DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Having described the main features of the invention above, a more detailed and non-limiting description of a preferred embodiment will be given in the following paragraphs with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In all the figures, like reference numerals represent like features. Further, the shape, size and number of the devices shown are by way of example only and it is within the scope of the present invention to change their shape, size and number without departing from the basic principle of the invention.
Further, when in the following it is referred to "top", "bottom", "upward", "downward", "above" or "below" , "right hand side", "left hand side" and similar terms , this is strictly referring to an orientation with reference to the apparatus , where the base of the apparatus is horizontal and is at the bottom portion of the figures. The number of components shown is exemplary and not restrictive and it is within the scope of the invention to vary the shape and size of the apparatus as well as the number of its components, without departing from the principle of the present invention.
All through the specification including the claims, the technical terms and abbreviations are to be interpreted in the broadest sense of the respective terms, and include all similar items in the field known by other terms, as may be clear to persons skilled in art. Restriction or limitation if any referred to in the specification, is solely by way of example and understanding the present invention. The commonly known carrom board has four pockets in which a fixed number of coins are dropped according to well established playing rules and the winner or the winning team is decided. The present invention, however, discloses an entirely new approach. The novel board and the games havethe following features:
1 . Size of board is bigger than a carrom board.
2. There are 8 pockets on the board.
3. The shape of board is Octagon.
4. Centre design and arrangement of coins is different.
5. Coin colours are all different and the number of coins used in each game varies.
6. 9 different games can be played using this board.
Now the creative games that have been invented and can be played on this board are described below.
GENERAL RULES FOR ALL THE GAMES : Striker to be placed on base line at the time of strike. The striker is used to pocket coins.
Referring to figure 1 , the game of "Cricket" is played as under:
The board is set as shown in figure 1 .
1 -10 Red Coins and 1 -10 black coins are used to play Cricket.
- Teams decide which team is batting and which is bowling.
Red coins are Batsmen
Black coins are fielders/bowlers
Batting team will pocket black coins as many as possible to collect runs.
Black coins will return to the board after adding runs to score.
- Bowling team will pocket Red coins aka wickets.
- After all Red coins are pocketed, total scored of runs is added up.
Teams will now switch sides (i.e. bowling team will bat and batting team will bowl) .
Team with highest runs wins.
Runs are awarded based on the pocket coins are pocketed in.
- Home shot =2 runs,
- 2nd pocket= 3 runs - 3rd pocket=4 runs
- opposite pocket= 6 runs
Method:
Players toss to decide who become the Batting team and the Bowling team.
The batsman tries to pocket the black coins to score runs. Black coins are returned to the board once runs are added to the score.
The bowler tries to pocket all red coins and get all the 10 batsmen out.
Once all the RED coins have been pocketed by the bowler, count the number of runs the batsman has scored. Now the players reverse their roles and play again.
Whoever scores the maximum amount of runs is the winner.
PENALTIES - BATTING TEAM PENALTY - If the batsman puts the RED coin in the pocket it's a RUN OUT.
BOWLING TEAM PENALTY - if the bowler puts the BLACK coin in the pocket it's a NO BALL. 6 runs will be granted to the batting team. Figure 2a, 2b and 2c show the placement of coins for the game "Rainbow" for two players, three players and four players respectively. Depending upon the number of players, sets of coins are changed as under. Each set of coins has 7 coins. The sets are required to be of different colours. For 4 players, use 4 sets of each colour.
For 3 players, use 3 sets of each colour.
For 2 players, use 2 sets of each colour.
The coins are to be arranged as shown in figures 2a to 2c, not keeping any two colours together.
Method:
Level 1 : Players decide who will start the game.
Player keeps playing till he misses a pocket, then the next player gets a turn. If the coin flies out of the board, it should be placed back in the centre of the board.
If the striker goes in the pocket it's a penalty. Player has to put one of his own coins that he has pocketed back in the board. If the player has not yet pocketed a coin, he owes it and he has to put it in whenever he pockets it.
If a player pockets 2 same colour coins, it's a penalty. Player has to replace the pocketed coin and add 1 of his own coins back on the board.
The first player to get all the 7 colours of the rainbow is the winner.
Level 2:
Players have to pocket coins as per VIBGYOR sequence (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red)
All above rules apply.1 st person completing VIBGYOR wins.
Figure 3 shows the coin placement for playing "Pairs".
Numbered coins 1 -10 are in Red and Black colours.
The board is arranged as per figure 3. The arrangement is same for 2-4 players. PAIRS Method:
Players decide who will start the game.
Use the striker to pocket the coins. Players have to collect the coins in pairs. Player keeps playing till he misses a pocket then next player gets a turn. If coin flies out, it should be placed in the centre of the board. If the striker goes in the pocket, player has to put one of his pocketed coins back on the board.
The winner is the one who collects the maximum number of pairs.
Figure 4 shows the coins arrangement for playing "Race to 16".
Coins : 7Black and 17 Red.
Black Coins = 2 points each.
Red Coins = 1 point each.
Arrange the board as per the diagram.
Method:
Players decide who should start the game. The striker is used to pocket coins. A player keeps playing till he misses a pocket. Then the next player gets a turn.
If the coin flies out of the board it should be placed back in the centre of the board. If the striker goes in the pocket it's a penalty.
The first person who gets a total of 16 points and above is the winner.
Figure 5 shows the arrangement for "Collect maximum point" which is suitable for 2-4 players. Numbered Coins : 1 - 10 in Black and Red. Value of each coins is as per the number on that particular coin. Method:
Players decide who will start the game.
Use the striker to pocket the coins. Players have to collect the coins in pairs. Player keeps playing till he misses a pocket then next player gets a turn.
If coin flies out, it should be placed in the centre of the board. If the striker goes in the pocket, player has to put one of his pocketed coins back on the board. The winner is the person who gets the maximum points.
Figure 6 shows the arrangement for the game "Poker" which is also suitable for 2-4 players. Cards - 10 Red and 10 Black
Numbered coins - 1 -10 in Red and Black The board is arranged as shown.
Method:
Divide counters equally by colour to each player. Players decide who will start the game. Use the striker to pocket coins. Player keeps playing till a pocket is missed. Then the next player gets a turn.
Each player puts a counter in the kitty. Shuffle cards and distribute 3 cards to each player. PLAYERS DO NOT DISCLOSE OR REVEAL THEIR CARDS. Value of the hands are as listed below:
Non Connected Cards (Eg. No.3 Black, No. 7 Red, No. 9 Red) = 1 point
Pair [2 cards of same no. but different colour. Eg. No.8 Black, No. 4 Red, No. 4 Black] = 2 point Colour[any number, same colour. Eg. No.5 Red, No.8 Red, No.9 Red] = 3 points
Run Mixed Colour(Eg. No. 4 Red, No.5 Black, No. 6 Red) = 4 pointRun Same Colour(E.g. No. 4 Black, No. 5 Black, No. 6 Black) = 5 points
(Flush) Run Mixed Colour (E.g. No.1 Red, No. 2 Red, No. 3 Black) = 6 pointRoyal Flush (Eg. No.1 , No. 2, No.3 all same colour) = 7 point Players can decide whether they want to play after seeing their cards. If they choose to see, they put 2 more counters in the kitty. Once the players have decided to play, they will each try to pocket the corresponding coin number and colour to their cards. The players can open their cards on the table after pocketing the coin of that number and colour if they choose to. The winner is the player who pockets all 3 coins matching to their cards first and wins the kitty. The winner also collects additional counters from EACH PLAYER matching o the value listed above.
Figure 7 shows the arrangement for "Snooker" which is suitable for 2-4 players.
In this game, placing of coloured coins as shown in this drawing depends upon the starting player (to be played in teams).
Coins: 16 Red and 6 mixed colours.
The board is set according to the diagram shown. The striker is used to pocket coins.
Method:
Players decide who will start the game. A player keeps playing till a pocket is missed and then the next player gets a turn.
If the coin flies out of the board, it should be placed back in the centre of the board.
The player has to pocket a red coin before he can pocket a coloured coin. All points are to be added to the player's tally. The player has to nominate the colour which he intends to pocket.
If the player misses the nominated colour or pockets a colour not of his nomination, the player loses the points equivalent to the nominated colour to the opposite team and non nominated coloured coin must be placed back in its original spot.
Once the player pockets a nominated coloured coin, the points must be added to the total and the coloured coin must return to its original placement.
Continue playing till all RED COINS have been pocketed. The player who pockets the last RED COIN can pocket the coloured coins in the following order: YELLOW GREEN ORANGE BLUE PINK BLACK
If the player misses a shot, the next player gets a turn till all coloured coins are pocketed. Points are added up and the player with the highest points wins. PENALTIES:
If a player is aiming for a Red coin and he misses it is considered 4 away and 4 points are awarded to the opponents team.
If the striker hits a coloured coin by mistake, the value of the coloured coin will be awarded to the opponents team.
If the striker is pocketed, it is also considered 4 away and points will be awarded to the opponents team.
Value of the
Coins:
RED = 1 point BLACK = 7 points PINK = 6 points BLUE = 5 points
BROWN = 4 points GREEN = 3 points YELLOW = 2 points
Figure 8 shows the novel Octagon board (1 ) according to the present invention. The board has been provided with eight pockets (2). Four base lines (3) and novel central design (4) are also provided to facilitate the unique coin placements described above. This board (1 ) is suitable for playing all the creative games described above.
Figure 9 shows the arrangement for the game "Word Builder" which is suitable for 2-4 players.
Method:
