Definitions
- the present patent concerns the sector of coverings for buildings and i particular it concerns a new type of insulating panel for cladding and covering solutions, both for new buildings and renovations.
- Insulating cladding elements are known that are used in the building sector for heat and sound insulation of the walls of buildings.
- Insulating cladding elements are constituted by several materials assembled together in order to form a package. This package mainly comprises the insulating material, giues, mortars, the finishing coat, dowels, any reinforcement bars and the finishing paints.
- Cladding elements comprise panels made of an insulating material applied to the external face of a building's wall.
- Said insulating materials can be foam polystyrene, polyurethane and mineral fibrous materials like rock wool or glass wool.
- Polystyrene and polyurethane have better conductivity characteristics than mineral fibrous materials; on the other hand, mineral materials have better fire performance than polystyrene and polyurethane.
- the CP defines as construction product any product or product kit produced and introduced in the market with the purpose of incorporating it permanently in construction works, or parts of the same, and whose performance affects the performance of the construction works with respect to their basic requisites; "kit” means a construction product introduced in the market by a single manufacturer as an assembly of at least two distinct components that must be assembled together with others in order to be installed in construction works.
- each single component in order to meet the said fire performance requisites when making a cladding element to be applied to the external faces of buildings, each single component must be classified at least in class Bs3d0 while in the case of face coverings made and sold as a kit it is the entire kit and not the individual element that must be classified at least in class Bs3d0.
- foam polystyrene is belongs to class E, meaning that it cannot be used alone but must necessarily be used with other materials having good fire resistance, in order to form a kit that as a whole is suitable for use in terms of fire resistance.
- strips or compartments must be provided around doors and windows, between floors and at the base of the facades, wherein said strips must be made of a material in class Al or in any ease a material with good fire resistance.
- a new type of insulating panel with modular compartments for cladding elements or coverings has been designed and produced. It is the main object of the present invention to provide a substantially traditional panel with self-extinguishing foam polystyrene having good fire performance for each single slab and provided with optimal heat and sound insulation characteristics.
- the new panel includes the application, on one or preferably two adjacent sides of a polystyrene or polyurethane panel, here below called first panel, of at least one or two elements or slabs, here below called second panels, made of fire-retardant materials in fire performance class Al or in any case materials capable of acting as a fire barrier, like mineral fibrous materials, for example rock wool or glass wool or another material having equivalent characteristics.
- first panel polystyrene or polyurethane panel
- second panels made of fire-retardant materials in fire performance class Al or in any case materials capable of acting as a fire barrier, like mineral fibrous materials, for example rock wool or glass wool or another material having equivalent characteristics.
- two elements or strips made of a fibrous material classified as class Al, or in any case capable of acting as a fire barrier and having the same thickness as the insulating panel, are applied to two adjacent sides of the first EPS foam polystyrene panel, moulded or cut from a block, or a panel in XPS extruded polystyrene or foam polyurethane.
- These second elements, or strips, made of mineral fibrous materials like rock wool or glass wool or any other material having equivalent characteristics and in any case capable of acting as a fire barrier, are made integral with the first panel in insulating foam material, preferably foam polystyrene, in the various densities and types, by means of glues, mechanical fixing systems, joints or other systems, in such a way as to create a single monolithic panel comprising at least two different insulating materials.
- insulating foam material preferably foam polystyrene
- the length of a strip for example horizontal, can be the same as that of the first panel, increased by the width of the vertical strip, while the height of the vertical strip is the same as that of the first panel.
- the new panel is made with heat and sound insulating foam material, preferably foam polystyrene in the various densitie and types: white, black, coloured, two- colour with the use of additives like graphite/carbon black, or other components with athermanous characteristics, cut from a block or moulded.
- foam polystyrene in the various densitie and types: white, black, coloured, two- colour with the use of additives like graphite/carbon black, or other components with athermanous characteristics, cut from a block or moulded.
- the panel can be made in any suitable thickness.
- the panel can be made also with one single strip on one side only, and in the same way it may comprise a complete frame made of a class A l material, or in any case a material capable of acting as a fire barrier, on all of the four sides.
- Figure 1 shows the new panel (K), having a standard size of 100x50 cm and a thickness of 10 cm, comprising a first panel (P) made of an EPS foam material, moulded or cut from a block, or a panel in XPS extruded polystyrene or foam polyurethane, in a parallelepiped shape with size 90x40 cm.
- a second element or panel, or strip (S I) is glued onto the upper edge (PI), said pane! being made of a fibrous material classified, for example, as class Al, 10 cm wide and 100 cm long, having the same thickness as the first panel (P).
- Another second vertical panel or strip (S2) is glued onto the right edge (P2), said panel being made of a fibrous material classified, for example, as class Al , as described above, always 10 cm thick, 10 cm wide and 40 cm high.
- Figure 1 a shows a vertical cross section of the panel (K) with the first panel (P) and the strip (S I) and provided, in this case, with outer knurls (K21) and inner knurls ( l) suited to favour the adhesion of mortars and resins.
- Figure 2 shows the panel (K), having the same dimensions indicated for the previous ease, wherein the first panel (P) is included and framed within four second panels or strips made of a fibrous material classified, for example, as class Al .
- said second panels or strips (SI, S2. S3, S4) are arranged so as to form a frame on all of the four sides (PI , P2, P3, P4) of the panel (P),
- they may preferably have a reduced thickness compared to the second panels shown in Figure 1.
- Figure 2a shows a vertical cross section of said second solution.
- Figure 3 shows various panels ( ) assembled together on a laying plane where it can be observed that all of the first panels (P) are circumscribed by said strips (SI , S2) made of a material classified as class Al , or in any case a material capable of acting as a fire barrier in order to prevent any fire spark from expanding on the insulating material itself.
- the new panel can be used in particular together with a rigid slab, like a smooth or ribbed metal sheet or a plasterboard slab or panels in wood, or agglomerates with phenolic resins or mineralized wood wool, or it can be coupled with a waterproof sheath, either bituminous or synthetic.
