと接しており、電子線EBを受けて励起され、紫外光UVを発生する。また、発光層22は、賦活剤が添加された希土類元素を含有する酸化物結晶を含む。
本実施形態では、賦活剤はスカンジウム(Sc)である。Scに加えて、ビスマス(Bi)が賦活剤として添加されてもよい。また、希土類元素を含有する酸化物結晶は、イットリウム(Y)及びリン(P)の酸化物すなわちYPO4(イットリウムリン酸)である。一例では、発光層22の組成は、ScxBiyY1-x-yPO4(0<x<1、0≦y<1)として表すことができる。なお、発光層22は、Sc及びBi以外の賦活剤、或いはY以外の希土類元素を含んでもよく、これらを全く含まなくてもよい。発光層22の膜厚は、例えば0.1μm以上1mm以下である。
後述する実施例に示されるように、P及びOを除く成分に占めるScのモル組成比、すなわちScの組成xは、0.02以上であってもよく、0.6以下であってもよい。換言すると、P及びOを除く成分に占めるScの濃度(以下、単にSc濃度と称することがある)は、2mol%以上であってもよく、60mol%以下であってもよい。この場合、紫外光UVの発光強度(言い換えると、電子線のエネルギーに対する紫外光への変換効率)を顕著に高めることができる。
また、Scの組成xは、0.03以上であってもよく、0.04以上であってもよく、或いは0.05以上であってもよい。換言すると、Sc濃度は、3mol%以上であってもよく、4mol%以上であってもよく、或いは5mol%以上であってもよい。このような濃度レベルでは、濃度が大きくなるほど紫外光UVの発光強度を更に高めることができる。
また、Scの組成xは、0.5以下であってもよく、0.4以下であってもよく、或いは0.3以下であってもよい。換言すると、Sc濃度は、50mol%以下であってもよく、40mol%以下であってもよく、或いは30mol%以下であってもよい。このような濃度レベルでは、濃度が小さくなるほど紫外光UVの発光強度を更に高めることができる。
発光層22の結晶化の度合いは、焼結温度に応じて変化する。後述する実施例に示されるように、CuKα線(波長1.54Å)を用いたX線回折(X-ray diffraction:XRD)計によって測定される発光層22の<200>面の回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅は、0.25°以下であってもよい。この場合もまた、紫外光UVの発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。或いは、この半値幅は、0.20°以下であってもよく、0.18°以下であってもよく、0.16°以下であってもよい。この場合、紫外光UVの発光強度を更に高めることができる。
光反射膜24は、例えばアルミニウムといった金属材料を含む。光反射膜24は、発光層22の上面及び側面を完全に覆っている。発光層22において発生した紫外光UVのうち、基板21とは反対の方向へ進む光は光反射膜24によって反射され、基板21に向けて進む。
この紫外光発生用ターゲット20において、電子源12(図1参照)から出射された電子線EBが発光層22に入射すると、発光層22が励起され、紫外光UVが生じる。紫外光UVの一部は基板21の主面21aに直接向かい、紫外光UVの残りの部分は光反射膜24によって反射された後に基板21の主面21aに向かう。その後、紫外光UVは主面21aに入射し、基板21を透過後、裏面21bから外部へ放射される。
図3は、紫外光発生用ターゲット20の製造方法における各工程を示すフローチャートである。まず、第1工程S11において、Yの酸化物(Y2O3)、Scの酸化物(Sc2O3)、リン酸(H3PO4)若しくはリン酸化合物(例えばリン酸二水素アンモニウム(NH4H2PO4)、及び液体(例えば純水)を含む混合物を作製する。このとき、Biの酸化物(Bi2O3)を更に混合物に加えてもよい。具体的には、容器内に収容された液体内にYの酸化物、Scの酸化物、及びリン酸(、及びBiの酸化物)を投入し、十分に攪拌する。攪拌に要する時間は、例えば24時間である。これにより、容器内においてリン酸及び各酸化物を相互に反応させ、熟成させる。
この第1工程S11においては、Scの酸化物の混合割合を1.2質量%以上47.8質量%以下としてもよい。これにより、P及びOを除く成分に占めるScの濃度が2mol%以上60mol%以下である(すなわちScの組成xが0.02以上0.6以下である)発光層22を好適に作製することができる。或いは、Scの酸化物の混合割合を1.9質量%以上としてもよく、2.5質量%以上としてもよく、3.1質量%以上としてもよい。また、Scの酸化物の混合割合を37.9質量%以下としてもよく、28.9質量%以下としてもよく、20.7質量%以下としてもよい。
次に、第2工程S12において、上記混合物を加熱して液体を蒸発させる。これにより、上記混合物から液体を除いた粉末状の混合物が作製される。一例では、加熱温度は100~300℃の範囲内であり、加熱時間は1~5時間の範囲内である。
続いて、第3工程S13において、混合物の焼成(熱処理)を行う。具体的には、まず、坩堝に入れた混合物を熱処理炉(例えば電気炉)内に設置する。そして、大気中において混合物の熱処理を行い、これらを焼成する。このときの焼成温度は例えば1050℃以上であり、また1700℃以下である。焼成時間は例えば2時間の範囲内である。これにより、混合物の構成材料が結晶化する。
なお、焼成温度は例えば1100℃以上であってもよく、1200℃以上であってもよく、1300℃以上であってもよく、1400℃以上であってもよく、1500℃以上であってもよい。一実施例では、焼成温度は1600℃である。1600℃以下の温度範囲においては、焼成温度が高くなるほど発光層22の結晶化の度合いが高まり、紫外光UVの発光強度を更に高めることができる。
続いて、第4工程S14において、焼成後の混合物を基板21上に層状に配置する。このとき、粉末状の混合物をそのまま基板21上に載せてもよいが、沈降法を用いてもよい。沈降法とは、アルコール等の液体中に粉末状の混合物を投入し、超音波等を用いて混合物を液体内にて分散させ、液体の底部に配置された基板21上に混合物を自然に沈降させたのち乾燥させる方法である。このような方法を用いることによって、均一な密度及び厚さでもって混合物を基板21上に堆積させることができる。こうして、発光層22が基板21上に形成される。
続いて、第5工程S15において、発光層22の焼成(熱処理)を再び行ってもよい。この焼成は、アルコールを充分に蒸発させる目的と、基板21と混合物、および混合物同士の付着力を増加させる目的との為に大気中において行われる。このときの焼成温度は例えば1100℃であり、焼成時間は例えば2時間である。
最後に、第6工程S16において、発光層22の上面及び側面を覆うように光反射膜24を形成する。光反射膜24の形成方法は、例えば真空蒸着である。発光層22の上面上における光反射膜24の厚さは例えば50nmである。以上の工程を経て、本実施形態の紫外光発生用ターゲット20が完成する。
なお、上記の説明では混合物の焼成ののちに基板21上に該混合物を堆積させているが、焼成前の混合物を基板21上に堆積させたのちに混合物の焼成を行ってもよい。その場合、混合物の基板21上への堆積は上述した沈降法により行ってもよい。
或いは、レーザアブレーションによって混合物を基板21上に堆積させてもよい。図4は、レーザアブレーションによる紫外光発生用ターゲット20の製造方法における各工程を示すフローチャートである。なお、第1工程S11及び第2工程S12については上記と同様なので詳細な説明を省略する。
第2工程S12の後の第3工程S21において、粉末状の混合物をペレット状に成型して、ターゲットを作製する。次に、第4工程S22において、基板21(例えばサファイア基板)を用意し、基板21をレーザアブレーション装置の回転ホルダに設置するとともに、作製したターゲットを試料載置台に載せる。そして、真空容器の内部を排気し、ヒータによって基板21を所定温度(例えば800℃)まで加熱する。
その後、ガス導入口から真空容器の内部へ酸素ガスを供給しながら、レーザビーム(例えばKrFエキシマレーザからのレーザビーム(波長248nm))をレーザ導入口から導入してターゲットへ照射する。ターゲットを構成する原料は、レーザビームを受けて蒸発し、真空容器の内部を飛散する。この飛散した原料の一部が、基板21の露出した一面に付着し、Sc:YPO4の非晶質層が形成される(アブレーション成膜)。これにより、Sc:YPO4が基板21上に層状に配置される。
Sc:YPO4を成膜する時間は、非晶質層が所望の厚さとなるように適宜調整される。非晶質層の厚さを、2μm以下としてもよい。また、好適な非晶質層が得られ、紫外光の発光強度に優れる観点から、非晶質層の厚さを、好ましくは1.8μm以下、より好ましくは1.6μm以下、更に好ましくは1.4μm以下、特に好ましくは1.2μm以下としてもよい。
また、非晶質層の厚さを、0.05μm以上としてもよい。紫外光の発光強度に優れる観点から、非晶質層の厚さを、好ましくは0.1μm以上、より好ましくは0.5μm以上、更に好ましくは0.8μm以上、特に好ましくは1.0μm以上としてもよい。
続いて、第5工程S23において、基板21の一面上に形成されたSc:YPO4の非晶質層を焼成する。具体的には、非晶質層が形成された基板21をレーザアブレーション装置から取り出し、焼成装置へ投入する。そして、焼成装置内の温度を例えば1600℃より高温に設定し、その温度を所定時間維持することにより、基板21上の非晶質層を焼成する。これにより、基板21の一面上に発光層22が形成される。
焼成雰囲気は、例えば真空又は大気であってよい。焼成温度は、例えば1800℃以下であってよく、発光層22の成膜性及び紫外光の発光強度に優れる観点から、好ましくは1700℃以下、より好ましくは1600℃以下、更に好ましくは1500℃以下、特に好ましくは1400℃以下であってよい。また、焼成温度は、例えば1000℃以上であってよい。焼成時間は、例えば1~10時間であってよい。
以上に説明した本実施形態の紫外光発生用ターゲット20及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源10によって得られる効果について説明する。
上述したように、紫外光発生用ターゲット20の発光層22は、少なくともScが添加されているYPO4結晶を含む。後述する本発明者の実験によれば、このような組成を有する発光層22に電子線EBを照射すると、240nm付近(実験では241nm)の波長を有する紫外光UVを励起させることができる。従って、本実施形態によれば、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光発生用ターゲット20を提供できる。
また、本実施形態に係る紫外光発生用ターゲット20の製造方法は、図3及び図4に示されたように、Yの酸化物、Scの酸化物、リン酸、及び液体を含む混合物を作製する第1工程S11と、この混合物を加熱して液体を蒸発させる第2工程S12と、混合物を焼成する第3工程S13(若しくは第5工程S23)とを含む。このような製造方法によれば、発光層22を好適に作製することができる。加えて、後述する実施例に示されるように、このような液相法(溶液法ともいう)により、Yの酸化物、Scの酸化物、及びリン酸の粉末を単に混合して焼成する方法(固相法)と比較して、紫外光UVの発光強度をより高めることができる。
上述したように、発光層22のYPO4結晶にはBiが更に添加されてもよい。また、その為に、第1工程S11において、Biの酸化物を更に含む混合物を作製してもよい。この場合であっても、発光層22への電子線EBの照射により紫外光UVを効果的に励起させることができる。
上述したように、YPO4結晶に含まれるScの濃度は2mol%以上60mol%以下であってもよい。また、その為に、第1工程S11において、Scの酸化物の混合割合を1.2質量%以上47.8質量%以下としてもよい。後述する本発明者の実験によれば、Scの濃度がこのような範囲内にある場合に、紫外光UVの発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。
上述したように、CuKα線を用いたX線回折計によって測定される<200>面の回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅は0.25°以下であってもよい。また、その為に、第3工程S13において、焼成温度を1050℃以上としてもよい。後述する本発明者の実験によれば、このような場合に紫外光UVの発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。
また、本実施形態による電子線励起紫外光源10は、紫外光発生用ターゲット20と、発光層22に電子線EBを照射する電子源12と、を備える。この電子線励起紫外光源10によれば、紫外光発生用ターゲット20を備えることにより、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光源を提供できる。
(第1実施例)
ここで、上記実施形態の第1実施例について説明する。本発明者は、次に述べる方法によって、発光層22としての複数の試料(Sc:YPO4)を実際に作製した。まず、Y2O3、Sc2O3、及びH3PO4を純水に混ぜて、複数の混合物を作製した。このとき、各試料のP及びOを除く成分に占めるScの濃度がそれぞれ0mol%、2mol%、5mol%、8mol%、10mol%、12mol%、15mol%、20mol%、40mol%、60mol%、80mol%、及び100mol%となるように、各混合物におけるSc2O3の割合を互いに異ならせた。
次に、各混合物を24時間かけて十分に攪拌し、Y2O3、Sc2O3、及びH3PO4を相互に反応させ、熟成させた。その後、混合物を加熱して純水を蒸発させ、粉末状の混合物を得た。続いて、大気中での混合物の焼成を行った。このとき、Scの濃度を5mol%とした試料については、更に複数に分け、そのうち1つの試料については焼成を行わず、また他の試料それぞれについては焼成温度を800℃、1000℃、1100℃、1200℃、1400℃、1500℃、1600℃、及び1700℃とした。
また、他のSc濃度の試料のうち、2mol%、8mol%、10mol%、12mol%、15mol%、及び20mol%の試料に関しては焼成温度を1600℃とした。0mol%、40mol%、及び60mol%の試料に関しては、焼成温度を1400℃および1600℃の2通りとし、80mol%及び100mol%の試料に関しては焼成温度を1400℃とした。焼成時間は2時間であった。その後、前述した沈降法によって、円板状の石英基板上に、試料を層状に堆積させた。
図5は、本実施例において用いられた実験装置を概略的に示す図である。この装置30は、金属製の円筒状の真空容器31と、真空容器31の一端に配置された電子源32(浜松ホトニクス製)と、真空容器31の他端寄りの側壁に設けられた観察窓33とを備える。
電子源32の電子線EBの照射軸を真空容器31の中心軸と一致させ、真空容器31の他端側に配置された石英基板34上の試料35に電子線EBを照射した。このとき、石英基板34の表面を真空容器31の中心軸に対して観察窓33の方向に45°傾け、試料35から発生した紫外光UVを観察窓33から出射させた。真空容器31の外部には分光検出器37(浜松ホトニクス製、Photonic Multi-Analyzer PMA-12、型番C10027-01)を配置し、分光検出器37に接続された光ファイバ36の先端を観察窓33に対向させた。電子線EBのエネルギーは10000eVであった。
図6は、装置30によって得られた、焼成温度と発光強度との関係を示すグラフである。また、図7は、装置30によって得られた、焼成温度毎の発光スペクトルを示すグラフである。図6及び図7から明らかなように、焼成温度が1600℃のときに発光強度が最も大きくなり、1600℃までは焼成温度が高くなるほど発光強度が次第に大きくなる。特に、1000℃から1100℃にかけて、発光強度は顕著に増大している。すなわち、焼成温度を1050℃以上とすることにより、発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。なお、焼成温度が1600℃を超えると発光強度は低下するが、焼成温度が1700℃である場合であっても、十分な発光強度が得られている。
図8は、装置30によって得られた、P及びOを除く成分に占めるScの濃度と発光強度との関係を示すグラフである。なお、図中の〇は焼成温度が1600℃である場合のプロットであり、△は焼成温度が1400℃である場合のプロットである。図9は、図8の基になった数値を示す図表である。また、図10及び図11は、装置30によって得られた、Sc濃度毎の発光スペクトルを示すグラフである。
図8~図11から明らかなように、Sc濃度が5mol%のときに発光強度が最も大きくなり、2mol%から60mol%の範囲内では比較的高い発光強度が得られる。但し、40mol%よりも大きい範囲では、Sc濃度が高くなるほど発光強度は次第に減少する。なお、この特性はSc濃度に依存するものであって、Sc以外の賦活剤(例えばBi等)が更に添加された場合であっても、この傾向は変わらないと考えられる。
ここで、焼成温度と試料の結晶性との関係について調べた結果について説明する。図12は、CuKα線を用いたX線回折計によって測定された、焼成温度が互いに異なる各試料(Sc濃度は5mol%)の回折強度波形を示すグラフである。図中には、各回折強度波形に対応する焼成温度が併記されている。また、図中に記載された複数の数値Aは、各回折強度波形のピークに対応する結晶面方位を表している。図12を参照すると、焼成温度が400℃を超えた辺りで、僅かに回折線が出現することがわかる。そして、焼成温度が高くなるほど、回折線が次第に明確となり、回折ピーク強度が増大する。
図13は、図12に示された各焼成温度の回折強度波形における<200>面付近(2θ/θ=26°付近)の回折強度ピーク波形を拡大し、重ねて示すグラフである。また、図14は、焼成温度と<200>面の回折ピーク強度との関係を示すグラフである。図14を参照すると、焼成温度が高くなるほど<200>面の回折ピーク強度が次第に増大するが、焼成温度1100℃辺りで飽和し始め、焼成温度1200℃辺りで完全に飽和することがわかる。
また、図15は、<200>面に対応する回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅と焼成温度との関係を示すグラフである。また、図16は図15の基になった数値を示す図表である。図15及び図16を参照すると、焼成温度が高くなるほど<200>面の回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅が次第に狭くなるが、焼成温度1400℃辺りで飽和することがわかる。このときの半値幅はおよそ0.16°である。また、図15を参照すると、焼成温度が1050℃である場合の半値幅は0.25°、焼成温度が1100℃である場合の半値幅はおよそ0.2°であることがわかる。
回折ピーク強度はX線の強度や照射時間といった照射条件に依存して変化するが、回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅は、結晶性に応じて定まる定性的な値であるため、X線の照射条件には依存しない。すなわち、試料作製時の焼成温度は回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅に置き換えることができ、回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅を測定することによって、試料作製時の焼成温度を知ることができる。上記の実施形態において述べた、発光層22における<200>面の回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅は、発光層22の作製時における第3工程S13の焼成温度に対応する。
(第2実施例)
続いて、上記実施形態の第2実施例について説明する。本発明者は、賦活剤としてScに加えてBiを添加した複数の試料を作製し、その発光特性について調べた。なお、作製方法及び実験装置は、材料にBi2O3を加えたことを除いて、上記第1実施例と同様である。但し、P及びOを除く成分に占めるScの濃度を5mol%とし、Biの濃度を0.5mol%とした。また、各試料の焼成温度を1000℃、1200℃、1400℃、及び1600℃とした。
図17は、本実施例において得られた、焼成温度毎の発光スペクトルを示すグラフである。図17を参照すると、Biを添加した場合であっても、240nm付近の波長を有する紫外光を試料が発光していることがわかる。また、焼成温度が高くなるほど発光強度が増大し、1600℃において最大の発光強度が得られていることがわかる。
(第3実施例)
次に、上記実施形態の第3実施例について説明する。本発明者は、液相法及び固相法のそれぞれを用いて、発光層22としての複数の試料(Sc:YPO4)を実際に作製した。
<液相法での作成>
5mol%のSc:YPO4を2グラム作製するために、Sc2O3の粉末を0.038グラム、Y2O3の粉末を1.181グラム、それぞれ秤量した。これらをH3PO4(液体)中で混合して混合物を作製した。その後、電気炉にてこの混合物を加熱することにより(大気中1600℃)、焼成を行った。
5mol%のSc:YPO4を2グラム作製するために、Sc2O3の粉末を0.038グラム、Y2O3の粉末を1.181グラム、それぞれ秤量した。これらをH3PO4(液体)中で混合して混合物を作製した。その後、電気炉にてこの混合物を加熱することにより(大気中1600℃)、焼成を行った。
<固相法での作成>
5mol%のSc:YPO4を2グラム作製するために、Sc2O3の粉末を0.038グラム、Y2O3の粉末を1.181グラム、NH4H2PO4の粉末を1.266グラム、それぞれ秤量した。これらを混合して混合物を作製し、その後、電気炉にてこの混合物を加熱することにより(大気中1600℃)、焼成を行った。
5mol%のSc:YPO4を2グラム作製するために、Sc2O3の粉末を0.038グラム、Y2O3の粉末を1.181グラム、NH4H2PO4の粉末を1.266グラム、それぞれ秤量した。これらを混合して混合物を作製し、その後、電気炉にてこの混合物を加熱することにより(大気中1600℃)、焼成を行った。
続いて、液相法及び固相法のそれぞれを用いて作製した試料を石英基板上に膜状に塗布し、電子線を照射して発光スペクトルを計測した。図18は、その計測結果を示すグラフである。同図において、グラフG1は液相法による結果を示し、グラフG2は固相法による結果を示す。同図に示されるように、液相法では、発光強度のピーク値および全体の発光量ともに、固相法よりも大きくなった。
本発明による紫外光発生用ターゲット及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源は、上記実施形態及び構成例に限定されるものではなく、種々の変形が可能である。
上記実施形態による紫外光発生用ターゲットは、少なくともスカンジウム(Sc)が添加されているYPO4結晶を含み電子線を受けて紫外光を発生する発光部を備える構成としている。
本発明者の実験によれば、このような組成を有する発光部に電子線を照射すると、240nm付近の波長を有する紫外光を励起させることができる。従って、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光発生用ターゲットを提供できる。
上記の紫外光発生用ターゲットでは、YPO4結晶にビスマス(Bi)が更に添加されている構成としても良い。この場合であっても、発光部への電子線の照射により紫外光を効果的に励起させることができる。
上記の紫外光発生用ターゲットでは、P及びOを除く成分に占めるScのモル組成比が0.02以上0.6以下である構成としても良い。本発明者の実験によれば、Scの濃度がこのような範囲内にある場合に、紫外光の発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。
上記の紫外光発生用ターゲットでは、CuKα線を用いたX線回折計によって測定される発光部の<200>面の回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅が0.25°以下である構成としても良い。本発明者の実験によれば、この場合に紫外光の発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。
上記実施形態による紫外光発生用ターゲットの製造方法は、上記構成の紫外光発生用ターゲットを製造する方法であって、イットリウム(Y)の酸化物、スカンジウム(Sc)の酸化物、リン酸若しくはリン酸化合物、及び液体を含む混合物を作製する第1工程と、液体を蒸発させる第2工程と、混合物を焼成する第3工程と、を含む構成としている。
このような製造方法によれば、上述した紫外光発生用ターゲットの発光部を好適に作製することができる。加えて、本発明者の実験によれば、このような液相法(溶液法ともいう)により、Yの酸化物、Scの酸化物、及びリン酸(若しくはリン酸化合物)の粉末を単に混合して焼成する方法(固相法)と比較して、紫外光の発光強度をより高めることができる。
上記の製造方法では、第1工程において、ビスマス(Bi)の酸化物を更に含む混合物を作製する構成としても良い。この場合であっても、発光部への電子線の照射により紫外光を効果的に励起させることができる。
上記の製造方法では、第1工程において、リン酸及びリン酸化合物を除くScの酸化物の混合割合を1.2質量%以上47.8質量%以下とする構成としても良い。本発明者の実験によれば、Scがこのような混合割合である場合に、紫外光の発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。
上記の製造方法では、第3工程において、焼成温度を1050℃以上とする構成としても良い。本発明者の実験によれば、この場合に紫外光の発光強度を顕著に高めることができる。
上記実施形態による電子線励起紫外光源は、上記構成の紫外光発生用ターゲットと、発光部に電子線を照射する電子源と、を備える構成としている。
この電子線励起紫外光源によれば、上記構成の紫外光発生用ターゲットを備えることにより、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光源を提供できる。
本発明は、Sc:Al2O3とは異なる電子線励起の有用な発光材料を備える紫外光発生用ターゲット及びその製造方法、並びに電子線励起紫外光源として利用可能である。

Claims (9)
- 少なくともスカンジウム(Sc)が添加されているYPO4結晶を含み電子線を受けて紫外光を発生する発光部を備える、紫外光発生用ターゲット。
- 前記YPO4結晶にビスマス(Bi)が更に添加されている、請求項1に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲット。
- P及びOを除く成分に占めるScのモル組成比が0.02以上0.6以下である、請求項1または2に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲット。
- CuKα線を用いたX線回折計によって測定される前記発光部の<200>面の回折強度ピーク波形の半値幅が0.25°以下である、請求項1~3のいずれか一項に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲット。
- 請求項1~4のいずれか一項に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲットを製造する方法であって、
イットリウム(Y)の酸化物、スカンジウム(Sc)の酸化物、リン酸若しくはリン酸化合物、及び液体を含む混合物を作製する第1工程と、
前記液体を蒸発させる第2工程と、
前記混合物を焼成する第3工程と、
を含む、紫外光発生用ターゲットの製造方法。 - 前記第1工程において、ビスマス(Bi)の酸化物を更に含む前記混合物を作製する、請求項5に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲットの製造方法。
- 前記第1工程において、リン酸及びリン酸化合物を除くScの酸化物の混合割合を1.2質量%以上47.8質量%以下とする、請求項5または6に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲットの製造方法。
- 前記第3工程において、焼成温度を1050℃以上とする、請求項5~7のいずれか一項に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲットの製造方法。
- 請求項1~4のいずれか一項に記載の紫外光発生用ターゲットと、
前記発光部に前記電子線を照射する電子源と、
を備える、電子線励起紫外光源。
