L'invention concerne un système (100) permettant de manipuler des articles de type bagages ou colis, comme au niveau d'installations de triage d'aéroport, et comprenant un transporteur de tri principal (102) pour transporter les articles vers des positions de déchargement (104). Des premières sections tampon d'article (108) sont prévues au niveau de chacune des positions de déchargement (104), chaque section tampon d'article (108) comprenant une pluralité de premières étagères pour stocker, réguler ou accumuler une pluralité d'articles sur chaque étagère. Un transporteur de raccordement (114) s'étendant le long des extrémités de sortie des premières sections tampon d'article (108) est prévu pour transporter des articles vers au moins une seconde section tampon d'article (116). Au niveau de la seconde section tampon d'article (116), les articles sont déchargés dans des chariots (124) pour leur transport vers des avions.
