Description

非水電解液二次電池
 本発明は、二次電池用電解液、およびこれを用いた二次電池、さらにはリチウムイオン二次電池に関する。
 ノート型パソコン、携帯電話、電気自動車、定置用蓄電システムなどの急速な市場拡大に伴い、安価・安全で、長寿命かつ高エネルギー密度の二次電池が求められている。その候補として、エネルギー密度が高く、メモリー効果のないリチウムイオン二次電池は有望な二次電池の一つとされている。特に、最近では、充電状態のまま待機していても、容量が減少しないという、いわゆる自己放電特性が着目されている。
 現在市販されているリチウムイオン二次電池では、正極活物質として層状構造のLiMO(MはCo、Ni、及びMnのうち少なくとも1種)またはスピネル構造のLiMnをベースとしたものがある。このような正極活物質を有するリチウムイオン二次電池は、主に4.2V以下の充放電領域を用いている(以下、リチウム金属に対して主に4.2V以下の動作電位を有する正極を「4V級正極」と記載することもある。)。また、負極活物質としては黒鉛などの炭素材料が用いられている。
 一方、LiMnのMnの一部をNiなどで置換した材料は、リチウム金属に対して4.5~4.8Vと高い充放電領域を示すことが知られている。具体的には、LiNi0.5Mn1.5等のスピネル化合物は従来のMn3+とMn4+の酸化還元ではなく、MnはMn4+の状態で存在しNi2+とNi4+の酸化還元を利用するため、4.5V以上の高い動作電圧を示す。このような材料は5V級活物質と呼ばれ、高電圧化によりエネルギー密度の向上を図ることが可能であることから、有望な正極材料として期待されている。
 このリチウムイオン二次電池の充放電過程において、リチウムイオンの脱挿入反応が電極と電解液の界面で起こるが、それらの反応以外に電解液溶媒や支持塩が分解反応を起こすことにより抵抗の高い皮膜が電極表面に形成されるなどして、本来起こるべきリチウムイオンの脱挿入反応が阻害される。その結果として、放電容量の不可逆的な低下などが促進され、電池の劣化へと繋がるため、それを抑制するために様々な工夫がなされている。
 その1つとして電極表面に保護膜を形成することにより上記分解反応を抑制する方法が挙げられ、その手段として電解液に皮膜形成能を有する添加剤として環状ジスルホン酸エステルを添加することが提案されている。例えば特許文献1、2には、環状ジスルホン酸エステルを電解液の添加剤として用いると、環状モノスルホン酸エステルを添加剤として用いたものよりも安定な皮膜が電極表面に形成され、電池特性の改善が図れることが記載されている。また特許文献3には、水分含有量が300ppm以下であるジスルホン酸エステルを含む電解液を用いることにより、電池特性の改善が図れることが記載されている。また特許文献4には不飽和結合を有する環状のジスルホン酸エステルを用いて電池特性の改善が図れることが記載されている。
 特許文献5には、リチウムに対して4.5V以上の高電位を示す正極材料を含有する二次電池において、非水電解質に環状スルホン酸エステルを含有させることによって、充放電特性、特に保存特性の改善が図れることが記載されている。特許文献6には、リチウムに対して4.5V以上で動作する正極活物質を含有する二次電池において、所定の式で表されるフッ素化エーテルと環状スルホン酸エステルを含む電解液を用いて、高温サイクルにおける容量低下の改善が図れることが記載されている。

 しかしながら、5V級活物質を含むリチウムイオン二次電池においてジスルホン酸エステルを電解液の添加剤として用いた場合、電池の自己放電量が大きくなることが明らかとなった。そのため、バックアップ用途など充電状態で長時間保持される用途においてはさらなる改善が求められている。従って本発明は、特に自己放電に伴う容量減少が抑制された、すなわち容量保持特性に優れた二次電池を提供することを目的とする。
 本発明は、正極と、負極と、非水電解液とを備えるリチウムイオン二次電池であって、前記正極は、リチウム金属に対して4.5V以上に動作電位を有する正極活物質を含み、前記非水電解液は、式(1)で表される環状スルホン酸エステルを含むことを特徴とするリチウムイオン二次電池に関する。

 本発明によれば、5V級活物質を含むリチウムイオン二次電池の、自己放電に伴う容量減少量を低く抑える、すなわち、容量保持率を高くすることができる。

<非水電解液>
 本実施形態におけるリチウムイオン二次電池の非水電解液(以下、単に「電解液」と記載することもある。)は、添加剤として、一般式(1)で表される環状スルホン酸エステル(以下、単に「一般式(1)の化合物」と記載することもある。)を含む。

 非水電解液に含まれる上記一般式(1)の環状スルホン酸エステルは、充放電反応時の電気化学的酸化還元反応により分解して電極活物質表面に皮膜を形成し、電解液や支持塩の分解を抑制することができる。これにより、リチウムイオン二次電池の長寿命化に効果があると考えられる。本発明者らは、スルホン酸エステルを含む非水電解液を備えたリチウムイオン二次電池についてより詳細に鋭意検討した結果、一般式(1)の化合物を含有する電解液を用いた5V級活物質を含むリチウムイオン二次電池では、電池の高温での容量保持特性、特に自己放電に伴う残存容量の維持特性が向上することを見出した。
 この理由について、本発明者らは、環状スルホン酸エステルの特定の箇所に置換基を有すること、具体的には、上記一般式(1)において、RおよびRの少なくとも1つが水素原子ではないことにより、支持塩の分解生成物と環状スルホン酸エステルとの反応性が低下し、電解液からの遊離酸の発生を抑制することができるためと推定している。
 従って、一般式(1)の化合物としては、RおよびRの少なくとも1つがアルキル基である化合物が好ましく、特に、1つがアルキル基で他方が水素原子であるか、2つともアルキル基である化合物が好ましく、1つがアルキル基で他方が水素原子である化合物が最も好ましい。
 RおよびRのうち1つがアルキル基で他方が水素原子である化合物が最も好ましい理由として、RおよびRの少なくとも一方が水素原子でない(すなわち、RおよびRの少なくとも一方が置換基である)ことにより、支持塩の分解生成物との反応性が低下する。しかしながら、RおよびRの少なくとも一方が水素原子でない(すなわち、RおよびRの両方が置換基である)場合には、一方がアルキル基で他方が水素原子である場合と比較して電極活物質表面における皮膜形成能が低下し、リチウムイオン二次電池の長寿命化の効果が低下してしまうためと考えられる。
 RおよびRのアルキル基としては、メチル、エチル、プロピル、ブチルおよびペンチルが挙げられ、これらは、直鎖でも分岐でもよい。特に、メチル、エチルおよびプロピルが好ましく、メチルおよびエチルがより好ましい。RおよびRのハロゲンとしては、フッ素、塩素、臭素、ヨウ素が挙げられ、中でもフッ素が好ましい。
 Rは、炭素数1~5のアルキレン基、カルボニル基、スルホニル基、炭素数1~6のフルオロアルキレン基、およびエーテル基を介してアルキレン単位またはフルオロアルキレン単位が結合した炭素数2~6の2価の基からなる群の中から選ばれる連結基を示す。なお、Rで表される連結基が非対称の場合、向きはどちらでもよい。
 式(1)のRにおいて、アルキレン基およびフルオロアルキレン基は、直鎖であっても分岐鎖を有していてもよく、直鎖であることが好ましい。直鎖アルキレン基の場合、アルキレン基は-(CH-(nは、1~5の整数)で表され、-(CH-(nは、1または2)で表されるメチレン基またはエチレン基であることがより好ましく、-CH-で表されるメチレン基であることがさらに好ましい。分岐アルキレン基は、-(CH-(nは、1~4の整数)で表されるアルキレン基の少なくともひとつの水素原子がアルキル基で置換されており、例えば、-C(CH-、-C(CH)(CHCH)-、-C(CHCH-、-CH(C2m+1)-(mは1~4の整数)、-CH-C(CH-、-CH-CH(CH)-、-CH(CH)-CH(CH)-、-CH(CH)CHCH-または-CH(CH)CHCHCH-等が挙げられ、-C(CH-または-CH(CH)-であることがより好ましく、-CH(CH)-であることがさらに好ましい。フルオロアルキレン基は、上記アルキレン基が有する水素原子の少なくとも1つがフッ素原子で置換されていることを意味し、全ての水素原子がフッ素原子で置換されていてもよく、フッ素の置換位置および置換数は任意である。フルオロアルキレン基は直鎖であっても分岐鎖を有していてもよく、直鎖であることが好ましい。直鎖のフルオロアルキレン基で、水素原子がすべてフッ素原子で置換されている場合、Rは-(CF-(nは、1~5の整数)で表される。フルオロアルキレン基として、具体的にはモノフルオロメチレン基、ジフルオロメチレン基、モノフルオロエチレン基、ジフルオロエチレン基、トリフルオロエチレン基またはテトラフルオロエチレン基が好ましい。
 式(1)のRにおいて、「エーテル基を介してアルキレン単位またはフルオロアルキレン単位が結合した炭素数2~6の2価の基」としては、例えば、-R-O-R-(RおよびRは、それぞれ独立に、アルキレン基またはフルオロアルキレン基を表し、RおよびRの炭素数の合計が2~6である)、または-R-O-R-O-R-(R、RおよびRは、それぞれ独立に、アルキレン基またはフルオロアルキレン基を表し、R、RおよびRの炭素数の合計が3~6である)が挙げられる。RおよびRは、いずれもアルキレン基であってもよいし、いずれもフルオロアルキレン基であってもよいし、一方がアルキレン基でもう一方がフルオロアルキレン基であってもよい。R、RおよびRは、それぞれ独立に、アルキレン基であってもフルオロアルキレン基であってもよい。例えば、-CH-O-CH-、-CH-O-C-、-C-O-C-、-CH-O-CH-O-CH-、-CH-O-CHF-、-CH-O-CF-、-CF-O-CF-、-C-O-C-、-CF-O-CF-O-CF-、-CH-O-CF-O-CH-等が挙げられる。
 これらのうち、Rは、アルキレン基、カルボニル基またはフルオロアルキレン基であることが好ましく、アルキレン基またはフルオロアルキレン基であることがより好ましく、-(CH-(nは、1または2)、-C(CH-、-CH(CH)-、モノフルオロメチレン基、ジフルオロメチレン基、モノフルオロエチレン基、ジフルオロエチレン基、トリフルオロエチレン基またはテトラフルオロエチレン基であることがより好ましい。
 中でも、Rは、-CH-、-C(CH-、-CH(CH)-、-CHF-または-CF-であることが好ましく、-CH-または-CF-であることがさらに好ましい。この理由は明らかではないが、式(1)で表される化合物が6員環構造の化合物であると、7員環構造の化合物と比較して皮膜を形成する際の電気化学的な反応性が高いため、より抵抗が低く、また、より強固で良質な皮膜が形成されるからであると推定される。Rは、-CH-で表されるメチレン基であることが特に好ましい。
 式(1)の化合物のうち、下記式(1-1)で表される化合物が好ましく、下記式(1-2)または式(1-3)で表される化合物がより好ましい。

 上記一般式(1)の好ましい化合物としては、例えば、式(1)中、Rがメチル基またはエチル基、Rが水素、Rがメチレン基またはエチレン基である化合物が挙げられる。中でも、式(1)中、Rがメチル基またはエチル基、Rが水素、Rがメチレン基である化合物が好ましく、Rがメチル基、Rが水素、Rがメチレン基である化合物がより好ましい。
 上記一般式(1)の化合物は、一種を単独で使用しても二種以上を併用してもよい。
 一般式(1)の化合物は、例えば、米国特許第49050768号、特開昭61-501089号公報、特開平5-44946号公報、特開2005-336155号公報などに記載されている製造方法を用いて得ることができる。
 一般式(1)で示される化合物の電解液に占める割合は特に限定されないが、電解液全体の0.005~10wt%で含まれることが好ましい。一般式(1)で示される化合物の濃度を0.005wt%以上とすることにより、十分な皮膜効果を得ることができる。より好ましくは0.01wt%以上添加され、こうすることにより、電池特性をさらに向上させることができる。また、10wt%以下とすることにより、電解液の粘性の上昇、およびそれに伴う抵抗の増加を抑制することができる。より好ましくは5wt%以下添加され、こうすることにより、電池特性をさらに向上させることができる。
 また、本実施形態において、電解液には、必要に応じて、上記化合物以外のその他の添加剤も含めることができる。その他の添加剤としては、例えば、過充電防止剤、界面活性剤、が挙げられる。
 非水電解液としては特に限定されないが、例えば支持塩を非水溶媒に溶解した溶液に添加剤として、上記の一般式(1)の化合物を加えて用いることができる。
 支持塩としては、例えばリチウム塩を使用することができる。リチウム塩としては、LiPF、リチウムイミド塩、LiAsF、LiAlCl、LiClO、LiBF、LiSbF等が挙げられる。リチウムイミド塩としては、LiN(C2k+1SO)(C2m+1SO)(ここで、kおよびmは、それぞれ独立して自然数であり、好ましくは1または2である)が挙げられる。これらは一種のみを用いてもよく、二種以上を併用してもよい。
 非水電解液中のリチウム塩の濃度としては、0.7mol/L以上、2.0mol/L以下であることが好ましい。リチウム塩の濃度を0.7mol/L以上とすることにより、十分なイオン導電性が得られる。また、リチウム塩の濃度を2.0mol/L以下とすることにより、粘度を低くすることができ、リチウムイオンの移動が妨げられない。
 本実施形態において、電解液は、非水電解溶媒として、環状カーボネートを含むことが好ましい。環状カーボネートとしては、エチレンカーボネート(EC)、プロピレンカーボネート(PC)、ブチレンカーボネート(BC)、ビニレンカーボネート(VC)などが挙げられる。また、これら化合物の水素の一部又は全部がフッ素で置換されていてもよい。環状カーボネートは一種を単独でまたは二種以上を混合して用いることができる。ECやPCは誘電率が高く電解質の溶解性に優れるので好ましく、ECがより好ましい。
 環状カーボネートの全非水電解溶媒中の含有率は、1~50体積%であることが好ましく、5~40体積%であることがより好ましく、10~40体積%であることがさらに好ましい。環状カーボネートの含有量が少なすぎると電解液の導電性が低下し、サイクル特性が劣化する可能性がある。環状カーボネートの含有量が多すぎると、環状カーボネートは、高電位では分解し易いことから、5V級の正極活物質を含むリチウムイオン二次電池においてはガス発生の増加が起こりやすくなる。
 本実施形態において、非水電解溶媒は、上記環状カーボネートに加え、式(2)で表されるフッ素化エーテル(以下、単に「フッ素化エーテル」と記載することもある。)、式(3)で表されるフッ素化リン酸エステル(以下、単に「フッ素化リン酸エステル」と記載することもある。)から選ばれる少なくとも一種を含み、二種以上を含んでも良い。以下、各化合物について説明する。
 本実施形態において、非水電解溶媒は下記式(2)で表されるフッ素化エーテルを含むことができる。

(式(2)において、R101及びR102は、それぞれ独立に、アルキル基又はフッ化アルキル基を示し、R101及びR102の少なくとも一つはフッ化アルキル基である。)
 R101およびR102の炭素数の合計が10以下であることが好ましい。
 フッ化アルキル基とは、少なくとも1つのフッ素原子を有するアルキル基である。式(2)中、フッ化アルキル基におけるフッ素原子の含有率はフッ素原子と水素原子の合計に対して50%以上であることが好ましく、60%以上であることがより好ましい。フッ素原子の含有率が多いと、耐電圧性がより向上し、リチウムに対して4.5V以上の電位で動作する正極活物質を用いた場合でもサイクル後における電池容量の劣化をより有効に低減することが可能である。
 フッ素化エーテルとして、具体的には、例えば、CFOCH、CFOC、F(CFOCH、F(CFOC、CF(CF)CHO(CF)CF、F(CFOCH、F(CFOC、F(CFOCH、F(CFOC、F(CFOCH、F(CFOC、F(CFOCH、F(CFOC、F(CFOCH、CFCHOCH、CFCHOCHF、CFCFCHOCH、CFCFCHOCHF、CFCFCHO(CFH、CFCFCHO(CFF、HCFCHOCH、(CF)(CF)CHO(CFH、H(CFOCHCH、H(CFOCHCF、H(CFCHOCHF、H(CFCHO(CFH、H(CFCHO(CFH、H(CFCHO(CFH、H(CHF)CHO(CFH、(CFCHOCH、(CFCHCFOCH、CFCHFCFOCH、CFCHFCFOCHCH、CFCHFCFCHOCHF、CFCHFCFOCH(CFF、CFCHFCFOCHCFCFH、H(CFCHO(CFH、CHCHO(CFF、F(CFCHO(CFHなどが挙げられる。中でも、フッ素化エーテル化合物として、H(CFCHO(CFHが好ましい。フッ素化エーテル化合物は、一種を単独で、または二種以上を組み合わせて使用してもよい。
 式(2)で表されるフッ素化エーテル化合物の含有量は、非水電解溶媒中0体積%以上90体積%以下であることが好ましく、15体積%以上80体積%以下であることが好ましく、30体積%以上70体積%以下であることがより好ましい。フッ素化エーテルの含有率が多すぎると、電解液の誘電率が下がり、支持塩が解離できなくなり、同様に容量低下が起こる。
 フッ素化エーテルは耐酸化性が高いため5V級活物質を含むリチウムイオン二次電池において、溶媒の酸化分解を抑えることができる。その結果、充放電サイクルの容量維持率の向上やガス発生を低減することができる。
 本実施形態において、非水電解溶媒は、下記式(3)で表されるフッ素化リン酸エステルを含むことができる。

(式(3)において、R、R、Rは、それぞれ独立に、アルキル基またはフッ化アルキル基を示し、これらのうち少なくとも1つがフッ化アルキル基である。)
 フッ化アルキル基とは、少なくとも1つのフッ素原子を有するアルキル基である。式(3)において、R、RおよびRの炭素数は、それぞれ独立に、1~3であることが好ましい。R、RおよびRの少なくとも1つは、対応する無置換のアルキル基が有する水素原子の50%以上がフッ素原子に置換されたフッ化アルキル基であることが好ましい。また、R、RおよびRの全てがフッ化アルキル基であり、このR、RおよびRが対応する無置換のアルキル基の水素原子の50%以上がフッ素原子に置換されたフッ化アルキル基であることがより好ましい。フッ素原子の含有率が多いと、耐電圧性がより向上し、リチウムに対して4.5V以上の電位で動作する正極活物質を用いた場合でも、サイクル後における電池容量の劣化をより低減することできるからである。また、フッ化アルキル基における水素原子を含む置換基中のフッ素原子の比率は55%以上がより好ましい。
 フッ素化リン酸エステルとしては、特に限定されないが、例えば、リン酸トリス(トリフルオロメチル)(Tris(trifluoromethyl)phosphate)、リン酸トリス(ペンタフルオロエチル)(Tris(pentafluoroethyl)phosphate)、リン酸トリス(2,2,2-トリフルオロエチル)[Tris(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)phosphate(TTFP)]、リン酸トリス(2,2,3,3-テトラフルオロプロピル)(Tris(2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl)phosphate)、リン酸トリス(3,3,3-トリフルオロプロピル)(Tris(3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)phosphate)、リン酸トリス(2,2,3,3,3-ペンタフルオロプロピル)(Tris(2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropyl)phosphate)等のフッ素化アルキルリン酸エステル化合物が挙げられる。中でも、フッ素化リン酸エステル化合物として、Tris(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)phosphate(TTFP)が好ましい。フッ素化リン酸エステルは、一種を単独で、または二種以上を組み合わせて使用することができる。
 非水電解溶媒に含まれるフッ素化リン酸エステルの含有率は、特に制限されるものではないが、非水電解溶媒中0体積%以上95体積%以下が好ましく、10体積%以上95体積%以下がより好ましく、20体積%以上70体積%以下がさらに好ましい。フッ素化リン酸エステルの非水電解溶媒中の含有率が10体積%以上であると、耐電圧性を高める効果がより向上する。また、フッ素化リン酸エステルの非水電解溶媒中の含有率が95体積%以下であると、電解液のイオン伝導性が向上して電池の充放電レートがより良好になる。
 フッ素化リン酸エステルも耐酸化性が高いため5V級活物質を用いた場合の溶媒の酸化分解を抑えることができる。その結果、充放電サイクルの容量維持率の向上やガス発生を低減することができる。
 本実施形態において、非水電解溶媒は、フッ素化エーテル、フッ素化リン酸エステルから選ばれる少なくとも一種を含み、二種以上を含んでも良い。非水電解溶媒において、これらの溶媒の濃度が高いほど電解液の分解が抑えられるため好ましいが、環状カーボネートとの相溶性やリチウム塩の溶解性をより向上するために二種以上含むことが好ましい場合がある。スルホン酸エステルとフッ素化溶媒の両方を含むと溶媒の高い耐酸化性に加えて、スルホン酸エステルの皮膜形成を補助する効果がありより好ましいと考えられる。
 本実施形態において、非水電解溶媒はさらに鎖状カーボネートを含んでもよい。環状カーボネートは粘度が高いため、鎖状カーボネートを混合することにより粘度を低減させることができる。鎖状カーボネートとしては、例えば、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)、ジエチルカーボネート(DEC)、エチルメチルカーボネート(EMC)、ジプロピルカーボネート(DPC)、およびこれらの誘導体(フッ素化物を含む)が挙げられる。
 本実施形態において、非水電解溶媒は、脂肪族カルボン酸エステル、γ-ラクトン、環状エーテル、上記式(2)以外の鎖状エーテル等を含んでもよい。脂肪族カルボン酸エステルとしては、例えば、ギ酸メチル、酢酸メチル、プロピオン酸エチル、およびこれらの誘導体(フッ素化物を含む)が挙げられる。γ-ラクトンとしては、例えば、γ-ブチロラクトンおよびその誘導体(フッ素化物を含む)が挙げられる。環状エーテルとしては、例えば、テトラヒドロフラン、2-メチルテトラヒドロフランおよびその誘導体(フッ素化物を含む)が挙げられる。鎖状エーテルとしては、例えば、1,2-エトキシエタン(DEE)、エトキシメトキシエタン(EME)、ジエチルエーテル、およびこれらの誘導体(フッ素化物を含む)が挙げられる。これらは一種を単独で、または二種以上を混合して用いることができる。
 非水電解溶媒として、これら以外にも、例えば、ジメチルスルホキシド、ホルムアミド、アセトアミド、ジメチルホルムアミド、ジオキソラン(例えば、1,3-ジオキソラン)、アセトニトリル、プロピオニトリル、ニトロメタン、エチルモノグライム、リン酸トリエステル、トリメトキシメタン、ジオキソラン誘導体、1,3-ジメチル-2-イミダゾリジノン、3-メチル-2-オキサゾリジノン、プロピレンカーボネート誘導体、テトラヒドロフラン誘導体、アニソール、N-メチルピロリドン、およびこれらの誘導体(フッ素化物を含む)を用いることもできる。
<正極>
 本実施形態における正極は、リチウム金属に対して4.5V以上に動作電位を有する正極活物質(5V級活物質)を含む。すなわち、本実施形態で用いる正極活物質は、リチウム金属に対して4.5V以上に充放電領域を有する。
 5V級活物質としては、リチウム含有複合酸化物であることが好ましい。リチウム含有複合酸化物の5V級活物質としては、例えば、スピネル型リチウムマンガン複合酸化物、オリビン型リチウムマンガン含有複合酸化物、逆スピネル型リチウムマンガン含有複合酸化物、LiMnO系固溶体等が挙げられる。
 特に、正極活物質としては、下記式(4)で表されるリチウムマンガン複合酸化物を用いることが好ましい。

 (式(4)中、0.4≦x≦1.2、0≦y、x+y<2、0≦a≦1.2、0≦w≦1であり、Mは、Co、Ni、Fe、CrおよびCuからなる群から選択される少なくとも一種であり、Aは、Li、B、Na、Mg、Al、Ti、Si、KおよびCaからなる群から選択される少なくとも一種であり、Zは、FおよびClのうちの少なくとも一種である。)
 Mとしては、Niのみ、あるいはNiを主成分としてCo及びFeのうち一種以上を含むことがより好ましい。Aとしては、B、Mg、Al、およびTiのうち一種以上であることがより好ましい。Zとしては、Fであることがより好ましい。このような置換元素は結晶構造を安定化させ、活物質の劣化を抑制する働きをする。
 正極活物質の平均粒径(D50)は、1~50μmであることが好ましく、5~25μmであることがより好ましい。なお、正極活物質の平均粒径(D50)は、レーザー回折散乱法(マイクロトラック法)により測定することができる。
 5V級活物質としては、リチウム金属に対して4.5V(vs.Li/Li)以上の充放電領域がある正極活物質であれば、上記式(4)以外の正極活物質であっても構わない。正極活物質表面に形成される皮膜の質や安定性は、その電位の影響が支配的であって活物質の組成による直接的な影響は受けにくいと考えられる。
 5V級活物質のほかの例としては、例えば、LiMPO(0≦x≦2、0≦y≦1、Mは、少なくともCo及びNiのうちの少なくとも一種である。)で表されるオリビン系の複合酸化物;LiMSiO(0≦x≦2、M:Mn、Fe及びCoのうちの少なくとも一種である。)で表されるSi含有複合酸化物;Li[LiMn1-a-b]O(0≦x≦1、0.02≦a≦0.3、0.1<b<0.7、Mは、少なくともNi、Co、Fe及びCrのうちの少なくとも一種である。)で表される層状系複合酸化物;等を使用することができる。正極活物質は、一種類を単独で、または、二種類以上を組み合わせて用いてもよい。また、上記5V級活物質に加え、4V級の活物質を含んでもよい。
 正極は、これらの活物質を、カーボンブラック粒状黒鉛、燐片状黒鉛、炭素繊維等の導電性物質、ポリビニリデンフルオライド(PVDF)、アクリル系ポリマー等の結着剤とともにN-メチル-2-ピロリドン(NMP)等の溶剤中に分散混練し、これをアルミニウム箔等の正極集電体上に塗布することにより得ることができる。
 正極用集電体としては、アルミニウム、ニッケル、銀、およびそれらの合金が好ましい。その形状としては、箔、平板状、メッシュ状が挙げられる。
<負極>
 負極は、負極集電体上に、負極活物質と負極用結着剤を含む負極活物質層を形成することで作製することができる。図1の非水電解液二次電池において、負極活物質を含有する層2に用いる負極活物質には、たとえばリチウム金属、リチウム合金、およびリチウムを吸蔵・放出できる材料からなる群から選択される一または二以上の物質を用いることができる。リチウムイオンを吸蔵・放出する材料としては、炭素材料および酸化物等を挙げることができる。
 炭素材料としては、リチウムを吸蔵する黒鉛、非晶質炭素、ダイヤモンド状炭素、カーボンナノチューブなど、およびこれらの複合酸化物等が挙げられる。これらのうち、黒鉛材料または非晶質炭素であることが好ましい。特に、黒鉛材料は、電子伝導性が高く、銅などの金属からなる集電体との接着性と電圧平坦性が優れており、高い処理温度によって形成されるため含有不純物が少なく、負極性能の向上に有利であり、好ましい。
 また、酸化物としては、酸化シリコン、酸化スズ、酸化インジウム、酸化亜鉛、酸化リチウム、酸化リン(リン酸)、酸化ホウ酸、およびこれらの複合物等が挙げられる。特に酸化シリコンを含むことが好ましい。構造としてはアモルファス状態であることが好ましい。これは、酸化シリコンが安定で他の化合物との反応を引き起こさないため、またアモルファス構造が結晶粒界、欠陥といった不均一性に起因する劣化を導かないためである。成膜方法としては、蒸着法、CVD法、スパッタリング法などの方法を用いることができる。
 リチウム合金は、リチウムおよびリチウムと合金形成可能な金属により構成される。リチウム合金は、例えば、Al、Si、Pb、Sn、In、Bi、Ag、Ba、Ca、Hg、Pd、Pt、Te、Zn、Laなどの金属とリチウムとの2元または3元以上の合金により構成される。リチウム金属やリチウム合金としては、特にアモルファス状のものが好ましい。これは、アモルファス構造により結晶粒界、欠陥といった不均一性に起因する劣化が起きにくいためである。リチウム金属またはリチウム合金は、融液冷却方式、液体急冷方式、アトマイズ方式、真空蒸着方式、スパッタリング方式、プラズマCVD方式、光CVD方式、熱CVD方式、ゾル-ゲル方式、などの適宜な方式で形成することができる。
 負極用結着剤としては、ポリフッ化ビニリデン、ビニリデンフルオライド-ヘキサフルオロプロピレン共重合体、ビニリデンフルオライド-テトラフルオロエチレン共重合体、スチレン-ブタジエン共重合ゴム、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン、ポリプロピレン、ポリエチレン、ポリイミド、ポリアミドイミド等を用いることができる。使用する負極用結着剤の量は、トレードオフの関係にある「十分な結着力」と「高エネルギー化」の観点から、負極活物質100質量部に対して、0.5~25質量部が好ましい。
 負極集電体としては、電気化学的な安定性から、アルミニウム、ニッケル、銅、銀、およびそれらの合金が好ましい。その形状としては、箔、平板状、メッシュ状が挙げられる。
 負極活物質層の形成方法としては、ドクターブレード法、ダイコーター法、CVD法、スパッタリング法などが挙げられる。予め負極活物質層を形成した後に、蒸着、スパッタ等の方法でアルミニウム、ニッケルまたはそれらの合金の薄膜を形成して、負極集電体としてもよい。
<二次電池の製造方法>
 本発明の非水電解液を用いた二次電池の構成について図面を参照しながら説明する。図1は、本発明の非水電解液を用いた二次電池の概略構成図の一例である。本発明に係る電池は、たとえば図1のような構造を有する。正極は、正極活物質を含有する層1が正極集電体3上に成膜されたものであり、負極は、負極活物質を含有する層2が負極集電体4上に成膜されたものである。これらの正極と負極は、多孔質セパレータ5を介して対向配置されている。多孔質セパレータ5は、負極活物質を含有する層2に対して略平行に配置されている。本発明の二次電池は、これら正極および負極が対向配置された電極素子と、電解液とが外装体6および7に内包されている。正極集電体3には正極タブ9が接続され、負極集電体4には負極タブ8が接続され、これらのタブは容器の外に引き出されている。本実施の形態に係る非水電解液二次電池の形状としては、特に制限はないが、例えば、ラミネート外装型、円筒型、角型、コイン型などがあげられる。
 二次電池の製造方法として、図1の二次電池の製造方法を一例として説明する。図1の非水電解液二次電池は、乾燥空気または不活性ガス雰囲気において、負極および正極を、多孔質セパレータ5を介して積層、あるいは積層したものを捲回した後に、電池缶や、合成樹脂と金属箔との積層体からなる可とう性フィルム等の外装体に収容し、添加剤として上記一般式(1)で表される環状スルホン酸エステルを含む非水電解液を含浸させる。そして、外装体を封止前または封止後に、非水電解液二次電池の充電を行うことにより、負極上に良好な皮膜を形成させることができる。また、その際、正極電位は4.5V以上と高くなるため、環状スルホン酸エステルが正極側でも酸化分解され正極表面に皮膜が形成されると考えられる。なお、多孔質セパレータ5としては、ポリプロピレン、ポリエチレン等のポリオレフィン、フッ素樹脂等の多孔性フィルムが用いられる。外装体としては、電解液に安定で、かつ十分な水蒸気バリア性を持つものであれば、適宜選択することができる。例えば、積層ラミネート型の二次電池の場合、外装体としては、アルミニウム、シリカをコーティングしたポリプロピレン、ポリエチレン等のラミネートフィルムを用いることができる。特に、体積膨張を抑制する観点から、アルミニウムラミネートフィルムを用いることが好ましい。
 以下、本実施形態を実施例により具体的に説明するが、本発明はこれらに限定されるものではない。
 以下の例で使用した化合物の略号について説明する。
EC:エチレンカーボネート
PC:プロピレンカーボネート
DMC:ジメチルカーボネート
FE1:H(CFCHOCFCF
FP:O=P(OCHCF
<実施例1>
(電池の作製)
 本実施例の電池の作製について説明する。正極集電体として厚み20μmのアルミニウム箔を用い、正極活物質としてLiNi0.5Mn1.5(以後、正極活物質Aと呼ぶ)を用いた。また、負極集電体として厚み15μmの銅箔を用い、負極活物質として黒鉛を用いた。そして、負極と正極とをポリエチレンからなるセパレータを介して積層し、二次電池を作製した。
(非水電解液の作製)
 非水電解液の溶媒としてECと、DMCと、FE1とを、EC:DMC:FE1=40:20:40(体積比)の比率で混合して非水溶媒(以後、電解液Aと呼ぶ)を調製した。支持電解質塩としてLiPFを非水電解液中0.8mol/Lとなるように溶解した。
 添加剤として、上記表1に記載の化合物No.1を非水電解液中に0.05mol/L含まれるように加えた。この非水電解液を用いて前記二次電池を作製した。
 上記のように作製したラミネート型電池を、室温にて5時間率(0.2C)相当の定電流で4.75Vまで充電した後、合計で8時間の4.75V定電圧充電を行ってから、1時間率(1C)相当の定電流で3.0Vまで放電した。その後、1C相当の電流にて再び4.75Vまで定電流充電、4.75Vにて定電圧充電した。この時の充電容量を保存前容量とした。その後45℃にて1週間保管した。その後、室温にて1C相当の放電容量を測定し保存後残存容量とした。以下の結果に示す容量保持率(%)は、(保存後残存容量/保存前容量)×100(%)と定義した。
<実施例2>
 実施例1において、化合物No.1にかえて化合物No.5を用いる他は実施例1と同様に二次電池を作製した。
<実施例3>
 実施例1において、化合物No.1にかえて化合物No.7を用いる他は実施例1と同様に二次電池を作製した。
<実施例4>
 実施例1において、化合物No.1にかえて化合物No.8を用いる他は実施例1と同様に二次電池を作製した。
<実施例5>
 実施例1において、化合物No.1にかえて化合物No.9を用いる他は実施例1と同様に二次電池を作製した。
<比較例1>
 実施例1において、化合物No.1にかえてメチレンメタンジスルホン酸エステル(以下、「化合物A」)を用いる他は実施例1と同様に二次電池を作製した。

 表2に示したように実施例1~5に示した電池は比較例1と比較して、容量保持率が向上していることが確認された。
<実施例6>
 実施例5において、正極活物質を正極活物質Aにかえて、LiNi0.5Mn1.3Ti0.2(以後、正極活物質Bと呼ぶ)とする他は、実施例5と同様にして二次電池を作製した。
<比較例2>
 比較例1において、正極活物質を正極活物質Aにかえて正極活物質Bとする他は、比較例1と同様にして二次電池を作製した。

 表3に示したように実施例6に示した電池は比較例2と比較して、容量保持率が向上していることが確認された。
<実施例7>
 実施例5において、電解液を電解液Aにかえて、EC:PC:FE1:FP=20:10:40:30(体積比)の比率で混合した非水溶媒(以後、電解液Bと呼ぶ)を用いて調製する他は、実施例5と同様にして二次電池を作製した。
<実施例8>
 実施例6において、電解液を電解液Aにかえて、電解液Bを用いて調製する他は、実施例6と同様にして二次電池を作製した。結果を表4に示す。

 表4に示したように実施例7、8に示した電池は比較例1、2と比較して、容量保持率が向上していることが確認された。
 本発明の活用例として、電気自動車やハイブリッド自動車、電動バイク、電動アシスト自転車などの駆動用機器、電動工具などの工具類、携帯端末やノートパソコンなどの電子機器、家庭用蓄電システムや太陽光発電システムなどの蓄電池などが挙げられる。

Claims (6)

  1.  正極と、負極と、非水電解液とを備えるリチウムイオン二次電池であって、
    前記正極は、リチウム金属に対して4.5V以上に動作電位を有する正極活物質を含み、
    前記非水電解液は、式(1)で表される環状スルホン酸エステルを含むことを特徴とするリチウムイオン二次電池。

    (式(1)中、R、Rはそれぞれ独立に水素原子、炭素数1~5のアルキル基、ハロゲン基、またはアミノ基である。但し、R、Rの両方とも水素原子ということは無い。Rは炭素数1~5のアルキレン基、カルボニル基、スルホニル基、炭素数1~6のフルオロアルキレン基、およびエーテル基を介してアルキレン単位またはフルオロアルキレン単位が結合した炭素数2~6の2価の基からなる群の中から選ばれる連結基を示す。)
  2.  前記正極活物質が式(2)で表される、請求項1に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池。

    (式(2)中、0.4≦x≦1.2、0≦y、x+y<2、0≦a≦1.2、0≦w≦1であり、Mは、Co、Ni、Fe、CrおよびCuからなる群から選択される少なくとも一種であり、Aは、Li、B、Na、Mg、Al、Ti、Si、KおよびCaからなる群から選択される少なくとも一種であり、Zは、FおよびClのうちの少なくとも一種である。)
  3.  非水電解液に含まれる前記式(1)で示される化合物は、Rが水素原子である環状スルホン酸エステルであることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池。
  4.  非水電解液に含まれる前記式(1)で示される化合物は、Rが-(CH-または-(CF-(n=1、2、3、4または5)である環状スルホン酸エステルであることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池。
  5.  非水電解液に含まれる前記式(1)で示される化合物は、Rが-C2m+1(m=1、2または3)であり、Rが-CH-である環状スルホン酸エステルであることを特徴とする請求項4に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池。
  6.  式(3)で表されるリチウムに対して4.5V以上で動作する正極活物質を含む正極と、負極と、非水電解液とを備えるリチウムイオン二次電池の製造方法であって、
     正極と負極を対向配置して電極素子を作製する工程と、
     前記電極素子と、式(4)で表される環状スルホン酸エステルを含む非水電解液とを含む外装体を封止する工程と、
     外装体の封止前または封止後に充電を行うことにより、前記負極上に皮膜を形成する工程を含む、リチウムイオン二次電池の製造方法。
