  • the inner bulge region 13 is a portion of the bowl upper end 1 1 that has an increased thickness, whereby the inner surface 17 of the bulge 13 is adapted to conform to the sidewalls of a tobacco capsule when placed into the bowl.
  • the inner surface 17 may be vertical, or slightly tapered, depending on the design of the hookah bowl and the intended capsules to be deployed therein. This tapering can be achieved either by the bulge region 13 having a uniform thickness along its vertical extent, or a non-uniform thickness along its vertical extent. It will be appreciated, however, that the design of the inner surface 17 will largely be dictated by the capsule to be placed therein.
  • the central region 21 Moving downward from the bowl upper end 1 1 is a central region 21 that connects the bowl upper end 1 1 to the bowl lower end 31.
  • the central region 21 comprises a portion of the bowl sidewall that may be aligned with the bowl lower end 31 , or may be provided with a specific contour or shape, as show in FIGs. 1 and 2.
  • the central region comprises an open interior connecting the open interior of the lower end 31 to the open interior of the upper end 1 1.
  • the interior of the bowl structure is open and continuous, whereby no interior surfaces or filter screens are disposed within the interior of the device.
  • the lower end 31 of the bowl structure preferably comprises a uniformly cylindrical surface 33 with an open lower end opening 32.
  • the uniform cylinder facilitates placement of the bowl structure into a hookah pipe, whereby the length of the lower end 31 within the hookah pipe prevents tilting or similar movement of the bowl while supported by the hookah pipe.
  • the inner bulge 13 comprises an inner surface 17, a lower lip 17 and a plurality of depressions 15 therealong.
  • the depressions 15 are areas in the bulge surface 17 that are sunken in, whereby expansion of a tobacco capsule is
  • the depressions 15 particularly accommodate capsules having a sidewall formed of a foil or expandable metallic material, whereby the material expands and enters the depressions 15. This causes a more firm seal between the capsule and the bulge portion 13, preventing rotation of the capsule, capsule separation, and further preventing air from bypassing the capsule altogether and entering the bowl interior 16. Any appropriately shaped capsule could be placed therein and retained, however.
  • FIG. 3 there is shown an overhead perspective view of an alternate embodiment of the bowl upper end 1 1 , whereby the upper rim 12 comprises an inner bulge region having a smooth interior surface 17 devoid of depressions. This structure is simpler and requires fewer manufacturing steps, however still provides a means to support a capsule therein and to maintain an air tight seal against the capsule outer flange and the capsule sidewalls.

  • the undulation comprises a bump- out or projection formed within the sidewall, wherein the bump-out includes a concave interior surface 23 and a convex outer surface 22.
  • the undulation acts as a stop when the bowl lower end is placed within the hookah pipe, preventing the receiving slot of the hookah pipe from contacting the bowl upper end 1 1.
  • the exterior surface 22 of the undulated surface bears against the hookah pipe, while the interior surface 23 thereof conforms thereto to maintain a consistent sidewall thickness.
  • the central region may take on several forms, including a uniform transition to the bowl lower end.
  • the undulation shown in the figures is one design of many that are contemplated.
  • the bowl lower end may comprise a number of shapes and dimensions, whereby it is preferred to provide a uniformly cylindrical portion for insertion into the hookah pipe. Any suitable lower end could be used, however, which will complementarily engage with a hookah pipe.
  • the hookah bowl of the present invention is a hollow, tubular structure with a continuous sidewall.
  • the sidewall extends from the bowl upper end to the bowl lower end, and forms the interior surfaces 34, 23, 18 and exterior surfaces 33, 22 thereof.
  • the inner bulge region 13 is a region of increased thickness, whereby a tobacco capsule is held captive within the bowl upper end 1 1 and a seal is formed between the capsule and the bulge region 13 and the upper rim 12.
  • the depressions 15 improve the seal for those capsules having an expandable wall structure.
  • the hookah capsule 100 comprises a sidewall 104, an apertured upper surface 103 and an apertured lower surface 102.
  • the interior of the capsule comprises a smokable product such as tobacco.
  • the hookah bowl of the present invention is adapted to provide an air tight seal with the upper flange 101 and sidewalls 104 of the capsule 100.
  • the inner bulge surface 16 enables the hookah bowl to support the sidewalls 104 outer flange of a prepackaged tobacco capsule, while the upper rim 12 supports the outer flange 101 thereof.
  • the inner bulge of the hookah bowl is adapted to establish an air tight seal against the prepackaged tobacco capsule 101 to prevent air from bypassing the ignited tobacco therein.
  • the hollow bowl narrows towards its lower end so as to allow the free flow of smoke therethrough. Further, the lower end is adapted to be accepted by a hookah pipe and direct smoke from the hookah bowl to the hookah.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates the hookah bowl of the invention accepting the tobacco capsule placed inside of the open upper thereof.
  • the outer flange 101 of the capsule is supported by the upper rim 12, while the sidewalls 104 of the capsule are supported by the inner bulge surface 16 along the upper rim.
  • the connection provides an air tight seal between the capsule and the bowl.
  • the hollow interior of the hookah bowl provides an empty space for the volume of the capsule to occupy, and also provides air flow through the capsule without additional screens or surfaces that would unnecessarily restrict air flow.
  • the lower end of the hookah bowl directs smoke into the hookah pipe.
  • the depressions 15 in the inner bulge region facilitate expansion, whereby the sidewall material expands into the depression interior to further seal the capsule thereagainst and prevent ready removal thereof.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un bol de narguilé structuré pour accueillir une capsule de tabac préemballé. Le bol de narguilé comporte une extrémité supérieure ouverte (11), une partie centrale creuse (21) et une extrémité inférieure étroite (31). L'extrémité supérieure (11) comporte une structure de bol arrondie possédant des parois latérales (16) s'étendant vers l'extérieur à partir de la partie centrale (21), un rebord supérieur (12) et une région de renflement intérieure (13) s'étendant vers l'intérieur à partir du rebord (12). La partie centrale (21) comporte un canal ouvert dépourvu de tamis et s'étendant entre la structure de bol arrondie vers l'extrémité inférieure pour faire circuler l'air et la fumée provenant d'une capsule accueillie dans la structure de bol. Le renflement intérieur (13) de la structure de bol est adapté à établir un joint étanche autour d'une capsule de tabac préemballé (100) quand la capsule est positionnée dans l'extrémité supérieure ouverte (11), tandis que le bord intérieur (14) peut en outre comporter une pluralité de creux (15) le long de ce dernier qui facilitent la dilatation d'un corps de capsule en train d'être fumée.
