Description

GRILL RACK WITH IMPROVED GRILLING PERFORMANCE AND GAS OVEN HAVING THE SAME
The present invention relates to a grill rack for use in a domestic oven which has a gas burner assembly for grilling food.
Conventional gas ovens in which a gas burner is utilized for grilling food are commonly known. In such conventional gas ovens, the gas burner is usually arranged close to a ceiling of the grilling chamber. The side walls of the grilling chamber are provided with supports for mounting a grill rack at one of a plurality of levels below the gas burner. The user places the food to be grilled on the grill rack. Thereafter, the user mounts the grill rack to a pair of supports in accordance with the desired level of doneness.
During the grilling process the food is generally exposed to a relatively high amount of radiant heat emanated from the gas burner so that it develops a crust but remains juicy inside. A fast transfer of heat can easily compromise uniform grilling. In particular, in case of a non-uniform impingement of the radiant heat onto the food, some parts of the food which receive relatively more heat become well roasted while the other parts which receive relatively less heat may still require additional time for the completion of the grilling process. Therefore, there is a risk that the food may not be uniformly grilled. Thus, the outcome of the grilling process may easily degrade.
To ensure uniform grilling, reflectors are commonly used. These reflectors are arranged in the vicinity of the gas burner assembly. A drawback of the reflectors is that they require additional space for installation. Therefore, in a conventional gas oven having reflectors, the utilizable volume for the grilling chamber is generally reduced. Moreover, the provision and the assembly of the reflectors increases the overall cost of the oven.
JPS6078226 (A) discloses a gas stove which has a grill chamber and a grill rack for supporting the food to be grilled. In this gas stove two gas burners are arranged on opposing lateral walls of the grill chamber. In addition, a reflecting plate is mounted to an upper part of the grill chamber.
An objective of the present invention is to provide a grill rack and an oven having the same which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art in a cost-effective way and which improves a grilling performance.
This objective has been achieved by the grill rack as defined in claim 1, and the oven as defined in claim 12. Further achievements have been attained by the subject-matters respectively defined in the dependent claims.
The grill rack of the present invention has an intermediate section, a left section and a right section each for supporting food from below. The left section and the right section are immediately adjacent to opposing lateral sides of the intermediate section. In the mounted state of the grill rack the intermediate section lies horizontal. The left section slants upwards to the left. The right section slants upwards to the right.
In the oven of the present invention the gas burner is centered on a ceiling of the chamber with respect to the opposing lateral walls of the chamber. The oven of the present invention further comprises at least two supports for slidably mounting the grill rack. The two supports are respectively formed on the opposing lateral walls so as to support the grill rack at a level below the gas burner.
In an embodiment, a distance between the centers of the left section of the grill rack and a left half portion of the gas burner is equal to or not more than 50 mm or more preferably not more than 5mm longer than a distance between the centers of the intermediate section of the grill rack and a mid portion of the gas burner. In this embodiment, the left section and the right section of the grill rack are symmetrical in shape with respect to an imaginary vertical plane bisecting the intermediate section of the grill rack. In this embodiment, also a distance between the centers of the right section of the grill rack and a right half portion of the gas burner is equal to or not more than 50 mm or more preferably not more than 5mm longer than a distance between the centers of the intermediate section of the grill rack and the mid portion of the gas burner.
By virtue of the centered gas burner of the oven and the conformal shape of the grill rack, the food can be uniformly exposed to the radiant heat emanated from the gas burner. With the present invention the food distributed over the entire grill rack is substantially equally close to the centered gas burner. Thereby, the food can be uniformly grilled. With the present invention, the grilling performance has been improved in a cost effective way. The user has been relieved from frequently checking and rearranging the food on the grill rack to prevent burning and to achieve uniform grilling thereof. The total duration for the grilling process has been reduced, and the energy efficiency of the oven has also been improved. Thereby, a consumer satisfaction can be further increased.
Additional advantages of the grill rack of the present invention and the oven of the present invention will become apparent with the detailed description of the embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
