Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a foldable modular packaging, in particular of the Large Bulk Container (IBC) type, for the packaging and protection of various products.
  • the field of the invention is the handling, transport and storage of products.
  • IBCs are used for the packaging and protection of liquid, viscous or solid products, possibly with change of state and, by extension, powders and granulates.
  • the volumes concerned include the range of 50 to 1250 liters.
  • packagings In practice, the packagings must maintain their integrity over time, for normal use of storage and transport, associated with all usual climatic conditions, interior and exterior.
  • the packages currently available are constructed as rigid envelopes. They can be cylindrical or parallelepipedal, metal, sheet, or obtained by injection solutions, plastic blowing, in order to obtain complete volume shapes. They need to be manufactured in specialized units, then transported and stored empty, while occupying a large volume. As a result, the supply chain is negatively impacted.
  • the end-user of products packaged in IBCs must recycle, in the regulatory sense, with a new transport of these quasi-empty packaging, in order to eliminate what is considered waste for the whole body hollow. This results in a treatment of all the constituent materials of the package, with a significant implementation of energy and water quantity.
  • the packaging is reconditioned, with repair or refurbishment, for reuse. In case of ultimate destruction of the packaging, waste of the total mass of the hollow body is generated.
  • US5002194A discloses a collapsible modular package for the transport of liquids.
  • the package comprises six removable panels between a folded position, wherein the panels are stacked on each other, and an unfolded position, wherein the panels form a parallelepiped frame defining an interior volume.
  • the bottom panel has feet.
  • the package comprises a flexible inner container adapted to be disposed in the interior volume of the frame.
  • the container has a thin wall, so when it is filled with liquid, it can not support itself without the frame.
  • the container is equipped with reinforcements provided to support the legs of an upper package, during the stacking of several packages.
  • the package comprises an assembly system comprising connecting elements forming a pivot connection between each panel and at least one adjacent panel.
  • the container with the reinforcements When disassembling the package, the container with the reinforcements is removed by releasing one of the side panels or the top panel. The container is not retracted between the panels in the folded position. This complicates the handling and transport of the package, with the frame on one side and the container with reinforcements on the other side.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide an improved package, overcoming the above disadvantages.
  • the invention relates to a foldable modular packaging, characterized in that it comprises: at least four removable panels between a folded position, in which the panels are stacked on each other, and an unfolded position, wherein the panels form a parallelepiped frame defining an interior volume; a flexible inner container adapted to be disposed in said interior volume; and an assembly system comprising connecting elements forming a pivot connection between each panel and at least one adjacent panel.
  • the invention makes it possible to obtain a polyvalent, efficient and practical package to use, for all types of liquid, viscous or solid products, prior to their implementation.
  • the volume of the empty package is greatly reduced during the transport phases, and then waiting storage in a reserved space.
  • the packaging preserves the properties of all the material contained. Consequently, the invention makes it possible to secure transport and storage in all the usual situations and climatic conditions encountered.
  • the final geometry of the product can be obtained manually, without tools and with assembled components, defining an indissociable whole.
  • the panels are interchangeable.

Description

The present invention relates to a foldable modular packaging, in particular of the Large Bulk Container (IBC) type, for the packaging and protection of various products. The field of the invention is the handling, transport and storage of products.
In a known manner, IBCs are used for the packaging and protection of liquid, viscous or solid products, possibly with change of state and, by extension, powders and granulates. The volumes concerned include the range of 50 to 1250 liters.
In practice, the packagings must maintain their integrity over time, for normal use of storage and transport, associated with all usual climatic conditions, interior and exterior.
The packages currently available are constructed as rigid envelopes.
After use, the end-user of products packaged in IBCs must recycle, in the regulatory sense, with a new transport of these quasi-empty packaging, in order to eliminate what is considered waste for the whole body hollow. This results in a treatment of all the constituent materials of the package, with a significant implementation of energy and water quantity. The packaging is reconditioned, with repair or refurbishment, for reuse. In case of ultimate destruction of the packaging, waste of the total mass of the hollow body is generated.
US5002194A discloses a collapsible modular package for the transport of liquids. The package comprises six removable panels between a folded position, wherein the panels are stacked on each other, and an unfolded position, wherein the panels form a parallelepiped frame defining an interior volume. The bottom panel has feet. The package comprises a flexible inner container adapted to be disposed in the interior volume of the frame. The container has a thin wall, so when it is filled with liquid, it can not support itself without the frame. The container is equipped with reinforcements provided to support the legs of an upper package, during the stacking of several packages. The package comprises an assembly system comprising connecting elements forming a pivot connection between each panel and at least one adjacent panel. When disassembling the package, the container with the reinforcements is removed by releasing one of the side panels or the top panel. The container is not retracted between the panels in the folded position. This complicates the handling and transport of the package, with the frame on one side and the container with reinforcements on the other side.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved package, overcoming the above disadvantages.
To this end, the invention relates to a foldable modular packaging, characterized in that it comprises: at least four removable panels between a folded position, in which the panels are stacked on each other, and an unfolded position, wherein the panels form a parallelepiped frame defining an interior volume; a flexible inner container adapted to be disposed in said interior volume; and an assembly system comprising connecting elements forming a pivot connection between each panel and at least one adjacent panel.
Thus, the invention makes it possible to obtain a polyvalent, efficient and practical package to use, for all types of liquid, viscous or solid products, prior to their implementation. The volume of the empty package is greatly reduced during the transport phases, and then waiting storage in a reserved space. Once filled, the packaging preserves the properties of all the material contained. Consequently, the invention makes it possible to secure transport and storage in all the usual situations and climatic conditions encountered. The final geometry of the product can be obtained manually, without tools and with assembled components, defining an indissociable whole.

The packaging or IBC according to the invention is highly versatile, suitable for all situations in the field of handling, storage and transport of liquid-type products, viscous or solid after change of state, powders or aggregates.
According to the experiments of the Applicant, the space saving for an identical volume to be conditioned is a factor of 10. For example, a truck PL 100m 3 will carry 336 equivalent packaging of IBC of 1000 liters, instead of 52. Thus, the reduction of transport volumes for recycling and recovery is also possible; it is the same for spaces reserved for the storage of hollow bodies. It is important to note the decrease in the associated carbon impact.
Moreover, thanks to the use of the flexible container comprising a sealed inner layer, it is possible to reuse a large part of the packaging for another filling, replacing only the inner layer that has been in contact with the product.
Thus, savings in volume, weight and manner, as well as significant cost reductions, are possible thanks to the invention, during all the phases of packaging life: during handling, transport, storage and repackaging. Figures 1 to 13 show a foldable modular packaging (1) according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, with its constituent elements.
The package (1) comprises six panels (10), a flexible inner container (20), and an assembly system (30).
Les six panneaux (10) sont amovibles entre : The six panels (10) are removable between:
- une position pliée, dans laquelle les panneaux (10) sont empilés les uns par rapport aux autres, et  a folded position, in which the panels (10) are stacked with respect to each other, and
- An unfolded position, wherein the panels (10) form a frame (1 1) parallelepiped, cubic shape, defining a hollow interior volume (12). Each panel (10) is a grid made of wire. The position of the weft threads can be indifferent, crossed or alternating. The panels (10) can be assembled by welding, in contact with two son according to a gearing adapted to the forces, defined by the warp and weft thereof. The panels (10) are treated against corrosion, and have no roughness.
Preferably, the package (1) comprises six panels (10), which allows to form a closed cube on all sides in the unfolded position, thereby defining an envelope.
Alternatively, it is possible to implement only five or four panels (10), to form a cube open on some sides in unfolded position.
Advantageously, the panels (10) are interchangeable. This greatly simplifies the assembly of the package (1). In practice, it is not necessary to first find the bottom panel, then the side panels, then the top panel, to achieve this assembly using the connecting elements (31).
The flexible container (20) is adapted to be arranged in the interior volume (12) delimited by the panels (10), in the unfolded or folded position.
When the package (1) is unfolded, the container (20) deployed has a volume consistent with the volume (12) defined by the structure of the frame (11) assembled and deployed.
When the package (1) is folded, the container (20) is retracted between the panels (10). This greatly facilitates the handling and transport of the package (1), as compared to a package in which the folded frame and the container are separated.
The container (20) comprises at least two flexible layers, including an unsealed or impervious outer layer, and at least one sealed inner layer.
According to a preferred embodiment, the container (20) comprises an unsealed outer layer, for example a fabric web, and a sealed inner layer.
The container (20) can be made of Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP), Polyester (PET), Polyamide (PA), Aramid, fiberglass-based polymer, etc. The container (20), in particular the fabric, may comprise additives providing protection against ultraviolet radiation. The canvas can be made of woven wire and / or colored material. The constituent material of the inner layer is chosen to be inherently compatible with the packaged products. The container (20) comprises fastening means (21) to the frame (1 1) formed by the panels (10). These attachment means (21) may be fabric ties, solidarisant the container (20) with the panels (10) by knotting, thereby allowing a complete reversible connection.
The container (20) comprises manipulation means (22) by an operator. These handling means (22) may be fixed loops in the four upper corners of the container (20), More precisely, the loops are integral with the outer layer of the container (20).
The container (20) comprises at least one opening (24, 25) for filling or emptying the products. Preferably, the container (20) comprises an opening (24) in the upper part for filling, and an opening (25) in the lower part for emptying. The openings (24, 25) can be secured to the frame (11) via fasteners (35).
The package (1) may comprise sleeve-type or shutter-type openings in order to adapt the package (1) to liquid or solid products. Thus, the size of the openings is adapted to the intended use. These sleeves, or shutters, can be secured by devices like laces, scratch, zipper, buttoning, snaps, hooks, etc. The openings may be provided with sealed opening and closing members suitable for the packaged materials. For example, the lower opening (25) may be closable by a tap or plug (26), as shown in Figures 9 to 11.
The assembly system (30) comprises connecting elements (31) forming a pivot connection between each panel (10), and at least one adjacent panel (10).
Preferably, the connecting elements (31) form a 360 degree pivot connection between adjacent panels (10). The panels (10) can pivot on both sides, not just on one side. This greatly facilitates the handling of the panels (10) during assembly or disassembly of the package (1).
In the example of Figures 1 to 13, each of the connecting elements (31) is in the form of a helix (31 1), comprising a plurality of turns. The turns engage two adjacent panels (10) to provide a pivot connection between said panels (10). Preferably, a helix (311) is positioned at each edge between two adjacent panels (10). The propellers (311) are made of wire having a diameter and a number of variable turns, The propellers (311) ensure the fixed but reversible multipoint links between the six panels (10). The propellers (31 1) have dimensions adapted to this effect. The ends of the propellers (31 1) may be provided with an abutment shape to limit their stroke along the edges between the panels (10). The propeller (311) has the advantage of forming a fixed but removable connection without the use of tools.
Other forms of elements (31) can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention.
The assembly system (30) may include stiffeners (32) to secure the container (20) to the frame (1 1) and distribute the forces within the package (1). The container (20) may have gussets (27) constituting locations for positioning the stiffeners (32).
The assembly system (30) may comprise reinforcements (33) between the panels (10) of the frame (1 1).
In the figures, the reinforcements (33) are in the form of bars arranged diagonally in the four upper corners of the frame (1 1), at the loops (22). Each reinforcement (33) is integral with two adjacent side panels (10).
Alternatively, the reinforcements (33) can be arranged in the four upper corners and the lower four corners.
The assembly system (30) also comprises locking means (34) able to lock the frame (1 1) in the unfolded position.
As shown in Figures 1, 3 and 12, these locking means (34) may comprise a part with two perpendicular, L-shaped branches. This part has notches to cooperate with the son of the panels (10). This piece is positioned at an angle of the frame (1 1) and can bind three adjacent panels (10).
Alternatively, as shown in Figure 13, these locking means (34) may comprise a part formed of a single branch having notches. This piece is positioned at an angle or edge of the frame (1 1), and allows to link two panels (10) adjacent.
L’assemblage de l’emballage (1 ) est résumé ci-dessous : The package (1) comprises a lower frame (40) adapted to be interposed between a lower panel (10) of the package (1) and a standard handling pallet (50). The frame (40) has a lower face (41) comprising projecting elements (42) corresponding in size and position to skylights (51) of the pallet (50). The assembly of the package (1) is summarized below:
- le cadre (40) est positionné sur la palette (50) ;  the frame (40) is positioned on the pallet (50);
- un panneau (10) inférieur est fixé au cadre (40) ;  - a lower panel (10) is fixed to the frame (40);
- le récipient souple (20), plié, est disposé sur le panneau (10) inférieur ;  the folded flexible container (20) is arranged on the lower panel (10);
- les cinq autres panneaux (10) sont fixés au panneau (10) inférieur et entre eux grâce aux éléments de liaison (31 ) ;  the other five panels (10) are fixed to the lower panel (10) and to one another by virtue of the connecting elements (31);
- l’orifice de remplissage (24) est positionné au regard du panneau (10) supérieur du châssis (11 ).  the filling orifice (24) is positioned facing the upper panel (10) of the frame (11).
In its folded position, the package (1) can be easily stored and transported. The container (20) is retracted between the panels (10), so that the folded package (1) can be handled and transported as one piece.
To move to the unfolded position, the expansion of the panels (10) of the frame (1 1) is performed manually, by axial rotation clockwise or counterclockwise (FIG 5), and thus allows each panel (10) of the frame to be positioned (11) vis-à-vis the adjacent panels (10).
The inscribed volume of the panels (10) of the frame (1 1), at the end of the expansion, is for example a polyhedron or a rectangular parallelepiped. The flexible container (20) comprising at least two layers is also unfolded in synchronization with the panels (10). Fixing the flexible container (20) to the panels (10) is performed by the number of knotted links (21) required for the total expansion of the container (20) during unfolding.
The packaging (1) is modular, in the sense that the panels (10), the container (20) and the frame (40) are in the form of separate modules, assembled through the assembly system (30).
La figure 15 montre une pluralité d’emballages (1A, 1 B, 1 C, 1 D, 1 E) de différentes dimensions : Figure 14 shows an alternative connecting elements (31) forming a pivot connection between two panels (10). The elements (31) are in the form of rings (312) distributed along the hinge between the panels (10), defined by the common director between the panels (10). The rings (312) form clips initially open, and reclosable in turn by plastic deformation along the panels (10). Once closed, the rings (312) form loops providing the pivot connection between the panels (10). FIG. 15 shows a plurality of packages (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E) of different dimensions:
l’emballage (1A) est un parallélépipède rectangle définissant un volume de 60 litres ; l’emballage (1 B) est un cube définissant un volume de 120 litres ;  the package (1A) is a rectangular parallelepiped defining a volume of 60 liters; the package (1 B) is a cube defining a volume of 120 liters;
l’emballage (1 C) est un parallélépipède rectangle définissant un volume de 225 litres ; l’emballage (1 D) est un cube définissant un volume de 500 litres ;  the package (1 C) is a rectangular parallelepiped defining a volume of 225 liters; the package (1 D) is a cube defining a volume of 500 liters;
The packages (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E) can be positioned in different ways on the same standard pallet (50), for example a pallet CP3 of width 1140 mm and length 1140 mm, occupying a surface area strictly smaller than that of the pallet (50).
The package (1 E) of cubic shape corresponds to the package (1) of Figures 1 to 13, intended to be arranged alone on a pallet (50) standard.
Thus, the packaging (1) can be in different sizes, similar or slightly different constructions, according to a range suitable for all types of applications.
The invention provides a first level of modularity for the construction of each package (1), and a second level of modularity for the arrangement of different packages (1) on a storage and transport unit, standard or not, such as a pallet (50), a container, a trailer, etc.

According to another variant not shown, the connecting elements (31) may comprise a ligation wire, arranged along the hinge between two panels (10). According to another variant not shown, the panels (10) may be made of hollow section of different section, metal, or any other material. According to another variant not shown, the panels (10) are identical. This simplifies their manufacture and their assembly.
In a first mode, the panels (10) do not have holes for the openings (24, 25) of the container (20). When the container (20) is positioned in the interior (12), the mesh of the panels (20) can be cut to fit the position of the openings (24, 25).
In a second embodiment, all the panels (10) have holes in the center and on an edge, adapted to receive the openings (24, 25) of the container (20).
According to another variant not shown, the package (1) may be devoid of frame (40) for attachment to the pallet (50).
In addition, the technical characteristics of the various embodiments and variants mentioned above may be, in whole or in part, combined with one another. Thus, the package can be adapted in terms of costs, features and performance.
