Definitions

  • This invention relates to a service vehicle for an aircraft and in particular to a service vehicle that can be used with aircraft of many different sizes.
  • service vehicles at airports to facilitate servicing of the interior of the aircraft, for example, cleaning the interior and seating of the aircraft, and more particularly for replenishing supplies of food and drink and other provisions for passengers.
  • service vehicles are typically equipped with a container or truck body mounted on a lifting arrangement on the chassis of the vehicle, behind the operators cab, whereby the container can be raised to the height of the fuselage of an aircraft, typically by a scissor lift arrangement activated by one or more hydraulic rams.
  • a loading platform is usually provided at forward end of the container for docking with a door of an aircraft to allow persons, equipment and supplies to be transferred between the container and an aircraft.
  • the loading platform must be folded and/or raised to a height to clear the cab of the vehicle when the container is in a lowered position. This results in a minimum operating height for the loading platform (to allow clearance for the cab), restricting the use of the service vehicle to servicing larger aircraft wherein the fuselage is at a height above said minimum operating height.
  • Previous attempts to enable such service vehicles to be used with smaller aircraft have involved removing one half of the cab, so that the loading platform can be positioned alongside the remainder of the cab when the container is in its lowered position. However, this requires substantial modification to the cab, reduces the size of the cab and requires a corresponding reduction in the width of the loading platform.
