Abstract

본 발명은 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재 및 이를 제조하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 이를 위해, 본 발명에서는 강재 성분의 최적화를 통해 강재의 미세조직을 제어함으로써 강재의 강도 및 연성을 우수하게 확보함과 아울러, 고속변형 하에서도 조기파단 등이 없는 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재를 제공할 수 있다.

Description

고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재 및 이의 제조방법
본 발명은 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재 및 이를 제조하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
최근들어, 정치, 경제, 사회적 갈등의 심화로 테러나 군사적 충돌과 같은 국가안보와 관련된 이슈들이 급증하고 있으며, 더불어 지구온난화와 같은 환경파괴로 인해 지진, 강풍과 같은 자연재해에 의한 피해도 급증하고 있다.
이러한 피해들은 폭발이나 급격한 충돌 및 변형 등에 의해 주로 발생함에 따라, 최근에는 군사적 시설물뿐만 아니라 민간의 각종 구조물에 대해서 고강도는 물론 고속충돌이나 고속변형시 저항을 갖는 강재의 사용이 요구되고 있는 실정이다.
한편, 고속충돌이나 고속변형과 같은 고속하중 하에서 우수한 저항성을 가지기 위해서는 기본적으로 높은 에너지 흡수능이 요구된다.
일반적으로, 에너지 흡수능을 판단하는 기본지표로 인장곡선 하단의 면적을 측정하여 평가하는 방법을 사용할 수 있으며, 이는 파괴가 일어나기 전까지 얼마만큼의 에너지를 흡수할 수 있는지 정량적으로 보여주는 지표이다.
이와 같은 관점에서 오스테나이트계 강재는 그 자체가 가지고 있는 우수한 가공경화능과 연신율로 인해 기존 일반 탄소강 대비 우수한 에너지 흡수능을 보유 할 수 있다. 즉, 기존에 주로 사용되었던 페라이트 또는 마르텐사이트를 주조직으로 하는 탄소강은 그 특성에 한계가 있으며, 특히 변형율 속도(strain rate)가 증가하면 균일연신율이 감소하는 경향을 보인다. 그러므로, 이러한 bcc 구조를 갖는 강재는 에너지 흡수능이 요구되는 강재에 사용하기 어려운 측면이 있다.
따라서, 상술한 바와 같이 탄소강의 한계를 극복할 대체재로서 오스테나이트계 강재를 적용하는 것이 요구된다.
종래 대표적인 오스테나이트계 강재로는 오스테나이트계 스테인리스 강인 AISI304(18Cr-8Ni계)를 들 수 있는데, 이 강재는 항복강도가 낮아 구조 재료로서 적합하지 못하며, 고가 원소인 Cr과 Ni을 다량 함유하므로 비경제적이기 때문에 그 용도 및 적용에 한계가 존재한다.
또한, 오스테나이트계 강재라 하더라도 고속하중 하에서 충분한 항복강도 및 균일연신율 확보를 위해서는 오스테나이트 조직을 안정화하는 한편, 변형거동의 제어가 필요하다. 즉, 만약 오스테나이트 조직의 안정화가 저하되면 고속하중 하에서 쉽게 가공유기변태가 일어날 수 있으며, 이러할 경우 마르텐사이트의 형성으로 조기파단이 발생할 수 있다. 더불어, 강도 증가를 위한 목적에서 이에 유리한 합금원소들을 다량 첨가하는 경우에도 이로 인해 수반되는 연신율의 저하는 고속하중 하에서 조기파단을 발생시킬 수 있으므로, 이에 대한 세심한 고려가 필요하다.
본 발명의 일 측면은, 충돌이나 폭발하중과 같은 고속변형 하에서도 우수한 에너지 흡수능을 갖는 강재 및 이를 제조하는 방법을 제공하고자 하는 것이다.
본 발명의 일 측면은, 중량%로, 탄소(C): 0.4~0.9%, 망간(Mn): 14~20%, 인(P): 0.01~0.25%, 잔부 Fe 및 불가피한 불순물을 포함하고, 미세조직이 오스테나이트 단상으로 이루어지는 것인 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재를 제공한다.
본 발명의 다른 측면은, 상술한 성분계를 만족하는 강 슬라브를 재가열하는 단계; 상기 가열된 강 슬라브를 850~1050℃에서 마무리 압연하여 열연강판으로 제조하는 단계; 및 상기 열연강판을 5℃/s 이상의 냉각속도로 600℃ 이하까지 냉각하는 단계를 포함하는 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재의 제조방법을 제공한다.
본 발명에 의하면, 충돌이나 폭발하중과 같은 고속변형 하에도 강도 및 균일연신율이 우수한 강재를 제공할 수 있다.
도 1은 고속변형 하에서 P 함량과 고속인장 곡선의 하단 면적 간의 관계를 나타낸 것이다.
일반적으로, bcc 구조를 갖는 강재는 변형율 속도(strain rate)가 증가하면 균일연신율이 감소하는 경향을 갖는다. 그렇기 때문에, 이러한 bcc 구조를 갖는 강재는 변형율 속도(strain rate)가 상승할수록 흡수할 수 있는 에너지가 감소되며, 이로 인해 고속하중 하에서의 사용이 요구되는 강재에는 적용하기 어려운 문제가 있다.
이에, 본 발명자들은 강재에 변형율 속도(strain rate), 특히 고속변형과 같은 큰 변형율 속도가 가해짐에도 강도뿐만 아니라 균일연신율이 우수한 강재를 얻을 수 있는 방안에 대하여 깊이 연구한 결과, fcc 구조를 갖는 강재의 경우 고속하중 하에서 유리한 변형 및 파괴 메커니즘이 적용되는 것에 착안하여, fcc 구조를 갖는 오스테나이트계 강재를 활용할 경우 고속변형 하에서도 우수한 균일 연신율, 즉 우수한 에너지 흡수능을 가질 수 있음을 확인하고, 본 발명을 완성하기에 이르렀다.
특별히, 본 발명은 오스테나이트계 강재를 활용하기 위하여, 탄소 및 망간의 함량을 최적화하여 오스테나이트의 결정립을 미세화함과 더불어, 강도 상승 원소로서 활용 가능한 인을 적극 첨가하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
이하, 본 발명 강재의 성분계에 대하여 상세히 설명한다 (각 성분의 함량은 중량%를 의미한다).
C: 0.4~0.9%
탄소(C)는 오스테나이트 안정화 원소로서 강재의 균일연신율을 향상시키는 역할뿐만 아니라, 강도 향상 및 가공경화율을 높이는데 매우 유리한 원소이다.
이러한 탄소의 함량이 0.4% 미만이면 상온에서 안정한 오스테나이트를 형성하기 어렵고, 충분한 강도 및 가공경화율을 확보하기 어려운 문제가 있다. 반면, 그 함량이 0.9%를 초과하게 되면 탄화물이 다량 석출되어 오히려 균일연신율을 저하시키며, 이로 인해 우수한 연신율을 확보하기 곤란한 문제가 있다. 특히, 준정적하중 하에서 일정량의 균일연신율 감소는 고속하중 하의 경우 더 큰 균일연신율의 감소로 이어지므로, 고속하중 하에서 조기파단을 일으킬 우려가 있다.
따라서, 본 발명에서는 C의 함량을 0.4~0.9%로 제한함이 바람직하다. 보다 바람직하게는 0.5~0.8%로 제한하는 것이 좋으며, 보다 더 바람직하게는 0.6~0.75%로 제한하는 것이 더욱 좋다.
Mn: 14~20%
망간(Mn)은 오스테나이트를 안정화시키는 역할을 하는 매우 중요한 원소로서, 특히 균일연신율을 향상시켜 에너지 흡수능을 향상시키는 역할을 한다. 본 발명에서 주 조직으로 오스테나이트를 얻기 위해서는 Mn이 14% 이상으로 포함되는 것이 바람직하다.
만일, Mn의 함량이 14% 미만일 경우에는 오스테나이트의 안정도가 저하되어 마르텐사이트 조직이 형성될 우려가 있으며, 이러할 경우 충분한 균일연신율의 확보가 어려운 문제가 있다. 반면 20%를 초과하게 되면 제조비용이 상승할 뿐만 아니라, Mn의 과다한 첨가로 인한 내식성 저하, 제조 공정상의 어려움 등의 문제점이 있다.
따라서, 본 발명에서는 Mn의 함량을 14~20%로 제한함이 바람직하다.
P: 0.01~0.25%
본 발명에서 인(P)은 강재의 강도 확보 측면에서 매우 중요한 원소이다.
일반적으로, P은 입계에 편석(segregation)하여 고온취성을 유발하는 원소로 잘 알려져 있으며, 이러한 이유로 통상 P을 불순물로 취급하여, 그 함량을 지극히 낮게 제어한다.
그러나, 본 발명에서는 상술한 바와 같이 C 및 Mn의 함량을 최적화하여 안정한 오스테나이트 상을 확보함에 따라, P의 고용도가 증가하고, 이로 인해 높은 함량으로 P을 첨가하여도 입계에 편석되지 않아, 물성 열화를 가져오지 않는다.
P은 입계 편석으로 인한 물성 열화만 없다면, 강재의 항복강도 및 인장강도를 효과적으로 높이는데 유리한 원소이며, 특히 항복강도의 향상은 고속하중 하에서 받는 충격을 1차적으로 분산시키는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 상기 C도 강도를 향상시키는데 효과적인 원소이지만, 다량 첨가할 경우 탄화물의 형성으로 연신율이 저하되는 문제가 있다. 따라서, 본 발명에서는 탄화물이 생성되지 않는 범위 내에서 C로 최대 강도를 확보하고, 동시에 물성 열화가 없는 범위 내에서 P을 효과적으로 이용하여 추가적인 강도 향상을 확보할 수 있다.
상술한 효과를 얻기 위해서는 P을 0.01~0.25%로 첨가하는 것이 바람직하다. 이때, P의 함량이 0.01% 미만이면 충분한 강도가 확보되지 못하며, 반면 0.25%를 초과하게 되면 P을 고용할 수 있는 한계치를 넘어서게 되어 오히려 입계에 과다 편석될 우려가 있으므로, 그 함량을 0.01~0.25%로 제한함이 바람직하다. 보다 바람직하게는 0.05~0.20%로 제한하는 것이 좋으며, 보다 더 바람직하게는 0.10~0.20%로 제한하는 것이 더욱 좋다.
상술한 성분계를 가지는 강재로서, 고속변형 하에서도 우수한 에너지 흡수능을 갖고, 강도 및 연성이 우수한 강판이 되기 위한 바람직한 조건으로 강재의 미세조직에 대하여 한정할 필요가 있다.
본 발명에 따른 강재의 미세조직은 오스테나이트 단상이며, 평균 결정립 크기는 100㎛ 이하(0은 제외)인 것이 바람직하다. 결정립 크기를 100㎛ 이하로 미세화할 경우 고속하중 하에서 에너지 흡수능 향상에 기여하며, 특히 단위입계면적당 P의 입계 편석율을 감소시키는 효과가 있어 물성 열화 없이 P을 활용할 수 있다.
더불어, 본 발명에 따른 강재는 P의 입계 편석율이 면적분율 5% 이하로, 본 발명의 경우 P이 입계에 편석되는 대신 고용강화 효과를 충분히 가질 수 있는 것이다.
본 발명의 강재는 1000/s 이하의 변형률(strain rate)에서 45% 이상의 연신율을 갖고, 인장커브 면적이 35000MPa*% 이상으로 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재를 제공할 수 있다.
이하, 상술한 바와 같은 본 발명의 목적을 충족하는 강재를 제조하기 위하여 본 발명자들에 의해 도출된 가장 바람직한 방법에 대하여 상세히 설명한다.
본 발명의 제조방법은 개략적으로는 상술한 성분계를 만족하는 강 슬라브를 가열하여 균질화 처리한 후, 열간압연을 거쳐 열연강판으로 제조하는 방법을 제공한다. 이하, 각 단계별 상세한 조건에 대하여 설명한다.
(강 슬라브 재가열 단계)
본 발명에서는 강 슬라브의 재가열 온도를 특별히 하는 것은 아니지만, 후속되는 열간압연 시에 마무리 온도를 안정적으로 확보하기 위해서는 그 온도를 1100℃ 이상으로 제한하는 것이 바람직하다.
(열간압연 단계)
상기 재가열된 강 슬라브를 열간 마무리 압연하여 열연강판으로 제조할 수 있으며, 본 발명에서 열간 마무리 압연은 850~1050℃ 온도범위에서 실시하는 것이 바람직하다.
열간 마무리 압연시 그 온도가 850℃ 미만이면 탄화물이 다량 석출되어 균일연신율의 저하를 일으킬 수 있으며, 미세조직이 팬케이크화 되어 조직이방성으로 인한 불균일 연신이 발생할 우려가 있다. 반면, 열간 마무리 온도가 1050℃를 초과하게 되면 결정립 성장이 활발하여 쉽게 결정립이 조대화되어 강도가 저하되는 문제가 발생할 수 있다.
(냉각 단계)
본 발명에서는 상기에 의해 제조된 열연강판을 급속으로 냉각하는 공정에 의해, 기지조직 내의 C 및 P 원소들의 고용도를 높게 확보할 수 있다. 이때, 냉각 공정은 5℃/s 이상의 냉각속도로 600℃ 이하까지 실시하는 것이 바람직하다.
만일, 냉각속도가 5℃/s 미만이거나 냉각종료온도가 600℃를 초과하게 되면 C가 고용되지 못하고 탄화물로 석출되어 연신율이 저하되는 문제가 있다.
보다 바람직하게 상기 냉각은 10℃/s 이상, 보다 더 바람직하게는 15℃/s 이상의 냉각속도로 실시하는 것이 좋다. 다만, 냉각설비의 한계를 고려하여 그 상한을 50℃/s으로 한정할 수 있다.
또한, 냉각종료온도에 있어서 상온까지 냉각하여도 강재 물성에는 영향이 없으나, 설비 효율을 고려하여 그 하한을 200℃로 한정할 수 있다.
이하, 실시예를 통하여 본 발명을 보다 상세히 설명한다. 다만, 후술하는 실시예는 본 발명을 예시하여 구체화하기 위한 것일 뿐 본 발명의 권리범위를 제한하기 위한 것이 아니라는 점에 유의할 필요가 있다. 본 발명의 권리범위는 특허청구범위에 기재된 사항과 이로부터 합리적으로 유추되는 사항에 의하여 결정되는 것이기 때문이다.
( 실시예 )
하기 표 1에 나타낸 바와 같은 성분계 및 조성범위를 만족하는 강 슬라브를 1100℃ 이상에서 재가열 공정을 거친 후, 하기 표 1에 나타낸 일련의 열간압연 공정을 통해 열연강판으로 제조하였다.
이후, 상기 각각의 제조된 열연강판의 미세조직, 결정립 크기를 관찰하여 하기 표 2에 나타내었다. 또한, 상기 열연강판에 대한 에너지 흡수성을 준정적 변형 및 고속변형 하에서 각각의 항복강도 및 균일연신율을 측정하고, 인장커브 하단 면적을 측정하여 하기 표 2에 함께 나타내었다.
이때, 인장커브 하단 면적은 평균 변형율 속도(strain rate)=500/s에서 고속인장시험을 행한 다음, 획득한 응력-변형율 선도를 이용하여 하단 면적을 계산하고, 이를 이용하여 에너지 흡수능을 판단하였다.

(상기 표 2에서 'γ'는 오스테나이트, 'ε'는 엡실론 마르텐사이트, 'α′'는 α′마르텐사이트를 의미한다.)
상기 표 1 및 2에 나타낸 바와 같이, 본 발명에서 제안하는 성분계 및 제조조건을 모두 만족하는 발명예 1 내지 5는 항복강도 및 균일연신율이 모두 우수하여 인장커브 면적이 35000MPa*% 이상으로 측정되었다.
특히, 발명예 3 내지 5의 경우 P의 함량이 증가할수록 고용강화 효과로 인해 항복강도가 점차적으로 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 결과는, 탄소에 의한 고용강화 효과에 더하여 P에 의한 고용강화 효과가 더 포함되었다는 것을 알 수 있다.
또한, 고속하중 하에서는 변형율 속도 강화(strain rate hardening)에 의해 항복강도가 상승하는데, 본 실시예에서도 P 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 강도상승폭이 크게 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 이에 반면, 고속하중 하에서 균일연신율의 저하가 크지 않으므로, 인장커브 면적이 35000MPa*% 이상으로 나타난 것을 확인할 수 있다.
한편, 비교강 1은 탄소(C) 함량이 낮아 충분한 강도를 확보하지 못하여 고속하중 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 기준치 이하로 나타났으며, 탄소(C)의 함량이 너무 과다한 비교강 2는 강도는 확보되었으나 탄화물이 석출되어 고속하중 하에서 균일연신율이 급격히 저하되었다.
비교강 3은 Mn의 함량이 낮아 안정적인 오스테나이트 상이 형성되지 못하고, 마르텐사이트 상이 형성되어 고속하중 하에서 조기파단됨에 따라, 충분한 에너지 흡수능을 확보하지 못하였다.
비교강 4는 P의 함량이 충분치 못하여 고용강화 효과를 충분히 얻지 못함에 따라 강도 확보가 이루어지지 않았으며, P의 함량이 너무 과다한 비교강 5는 P의 입계 편석이 발생하여 급격한 연신율 저하가 발생한 것을 확인할 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명에서 제안하는 성분조성은 만족하지만 제조조건이 불만족하는 비교강 6 내지 9의 경우, 다량의 탄화물이 형성되거나 결정립이 조대화됨에 따라 고속하중 하에서 충분한 균일연신율을 확보하지 못한 것을 확인할 수 있다.
도 1은 고속변형 하에서 P 함량과 고속인장 곡선의 하단 면적 간의 관계를 나타낸 것이다.
도 1에 나타낸 바와 같이, P의 함량이 0.01~0.25% 일 경우(발명강 1 내지 5) 고속변형 하에서 인장곡선의 하단 면적이 모두 35000MPa*% 이상으로 측정되는 반면, P의 함량이 너무 낮은 경우(비교강 4) P에 의한 고용강화 효과를 얻지 못함에 따라 하단 면적이 35000MPa*% 미만이었으며, P의 함량이 너무 과도한 경우(비교강 5) P의 입계 편석으로 인해 오히려 균일연신율이 현저히 저하되어 하단 면적이 25000MPa*%에도 미치지 못한 것을 확인할 수 있다.

Claims (5)

  1. 중량%로, 탄소(C): 0.4~0.9%, 망간(Mn): 14~20%, 인(P): 0.01~0.25%, 잔부 Fe 및 불가피한 불순물을 포함하고, 미세조직이 오스테나이트 단상으로 이루어지는 것인 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 강재는 인(P)의 입계 편석율이 5% 이하(0을 포함)인 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재.
  3. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 오스테나이트의 평균 결정립 크기가 100μm 이하(0은 제외)인 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재.
  4. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 강재는 1000/s 이하의 변형률 속도(strain rate)에서 45% 이상의 연신율을 갖는 것인 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재.
  5. 중량%로, 탄소(C): 0.4~0.9%, 망간(Mn): 14~20%, 인(P): 0.01~0.25%, 잔부 Fe 및 불가피한 불순물을 포함하는 강 슬라브를 재가열하는 단계;
    상기 가열된 강 슬라브를 850~1050℃에서 마무리 압연하여 열연강판으로 제조하는 단계; 및
    상기 열연강판을 5℃/s 이상의 냉각속도로 600℃ 이하까지 냉각하는 단계
    를 포함하는 고속변형 하에서 에너지 흡수능이 우수한 강재의 제조방법.
