  • C is an element effective for increasing the material strength by strengthening solid solution, but when it is excessive, it easily bonds with carbide forming elements such as Cr, which is effective for corrosion resistance at the ferrite-austenite phase boundary, thereby reducing the corrosion resistance by lowering the Cr content around the grain boundary. Therefore, the content of C is limited to 0.05% or less. In order to minimize the risk of carbide precipitation which may impair corrosion resistance, it is more preferable that the content of C is made 0.03% or less.
  • Cr, Mo, and W are ferrite phase stabilizing elements that play a major role in securing the ferrite phase of duplex stainless steel, and are essential basic elements for securing high corrosion resistance. Increasing the content increases the corrosion resistance but increases the content of the austenite stabilizing elements to maintain the phase fraction, and there is a disadvantage that the cost rises and the hot workability decreases, limiting the content range as follows for each element.
  • the sediment controllable Cr content for securing seawater corrosion resistance and plate production is limited to 24.5 to 32.5%.
  • W and Mo are stronger corrosion resistance improving elements than Cr.

  • Mo is limited to 2.0 to 4.0% and W to 2.5 to 4.5% in consideration of the range 35 to 55 of the crevice corrosion resistance constant K value. For example, it is more preferable to set Mo to 2.3 to 2.8% and W to 3.0 to 3.5%.

  • the chlorine atmosphere there is a disadvantage in reducing the formal resistance and hot workability to limit the Cu content to 2.0% or less.

  • N is preferably 0.30 to 0.45%.
  • N is a useful element capable of improving the corrosion resistance in the chlorine atmosphere, as well as increasing the strength, which is an advantage of the duplex stainless steel.
  • the N content is preferably limited to 0.25 to 0.45% in consideration of Cr, Mo and W content to ensure corrosion resistance of seawater. For example, it is more preferable to make N 0.30 to 0.45%.
  • Si 1.0% or less (excluding 0)
  • Si is essentially contained in a certain amount as important elements used as deoxidizer in the production of duplex stainless steel.
  • Si which also acts as a ferrite-phase stabilizing element, is limited to 1.0% or less since it promotes precipitation of intermetallic compounds and degrades mechanical properties related to impact toughness. For example, it is more preferable to make Si 0.15 to 0.7%.

Description

EIRD - EITD ≤ 3.0 ------
