Definitions
- the present invention relates in general to a folding system for furniture construction and more particularly to a novel rotating assembly system for design and manufacture of furniture and folding structures, adaptable to solid surfaces.
- folding furniture systems which have the main characteristic of occupying a minimum space when fully retracted, these systems are made up of a series of surfaces, frames or fulcrum points, which allow them to fold over pre-established axes.
- the total area occupied by these furniture is drastically reduced, thus allowing its easy transportation or storage, which results in a better use of living spaces, since when these folding furniture is not in use, They can be stored in other locations, without obstructing the free flow of occupants and items within the living space to which they are intended.
- US4046084 (A) describes a folding stool type furniture that consists of 5 pieces in total, the support legs being formed as rotating parts with respect to an axis, said system is designed to support large weights
- the legs and surfaces of the latter are not held in place unless a series of screws and fastening strips are placed, so that their assembly becomes complicated; It is also important to note that the horizontal surface is composed of two plates so its rigidity is compromised.
- Patent application US2006150870 (Al) describes an "X" shaped frame system to support a rigid surface, in this case a table, whose main feature is to be constituted by two central elements that are pivotally joined together. , so that the opening angle can be varied; however, it is not described how this angle is maintained, and it seems that fasteners adhered by screws or some appropriate means to the rigid surface are necessary.
- a particular objective of the present invention is to provide a folding system for furniture construction that is formed by the coupling of four surfaces, two of which have an angled cut that defines a turning stop.
- Another objective of the present invention is to provide a rotating assembly system for design and manufacture of furniture and folding structures adaptable to solid surfaces.
- An additional objective of the present system is to provide a simple assembly system that is easy to build and allows to be folded completely regardless of the solid surface they hold.

- the folding system for furniture construction of the present invention has the purpose of allowing simple storage and transport of furniture by decreasing the total surface thereof by means of a rotating assembly system that can be adapted to solid surfaces .
- the system consists of a plurality of basic assembly units (1) which are formed by the coupling of four areas or sections.
- the first area or section (2) with a length (Ll) is located at one end of the basic assembly unit (1) and has a diagonal cut on the inner face (a) with an inclination represented by a angle ⁇ from 11 ° to 70 °, having an outer face (e) at its other end;
- the area or section (3) has a length (L2) substantially less than the length (Ll) of the area or section (2), having a straight internal face (b) and an external face (f);
- the area or section (4) has a length (L3) substantially greater than the length (Ll) of the area or section (2) having a straight internal face (c) and an external face (g), in addition said area or section ( 4) present a joint surface (6) and;
- the area or section (5) has the same dimensions and configuration as the area or section (2), its length (L4) being the same as the length (Ll) of the area or section (2).
- the areas or sections are joined together by their lateral faces ( Figure 2 and 3) forming the basic assembly units (1).
- said areas or sections are constituted as a single piece formed integrally as seen in Figure 1, while in another embodiment of the invention, they are joined together as separate elements by means. suitable as nails, screws, glue, welding, resins, silicones and / or a combination thereof, as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3.
- the basic assembly units (1) are connected to each other by the surface (6) of the area or section (4) by suitable means such as nails, screws, glue, welding, resins, silicones and / or a combination thereof, being it is necessary to connect 4 of the basic units (1) to form the folding system (9) as can be seen in figure 4.
- the surface (6) can comprise through holes (11) to improve the joint between the units basic assembly (1).
- the basic assembly units (1) are positioned so that the area or section (3) of a basic assembly unit (1) matches the area or section (4) of another of the basic assembly units (1) of such that the vertices of the internal faces of the areas or sections (2) and (5) of each basic assembly unit (1) coincide in a center or axis of rotation (8) in the center of the assembly of the folding system ( 9), in such a way that two groups are formed with each 2 of the basic assembly units (1) crossed together.
- the assembly once deployed, forms an angle between the side surfaces of adjacent areas or sections (Figure 6).
- Said angle is between 22 ° and 140 °, which is related to the angle ⁇ of cutting of the areas or sections (2) and (5), such that the angle formed between the lateral surfaces of two sections is always 2 (a) of the angle of cut of the internal faces (figure 6).
- the folding system for furniture construction of the present invention allows to be coupled to different solid surface configurations (10) which can be of any material commonly used in the construction of furniture such as solid wood, wood derivatives such as triplay, MDF and chipboard chipboard, profiles, metal tubular, plastic panels such as acrylic, PVC, among others with similar characteristics.
- Said solid surfaces (10) are located in the upper part of the folding system (9) perpendicular to the axis of rotation (8) as can be seen in Figures 7 and 8, in which it is represented by way of non-limiting example. , a table and a chair that use the folding system described above.
- the folding system of the present invention may have suitable means for attaching the folding system (9) to the solid surface (10), such as the minifix fasteners, in this case the fastening means (11) are located in the areas or sections (2) and (5) as seen in figure (9).
- the present invention has been described according to a preferred embodiment; however, it will be apparent to a technician with average knowledge in the field, that modifications may be made to the invention, without departing from its spirit and scope.
