Abstract

A method and apparatus for batch processing of feces through radiant heating using electricity, liquid fuel or solid fuel for a urine diverting toilet (UDT). The feces is stored in a container until transfer to a processing chamber. The processing chamber has a retention chamber for holding the feces, a compression plate and a heat source compartment housing multiple radiant heating light bulbs powered by electricity, liquid fuel (Petromax lantern bulb) or lighted solid fuel. The feces is first compressed and then heated with or without air circulation to heat and dehydrate the feces. Preferably, a mixer with a radiant heating light bulb inside is used. Urine is transferred to a storage container and, optionally, heated to destroy pathogens and moisture reduced by adding adsorbents. Mechanical energy is generated from user's body weight for automated operations and soil amendments produced can be quality tested akin to industrial manufacturing methods.
