Definitions
- the invention relates generally to antennas, and in particular to an integrated antenna device.
- a sonar antenna comprises an acoustic base consisting of a set of stacked transducers providing reception and / or emission of acoustic signals and mounted on a support.
- Such sonar antennas are generally placed in a sealed dome to mechanically protect the antennas in particular against shocks, the forces due to the flow of water, the effects of cavitation, corrosion, etc.
- the dome is usually filled with an acoustically adapted liquid.
- the sonar antennas are optionally suspended from the hull at the level of the transducer support to dampen the rapid movements of the surface building, while the protective dome is also fixed to the surface building in a rigid manner, for example bolting.
- Such an assembly must be made in dry dock to ensure the tightness of the naval building and the dome. It also requires mounting the sonar antenna before the dome, to suspend the antenna and rigidly fix the dome to the hull.
- FIG. 1 schematically represents a surface building 1 on which a sonar antenna 2 and its protective dome 20 are mounted.
- the surface building constructors must provide in the building phase of the surface building a passage 21 in order to be able to reassemble the cables.
- the set of cables 22 ensuring the power supply of the antenna and the reception of the signals is reassembled to the platform of the surface building which is above the water line, through the passage 21.
- the sonar antenna 2 and the protective dome 20 are initially brought separately in the vicinity of the lower opening 210 of the passage 21 to be successively mounted on the hull of the surface building.
- the mounting of the antenna and the dome requires several sealing elements which are also used to seal the assembly (surface building, antenna, dome) on at least two levels, among which:
- a first sealing plate 23 mounted at the lower opening 210 of the passage 21 on which is mounted the antenna 2 by means of fastening elements and / or suspension of the antenna 3;
- a second sealing plate 24 mounted at the upper opening 212 of the passage 21 which opens on the platform 25 of the surface building; this second sealing plate 24 thus provides a double sealing barrier with respect to the platform 25;
- a plurality of cable glands or plug-and-socket pairs 26 arranged at each sealing plate 23 and 24 for sealing the passage of each cable 22;
- the protective dome thus provides a dual function. On the one hand, it comes to ensure the protection of the sonar antenna 2. On the other hand, it indirectly ensures the sealing of the surface building 1 itself. Thus, in the absence of the dome and the sealing plate 23, the passage 21 provided in the surface building lets the water pass. The surface building can not be launched until the dome 20 is mounted. Therefore, the assembly comprising the sonar antenna 2, the dome 20, the cables 22 and the sealing elements 23, 24, 26, 27, 28 must necessarily be mounted in a dry environment.
- the sealing elements may by construction be defective, which is a complex and long operation, further delaying the launching of the surface building.
- the antenna 2 and its cables are mounted first by suspension of the antenna and positioning of the cables in the passage 21, then the dome is fixed rigidly to the shell for example by bolting.
- the cables can then be connected to a power source at the platform 25.
- the clearance available under the surface building is generally less than 2 meters, it is also necessary to provide a pit in the bottom of the down.
- the dome Before mounting the antenna, the dome is pre-positioned in the pit to be fixed on the shell after the suspension of the antenna. The acoustically adapted liquid can then be injected into the dome. The leak tests are carried out as and when mounting.
- Such an assembly is complex and restrictive, in particular because it can be achieved only in dry-zone installations with specific and expensive equipment (dry-dock). In particular, it does not allow to change the antenna in full water.
- the surface building in the event of a malfunction, the surface building must be brought back to the dry zone to access the antenna, repeating all the steps of the assembly process. This results in a long immobilization of the surface building (displacement of the surface building, intervention in dry dock with disassembly and assembly of the new antenna in several stages, numerous electrical tests and verification of tightness as and when mounting) .
- such a sonar antenna protection assembly requires the provision of a complex configuration passage (21) in the surface building to receive all the sealing elements 23, 24, 26, 27 and 28, which constitutes a significant constraint in the construction phase of the surface building.
- the sealing elements between the interfaces between the antenna, the dome and the surface building (26, 27, 28) require regular monitoring and maintenance. related to criticality in terms of the risk of entry of water for the surface building.
- the invention improves the situation.
- an integrated antenna device comprising a hydrodynamic shaped protective envelope delimiting an inner cavity and an upper fixing interface capable of being fixed mechanically to a supporting structure.
- the device further comprises an antenna housed inside the tank and fixed to the inner wall of the casing at at least one attachment point, a set of cables comprising power supply and reception cables. signals connected to the sonar antenna.
- the protective envelope is hermetically sealed and sealed through the cables.
- the envelope may comprise a lower dome and a closure plate sealingly connected to one another by means of connecting elements.
- the dome may have a circular drum shape or streamlined hydrodynamic shape.
- the cavity may comprise a protective liquid in which the sonar antenna bathes, the protective liquid being chosen to ensure the acoustic adaptation of the antenna.
- the fluid may be a nonionic fluid.
- the nonionic fluid may in particular be an oil.
- the protective liquid can be pressurized by applying a chosen set pressure.
- the protective envelope may comprise a pressurizing nozzle, while the protective liquid is pressurized by means of a pressurization pump connected to the pressurization nozzle by a pressurization pipe.
- the antenna may be a sonar antenna.
- the invention further provides a carrier structure for receiving the antenna device, the carrier structure being intended to be at least partially immersed, the carrier structure comprising a platform configured to be emerged above a water level and a bottom wall.
- the supporting structure comprises a chimney crossing the bottom wall of the structure and opening onto the platform, the chimney having a lower opening at the bottom wall of the structure and an upper opening above the water level, the chimney having a cross-section of selected dimensions, while the attachment interface of the antenna device is adapted to be attached to the bottom wall of the surface building structure at the lower opening of the chimney, the chimney being configured to allow the passage of the cables emerging from the antenna device to the platform of the supporting structure.
- the supporting structure may comprise an adaptation piece provided at the level of the lower opening of the chimney conforming to the shape of the bottom wall of the structure at the level of the lower opening of the chimney, the fixing interface of the device antenna being adapted to be fixed on the adaptation piece.
- the invention further proposes a method of mounting an integrated antenna device on a supporting structure comprising a platform emerging above a water level, a bottom wall and a chimney crossing the bottom wall and opening on the platform, the chimney having a lower opening at the bottom wall and an upper opening above the water level.
- the method advantageously comprises the following steps: providing an antenna device comprising a hydrodynamic shaped protective envelope delimiting an internal cavity, the device further comprising an antenna housed inside the tank, a set of cables comprising power supply and reception cables, signals connected to the antenna, the protective envelope being hermetically closed and sealed through the cables,
- the method may further include the steps of:
- the positioning step of the antenna device comprising the step of positioning the antenna device in the vicinity of the fixing interface of the bottom wall of the structure while the fixing step comprises fixing the device antenna to the bottom wall of the structure by mechanically connecting the attachment interface of the antenna device to the fixing interface provided on the bottom wall of the carrier structure.
- the invention thus provides an antenna device integrated in a closed and hermetic protective envelope, which can be filled with a liquid and pressurized.
- This antenna device can be mounted in a single block on any structure intended to be immersed such as a marine platform (surface building, submarine, etc.) and in any environment (dry, full water, docked) , etc.) without the need for special tooling or for sealing verification after assembly. Fixing the device to a naval structure only requires a fixing interface. Moreover, such a device can be easily disassembled regardless of the environment where the carrier structure is for example to replace the antenna in case of failure (for example in open water). Disassembly of the device does not require bringing the structure in dry zone and can be performed in short time, which limits the immobilization of the structure.
- the mounting on the shell of the surface building does not require validation of the tightness of the interface between the antenna device and the shell, which reduces the resources required for the mounting phase and optimizes the time of mounting.

- FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating the disassembly of the sonar antenna device in open water, according to some embodiments.
- Fig. 2 is a diagram showing an example of a structure 10 on which an integrated antenna device 3 can be mounted, according to some embodiments.
- the integrated antenna device 3 can be mounted on any fixed or mobile structure 10, intended to be immersed at least partially in water (for example in open water), such as for example a floating or anchored marine platform or a building of area.
- the structure 10 may in particular comprise a platform emerging above the water level 5 (also called “water line” hereinafter).

- the antenna 31 may be a sonar antenna.
- the remainder of the description will be made with reference to a sonar antenna type antenna as a non-limiting example (the integrated antenna device 3 will also be designated hereinafter "integrated sonar antenna).
- the shape of the envelope 300 may be chosen to optimize the navigation of the support structure and may in particular be profiled.

- the following description will be made with reference to a structure 10 of surface building type to as an illustration.
- the envelope 300 may comprise, on its upper part, a fixing interface intended to be fixed on the shell 100 of the surface building 10.
- the envelope 300 may comprise a dome 30 of hydrodynamic shape, made in one or more parts and a closure plate 33 connected to the dome in a sealed manner.
- the envelope may have an open shell shape whose wall is made in one piece.
- the closing plate 33 thus forms the upper wall of the casing 300 while the dome 30 delimits the periphery of the internal cavity which houses the sonar antenna 31.
- the dome 30 can be made from a very strong material mechanically and acoustically transparent, in the frequency band used, such as a fiberglass composite.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 is mounted in a single block on the hull 100 of a surface building 10.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 can thus be mounted on the hull 100 at by means of a single fixing interface provided on the top of the casing 300, which avoids having to fix the antenna separately on the surface building.
- the mounting of the antenna 31 directly in the casing 300 thus makes it possible to eliminate an interface with the carrier structure with respect to conventional embodiments.
- the sonar antenna 31 may be a passive or active antenna mounted on a support.
- the sonar antenna 31 may for example be a cylindrical antenna formed of columns of transducers mounted on the support.
- the transducers can provide transmission and / or reception of acoustic signals.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 may comprise in particular a set of cables 35 including power cables 350 connected to the antenna 31.
- the power cables are configured to be connected to one or more power sources provided on the platform of the surface building 10 above its water line to feed the antenna 30.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 is arranged to allow the sealed passage of the cables 35 outside the device.

- the carrier structure 10 may comprise a chimney 37 passing through the shell 100 to the platform of the structure above the water line to allow the passage of the cables 35 from the antenna device integrated sonar 3 to the water line.
- the chimney 37 passes through the bottom wall of the structure 10 and opens onto the emerged platform.
- the chimney 37 may thus comprise a lower opening 370 at the bottom wall and an upper opening 371 above the water level 5.
- the chimney 37 may have a section of very small dimensions relative to the dimensions of the wall. the cross section of the envelope 300 on its upper part.
- the section of the chimney 37 may have dimensions of the order of a few centimeters only.
- the length of the chimney 37 depends on the position of the water line of the surface building.
- the cables 35 may be connected to a connector located outside the chimney 37 below the water line.
- Such connectors are then configured for an underwater connection and the chimney 37 includes a cable outlet to such a connector.
- the following description will be made with reference to a chimney delimiting a cable outlet above the water line by way of non-limiting example.
- the chimney 37 may in particular be configured to rise sufficiently above the waterline of the support structure 10 and allow the use of a single chimney closure device.
- the chimney 37 may be directly integrated with the carrier structure 10 by construction or form a separate element integrated at any time to the supporting structure.
- the structure of the chimney 37 is thus compact and easy to construct.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 thus reduces the constraints necessary for the interface with the surface building.
- an adaptation piece 39 can be fixed between the antenna device 3 and the shell 100 of the surface building 30 at the lower end of the chimney 37 to adapt the antenna device 3 to the shape of the hull 100.

- the adapter piece 39 has a generally elliptical section.
- FIG. 4 is an exploded view of the integrated sonar antenna device 3 and the interface elements between the device 3 and the surface building 10.
- the shell 100 of the surface building 10 is not illustrated. to simplify the representation.
- FIG. 4 illustrates the small dimensions of the section of the chimney 37 with respect to the antenna device 3.
- the antenna 31 is represented in transparency in the hollow of the dome 30.
- adaptation piece 39 base
- the closure plate 33 can be connected to the adaptation piece 39, previously fixed to the shell, by means of elements
- the fastening elements 34 between the antenna device 3 and the adapter part 39 may be of any type, such as, for example, conjugated locking elements or a fastening device adapted to ensure rapid attachment. and effective between the hull 100 and the integrated sonar antenna device 3 (for example by snapping).
- the fastening elements 34 may be made in the form of a connector provided on the lower end of the chimney and configured to connect to a conjugate connector provided on the fastening interface of the liner. 300, the connection being able to be mechanical and / or electrical with the cables 35.
- a connector system can thus ensure the mechanical and electrical connection of the envelope.
- such a connector can be adapted for the implementation of an underwater connection.
- Such a connector also makes it possible to prevent upwellings in the chimney 37 (sealing function); It also makes it possible to connect the cables, without it being necessary to reassemble the cables 35 in the chimney.
- the integrated sonar antenna device thus forms an all-in-one hermetic block including the sonar antenna and its protection dome 30. Such a block can be mounted and dismounted on the hull 100 of the surface building quickly, without it is necessary to provide a significant preparation time, with very simple tools.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 can be quickly operational by coming to fix it on the shell of the surface building 10 at the single attachment interface.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 may be pre-filled with a protective liquid 32 in which the antenna 31 bathes to limit the effects of cavitation.
- the antenna device 3 can be filled with the protective liquid after mounting.
- a second pipe drain pipe
- Such a liquid makes it possible to ensure the acoustic adaptation of the antenna by having a low absorption.
- the liquid may be water or a non-ionic liquid, for example oil.
- the closed and hermetic envelope 300 makes it possible to choose the fluid to optimize the operation and the lifetime of the network of transmit and receive sensors (transducers) of the sonar antenna 31, which is not possible with the classic solutions.
- the protective liquid 32 may be a nonionic filling fluid, such as an oil.
- the integrated mounting of the dome 30 and the antenna 31 into a sealed all-in-one assembly makes it possible to pre-fill the envelope with oil, without it being necessary to carry out the operation of filling the envelope in dry dock and once the dome installed.
- the use of oil as a dome filling liquid has several other advantages. It eliminates corrosion problems, strongly limits the cavitation phenomena, and makes it possible to immerse the electro-acoustic or magnetoacoustic or optico-acoustic transduction elements of the antenna 31 (piezoelectric sensors for example), the electronic cards and the points of internal connections to the acoustic base of the antenna without it being necessary to provide additional electrical insulation protection. Its density can be chosen so as to obtain a chosen level of buoyancy of the whole the antenna device 3, such as a substantially neutral level of buoyancy.
- a set pressure can be applied to the acoustic base of the sonar antenna 31 to pressurize the fluid. Pressurisation allows:
- the dome 30 and the closure plate 33 may have a thickness chosen accordingly.
- the closed and hermetic envelope 300 makes it possible to apply such a setpoint pressure by inflation.
- the casing may have a pressurizing tip 330.
- the cable assembly 35 may further include a pressurizing pipe 351 connected to the pressurizing tip 330 provided on top of the envelope, out of the attachment interface.
- the pressurizing nozzle can thus be used to pressurize, and in particular over-pressurization, the protective liquid 32 which bathes the integrated sonar antenna device 3 and prevent possible water ingress.
- the pressurization can be carried out after the mounting of the antenna device 3 by means of a pressurization pump provided on the platform of the surface building 10, above the water line.
- An operator can connect the pressurizing pump to the pressurizing tip 330 via the pressurizing pipe 351, after mounting the integrated sonar antenna device 3, and the passage of the cables through the chimney 37.
- the pipe pressurization 351 is connected to the antenna device 3 before presenting it on the carrier structure 10, and to be threaded into the chimney 37 as for the other cables 35. This then remains compatible with a small diameter chimney).
- the casing 300 can then be inflated under pressure by actuating the pressurization pump connected to the pressurizing nozzle via the cable 351.
- the closed and hermetic envelope 300 of the integrated sonar device thus makes it possible to apply a set pressure to the acoustic base of the sonar antenna 31 by inflation.
- the set pressure can be chosen in particular to put the envelope over-pressurization.
- the envelope 300 may comprise other pressurizing elements such as a device for compensating the thermal expansion of the filling fluid.
- the pressurizing pipe 351 may also be used to fill the fluid shell 300 (eg oil).
- An exhaust pipe, similar to the pressurizing pipe 351, can then be provided.
- Such integrated sonar antenna device 3 offers the advantage of being able to be mounted on the surface building, in any environment whether in open water, factory, or dry dock.
- the tightness of the integrated sonar antenna device 3 can be tested well before it is mounted on the carrier structure 10 and independently of it. In addition, it does not require regular verification thereafter, which simplifies the maintenance of the integrated sonar antenna device 3 after mounting on the carrier structure.
- the necessary sealing points associated with the mounting of the integrated sonar antenna device 3 are also greatly reduced. It is no longer necessary to provide a second level of tightness on the upper part of the surface building by means of an additional sealing plate, or glands or set of couples plugs-bases in the chimney to seal the passage of the cables.
- such an integrated sonar antenna device 3 waterproof incorporating the sonar antenna and the protective envelope 300 in one single block simplifies the construction of the surface building.
- the chimney 37 can be obtained by a simple pipe of small diameter ensuring the passage of the cables without further impacting the construction of the complex structure.
- the chimney 37 can be easily protected against rising water in the absence of the antenna device 3 by mounting a "plug" plate in the lower opening 370 of the chimney 37.
- a plate- plug is configured to prevent the sudden rise of water in the chimney and provide protection against sea packets, which allows the establishment of the surface building in open water before mounting the device 3.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 can be mounted in any environment (dry zone or full water) without specific development or complex installation.
- dry dock it is not necessary to provide a pit in addition to the clearance present under the hull of the building surface.
- the antenna device 3 being mounted in one block, a small clearance of 1 or 2 meters is sufficient to perform the mounting operation.
- Figure 5 shows the method of mounting the device, for example at the dock or dry.
- step 500 the sonar antenna device 3 is brought together in a single pre-assembled block near the hull of the surface building 10, facing the chimney 37, for example by means of a rolling support such as a pallet truck in the embodiments where the mounting is performed on a dry support structure 10.
- the antenna device 3 can be pre-filled with the liquid 32 adapted acoustically (oil or water for example).
- the cables 35 of the device 3 can be previously wound on a strand and then positioned and reassembled in the chimney 37 through the opening 370 using a "cable puller" type device to thread the cable strand 35 into the chimney.
- step 501 the integrated sonar antenna device 3 is fixed to the adaptation piece 39, previously mounted on the shell at the lower opening 370 of the chimney 37, for example by hooking, using the connection means 34.
- the pressurizing pipe 351 is connected to the pressurizing pump.
- the envelope 300 is pressurized by inflation.
- the cables 35 may be connected by the operator to the power source.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 thus forms an all-in-one system, requiring a very short mounting time compared to the solutions of the prior art. Furthermore, it requires a minimal interface with the hull 100 of the surface building 10.
- the inflation pressurization greatly simplifies the pressurization process without the need for a complex pressurization system on the surface building platform (at the above the water line).
- Such a mounting method does not include a sealing verification step to verify the tightness of the platform and / or the integrated sonar antenna device 3.
- the mounting method can be implemented without the need to provide a significant preparation time.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 can be changed at any time and in any suitable environment, such as at the dock, in dry dock or in open water, for example in case of failure of the antenna.
- the length of the cables 35 may be chosen to allow disassembly of the antenna device 3 without the need to remove the cables from the chimney 37.
- Figure 6 illustrates an example of disassembly of the antenna device 3 in open water.
- the integrated sonar antenna device 3 can be disassembled in a single block by a plunger 60 equipped with floating supports 61 (for example cradle with adjustable flotation or foam supports).
- the over-length of the cables makes it possible to release the integrated sonar antenna device 3 and move it to a nearby platform to replace the sonar antenna 3, repair it or replace the entire device 3.
- the sonar antenna device integrated 3 can then be replaced at the dock for example in a port or shelter, while the surface building 10 remains in the water.
- the disassembly of the integrated sonar antenna device 3 for the replacement of the antenna 31 can be implemented quickly and efficiently with small tooling elements (floating supports).
- the immobilization of the antenna device 3 at the dock can be greatly reduced.
- the continuity of operational capacity of the device 3 can thus be ensured.
- the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above by way of non-limiting example. It encompasses all the embodiments that may be envisaged by those skilled in the art.
- the invention is not limited to a particular type of sonar antenna or to a dome having a shell shape. Moreover, the invention is not limited either to a particular fixing interface between the integrated sonar antenna device 3 and the shell 100 of the surface building. In addition, the invention is not limited to a supporting structure provided with a chimney 37. Indeed, the integrated antenna device 3 can be mounted on a supporting structure provided with another type of sealing system.
