Definitions
- the invention relates to the use of sophorolipids to increase the yield of agricultural crops.
- Agricultural crops also referred to as crops, are currently treated during their growing season by numerous means.
- pesticides are used to protect crops against fungal pathogens, or to control insect infestation, or to eliminate unwanted companion crops that are in competition with crops.
- US 2005/0266036 A1 describes biological wetting agents produced by microbes for use against pests, e.g. of roundworms.
- the wetting agents or microorganisms that produce the wetting agents are placed almost as biopesticides directly on the pests to directly combat them. Examples are given only for the use of rhamnolipids against house flies, cockroaches and roundworms, as well as against existing mushroom spores on pumpkins. It is reported that Rhamnolipids show pesticidal activity due to their cell wall penetrating effect.
- Sophorolipids have anti microbial effects
- US 2005/0164955 and US 2013/0085067 describe such effects against various human and plant pathogenic organisms in the form of MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) values, ie in artificial test systems.
- MIC minimum inhibitory concentration
- US Pat. No. 7,994,138 B2 describes rhamnolipids as insecticides, herbicidal, fungicidal and nematicidal agents.
- Rhamnolipids are commercially available as biofungicides, for example under the name ZONIX (Jeneil Biotech, Saukville, WI, USA).
- Glycolipids such as sophorolipids and rhmanolipids are known as adjuvants (ie, not self-acting additives) to pesticides JP 2012-530202, US 2012/0220464, US 2012/002241, US 2005/0266036. In these applications, the disease-control effect of the pesticides to be used is enhanced. No statement is made about the production of biomass or fruit yield.
- rhamnolipids have phytotoxic (plant-damaging) side effects.
- the fungicides of the new class of carboximides are attributed, after foliar application, to an improvement in the grain yield of cereals (Berduga, CA. et al., "Effects of the SDHI fungicidal bixafen on development and yield of wheat", Julius- Kuhn-Archiv 438 (2012)
- a disadvantage of all known in the prior art uses of glycolipids and in particular sophorolipids is that they are always used in combination with pesticides. This is dependent or independent of a disease infestation, so often prophylactically.
- One object of the present invention is the yield of crop plants Description of the invention:
- the present invention is therefore the use of sophorolipids to increase the yield of agricultural crops
- An advantage of the use according to the invention of sophorolipids is that yield increases in agricultural crops are achieved even if the plant pathogen is not combated, or the clinical picture is not changed.
- a further advantage of the use according to the invention of the sophorolipids is that the use of pesticides, preferably fungicides, can be omitted even if a corresponding clinical picture is formed, as is caused by harmful organisms, preferably fungi, and yet an increase in yield is achieved. This avoids disadvantages of using pesticides, such as side effects and additional costs.
- Seed treatment with sophorolipids surprisingly accelerates and enhances the initial development of plants in rooting and shoot formation.
- sophorolipids corresponds to this substance class owing to the favorable ecotoxicological profile and the very good biodegradability (see M. Renkin, 2003. "Envionmental profile of sophorolipid and rhamnolipid biosurfactants", La Rivista Italiana delle Sostanze Grasse.Vol.80 / 4 Pages 249-252) the basic idea of ecologically oriented sustainable plant production. Examples:
- sophorolipid delivery compositions The solids content of the sophorolipid delivery compositions is explained in terms of the sum of all sophorolipids plus the components from the biotechnological process that were not separated, in a solution, emulsion or dispersion.
- Table 3 Comparative preparation, not according to the invention
- the fungicide Fung-2 significantly improved the clinical picture of the leaves compared to the control.
- the grain yield increased by 2.8 dt / ha.
- the yields from the combination of the fungicide with 237/488 g / ha of sophorolipids (SL) were further increased (by 4 and 9.1 dt / ha compared to Fung-2 alone), although this further increase in yield does not correlate with any improvement in the clinical picture.
- a dose-dependency of the sophorolipid could not be determined in this concentration range.
- Sophorolipid SL-2 when used alone increased yields by more than 10 dt / ha compared to untreated control. No change in the clinical picture was observed by SL-2, since the disease infestation of the leaves with that in the Control was the same. Thus, the increase in yield through SL-2 is not due to an improvement in the clinical picture.
- the fungicide Fung-4 was diluted at 200 l / ha in appropriate plots at growth stage R-1 (beginning of flowering) and 21 days later and applied to the plants.
- SL-3 and SL-5 were sprayed alone without Fung-4.
- the grain yields of this legume were weighed after harvesting the culture.
- the application rates of the agents and the results are listed in Table 6.
- Table 7 shows the increase in yield due to the use of sophorolipids. There was no increase in yield when the fungicide was used.
- the application rate of SL-3 corresponds to 195 g of SL active component per ha.
- Table 8 Grain yields and clinical picture of the leaves according to Example 5:
- Example 7 Winter barley - net spot disease (not according to the invention)
- Table 10 shows that there was an increase in yield of 5.7 dt / ha under the treatment with the fungicide, at the same time the clinical picture was significantly improved.
- the combined use of the fungicide with the commercial adjuvant resulted in a further improvement of the clinical picture. This is an expected US 2012/0220464 picture.
- Example 8 Use as cereal seed treatment agent
- the sophorolipids SL-5, SL-7 and the fungicide Fung-5 were sterile-filtered before pouring the liquid agar into the glass jars (at 40 ° C) the still liquid agar in the appropriate concentrations (on the volume of added agar calculated). Then the seeds were placed on the agar. Seed treatment was simulated by this procedure, since the agents could then directly influence the germination as well as the initial growth of the plants. The further cultivation of the plants took place over a period of 10 days at ambient temperatures in the laboratory. In the agar-grown plants, the number of lateral roots formed was counted after 10 days. In addition, the shoot length was measured.
- Example 9 Synergies with fungicides for yield formation in barley and tomato
- Spray applications with the test substances dissolved in water were administered to the leaves of barley and tomato with the equivalent of 200 l / ha of spray liquor, calculated on the surface of the pots, when they had reached the 3-4 leaf growth stage. Growth evaluations were made 21 days after application - during these 21 days the plants were in the above climatic chambers.
- the shoot growth was determined by cutting off the above-ground shoot parts at the boundary to the substrate and then immediately determining the fresh weight. To determine the shoot growth, the difference between the mean values of four test plants of the application experiments with the controls was formed. The excess yield refers to the mean of the mass per plant.
- Tables 12 and 13 show that co-application of sophorolipid and a carboximide-class fungicide resulted in a synergistic increase in yield in the form of the biomass of the plants.
