Abstract

The present invention relates to a household appliance (1) comprising a panel (2), a control knob (3) provided on the panel (2), a display (5) placed on the panel (2), on which the programs selected by means of the control knob (3) are disposed, and a plurality of illumination means (6) provided on the display (5), each corresponding to a program, enabling illuminating the program selected by means of the control knob (3). A screen (4) is provided on the control knob (3) on which the sub-menus corresponding to the program disposed on the display (5) are displayed.

Description

A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE COMPRISING A SCREEN
The present invention relates to a household appliance comprising a screen.
Household appliances are provided with various features and programs to operate their functions. Among these, users can select the appropriate programs and the features they wish to use. In order for a user to be able to select a desired feature, all of these programs and features should be displayed to the user on a panel. Controlling is performed by means of screens, buttons and LEDs in the applications known in the art.
A household appliance is controlled by means of various components provided on a panel. Nowadays, the number of related components are increasing due to the growing number of programs and features provided with household appliances. This growth adversely affects the appearance of household appliances and complicates their usage. Solutions used to obviate this problem such as touch-operated screens, increase the costs of household appliances.
State of the art European patent application no. EP1008810 discloses a cooker appliance in which a cooking zone is controlled by means of control elements movable in two directions.
The aim of the present invention is to realize a household appliance providing ease of use.
The household appliance realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed in the first claim and the dependent claims, comprises a panel, a control knob provided on the panel, a display placed on the panel, on which the programs selected by means of the control knob are disposed, and a plurality of illumination means provided on the display, each corresponding to a program, enabling illuminating the program selected by means of the control knob. Preferably, the display is in a serigraphy form on which the related household appliance programs are disposed.
The household appliance of the invention comprises a screen provided on the control knob, on which is shown the sub-menus corresponding to the programs disposed on the display. Once one of the programs disposed on the display is selected by means of the control knob, the sub-menus corresponding to the selected program are displayed on the screen on the control knob. The household appliance preferably comprises a screen having LCD, TCT, LED or monochrome technology, which has a square, circular or octagonal shape, and which is a resistive or capacitive touch screen. In the household appliance which is preferably a washing machine, the main washing programs are shown on the display and the sub-menus of the washing program such as the number of revolutions, washing duration and the like, are shown on the screen.
In an embodiment of the invention, the household appliance comprises a control knob movable in horizontal and vertical directions, and a display surrounding the control knob. Programs are selected by moving the control knob, which is preferably joystick shaped, towards a program disposed on the display. Program selection can be enabled by software by configuring each control knob angle to correspond to a separate program. Once the determined program is selected, the sub-menus of the program are displayed on the screen disposed on the control knob and the settings are adjusted through said screen. When a desired feature is selected on the sub-menu, the user can conveniently make a desired adjustment by controlling the screen.
In another embodiment of the invention, program selection can be enabled algorithmically by means of control knob angles determined according to the display.
In another embodiment of the invention, the household appliance comprises a vibration motor provided in the control knob, enabling alerting the user by activating upon completion of program selection. The vibration motor enables vibrating the control knob in different frequencies as feedback to the user for completion of program selection and/or occurrence of an error.
In another embodiment of the invention, the household appliance comprises a LDR sensor positioned in the vicinity of the control knob, enabling detecting a user's hand. The LDR sensor positioned in the vicinity of the control knob, enables determining by which hand a user controls the control knob, and the visuals displayed on the screen can be changed according to the user.
In another embodiment of the invention, the illumination means comprise RGB LED. In this embodiment, each program disposed on the display is illuminated in a separate color. Thus, distinguishing separate programs is facilitated for the users.
The household appliance realized to achieve the aims of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

The household appliance (1) comprises a panel (2), a control knob (3) provided on the panel (2), a display (5) placed on the panel (2), on which the programs selected by means of the control knob (3) are disposed, and a plurality of illumination means (6) provided on the display (5), each corresponding to a program, enabling illuminating the program selected by means of the control knob (3) (Figure 1).
The household appliance (1) of the invention comprises a screen (4) provided on the control knob (3), on which is displayed the sub-menus corresponding to the programs disposed on the display (5). Once one of the programs disposed on the display (5) is selected by means of the control knob (3), the sub-menus corresponding to the selected program are displayed on the screen (4) on the control knob (3).
In an embodiment of the invention, the household appliance (1) comprises a control knob (3) movable in horizontal and vertical directions, and a display (5) surrounding the control knob (3). Programs are selected by moving the control knob (3) which is preferably movable in 360 degrees, towards a program disposed on the display (5). Program selection can be enabled by software by configuring each control knob (3) angle to correspond to a separate program. Once the determined program is selected, the sub-menus of the program are displayed on the screen (4) disposed on the control knob (3) and the settings are adjusted through said screen (4). When a desired feature is selected on the sub-menu, the user can conveniently make a desired adjustment by controlling the screen (4). After completing the adjustment of program settings, the appliance can be operated by using the screen (4) or the control knob (3).
In another embodiment of the invention, program selection can be enabled algorithmically by means of control knob (3) angles determined according to the display (5).
In another embodiment of the invention, the household appliance (1) comprises a vibration motor (7) provided in the control knob (3), enabling alerting the user by activating upon completion of program selection. The vibration motor (7) enables vibrating the control knob (3) in different frequencies as feedback to the user for completion of program selection and/or occurrence of an error.
In another embodiment of the invention, the household appliance (1) comprises an LDR sensor (8) positioned in the vicinity of the control knob (3), enabling detecting a user's hand. The LDR sensor (8) positioned in the vicinity of the control knob (3), enables determining by which hand a user controls the control knob (3), and the visuals displayed on the screen (4) can be changed according to the user.
In another embodiment of the invention, the illumination means (6) comprises RGB LED. In this case, a user can change the illumination color used on the display (5) by using the control knob (3) or the screen (4). This enables users to customize the household appliance (1).
In the household appliance (1) of the invention, convenience perception is enhanced and production costs are reduced by simplifying the panel (2) appearance and usage which have become more complex due to increased number of programs and features, by means of the 360 degrees movable control knob (3), the screen (4) provided on the control knob (3), the display (5) and the illumination means (6).

Claims (6)

  1. A household appliance (1) comprising a panel (2), a control knob (3) provided on the panel (2), a display (5) placed on the panel (2), on which the programs selected by means of the control knob (3) are disposed, and a plurality of illumination means (6) provided on the display (5), each corresponding to a program, enabling illuminating the program selected by means of the control knob (3), characterized by a screen (4) provided on the control knob (3), on which is displayed the sub-menus corresponding to the programs disposed on the display (5).
  2. A household appliance (1) according to claim 1, characterized by a control knob (3) movable in horizontal and vertical directions, and by the display (5) surrounding the control knob (3).
  3. A household appliance (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that, the program selection can be enabled algorithmically by the control knob (3) angles determined according to the display (5).
  4. A household appliance (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by a vibration motor (7) provided in the control knob (3), enabling alerting the user by activating upon completion of program selection.
  5. A household appliance (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by an LDR sensor (8) positioned in the vicinity of the control knob (3), enabling detecting a user's hand.
  6. A household appliance (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by the illumination means (6) comprising RGB LED.
