Description

발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 방법 및 도포 장치
본 발명은 발광다이오드에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로는, 발광다이오드의 발광 효율을 증가시키고 발광다이오드의 내부 회로를 보호하기 위하여 사용되는 저온 유리 실란트를 사용하여 발광다이오드를 도포하는 방법 및 도포 장치에 관한 것이다.
발광다이오드(Light Emitting Diode, LED)는 디스플레이의 백라이트 광원, 표시소자, 조명장치 등에 사용되고 있다. 일반적으로, 발광다이오드를 보호하기 위하여 에폭시 실란트(epoxy sealant)를 사용하여 발광다이오드 상에 도포하여 발광 소자를 감싸는 봉지부를 형성한다.
그러나, 발광 소자를 제조함에 있어서 에폭시 실란트를 사용하는 경우, 발광 소자의 광원으로부터 조사되는 자외선이나 장시간 고온 노출로 인한 갈변 현상 등으로 인해 열화되고, 그로 인한 효율 저하, 그리고 결국 발광 소자의 수명이 단축되는 문제가 발생하게 된다.
한편, 자외선과 온도에 안정적이어서 갈변 현상을 방지할 수 있는 재료로서 저온 유리가 고려될 수 있으나, 저온 유리 실란트는 비정질 세라믹 재료인 반면 에폭시 실란트는 고분자 재료이므로, 온도에 따른 특성이 상이할 뿐만 아니라 공정변수도 또한 상이하여 기존의 에폭시 실란트를 도포하는 방법이 사용되기에는 어려움이 따른다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 과제는 발광다이오드의 발광 효율을 증진시키고 발광다이오드의 내부 회로를 보호하고자 사용되는 유리 실란트를 백색 발광다이오드에 도포하는 방법 및 도포 장치를 제공하는 것이다.
상기 과제를 해결하기 위한 본 발명의 일 양상에 따른 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 장치는, 실란트 챔버와 실란트 노즐을 포함하는 실린지, 상기 실란트 노즐을 통한 유리 실란트의 토출 압력을 제공하는 실란트 가압부, 및 상기 실린지 주변에 설치되어 상기 유리 실란트의 토출 온도를 전이점 이상 녹는점 이하로 유지시키는 실란트 가열 유닛을 포함한다.

또한, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 장치는, 실란트 노즐(16)에서 노출되는 유리 실란트의 양을 조절하는 토출량 조절부(17)를 더 포함할 수 있다. 토출량 조절부(17)는, 예를 들어, 도 1 또는 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이, 실란트 노즐(16 또는 26)과 마주하게 설치되어 발광다이오드 측으로 도포되는 유리 실란트의 양을 조절할 수 있는 커터(cutter)(17 또는 27)일 수도 있고, 이와는 다르게, 도 3 또는 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 실란트 노즐(36, 46)의 전단, 예를 들어 하부 주입부(35 또는 45)에 설치되어 도포되는 유리 실란트의 양을 조절할 수 있는 밸브(37 또는 47)일 수도 있다.
다음으로, 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 장치를 도 2를 참조하여 설명한다. 도 2를 참조하면, 실란트 가열 유닛(24)은 실란트 챔버(23) 주변에 설치되어 실란트 챔버(23) 내부 온도를 유린 실란트의 녹는점 이상으로 가열한다. 즉, 이 경우에는, 실란트 가열 유닛(24)은 실린지(20) 중 특히, 실란트 챔버(23) 주변에 설치되어, 실란트 챔버(23) 내부 온도를 유리 실란트의 녹는점 이상으로 가열시키며, 실란트 노즐(27)까지의 전체 경로를 고려하면 전체적으로는 유리 실란트의 토출 온도를 전이점 이상 녹는점 이하로 유지시킬 수 있는 역할을 한다. 즉, 이 경우에는, 실란트 챔버(23) 내부는 유리 실란트의 녹는점 이상으로 유지되고, 실란트 노즐(27) 전단까지의 하부 주입부(25)는 유리 전이 온도 이상으로 유지되어야 할 것이다.
도 3 및 도 4는 앞서 토출량 조절부의 설명시 참조하여 설명되었고, 다른 구성요소는 각각 도 1 및 도 2에 예시된 것과 동일하므로, 중복 설명은 생략한다.
상술한 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 장치를 이용함으로써, 종래 발광다이오드의 봉지부를 형성하기 위해 사용되었던 에폭시 실란트의 경우 발생할 수 있는 자외선 조사 및 온도에 의한 갈변현상으로 인한 효율 저하 문제를 해결할 수 있다. 왜냐하면, 유리, 특히 저온 유리는 자외선과 온도에 안정적이므로 갈변현상을 방지할 수 있고, 더 나아가 칩과 봉지부의 굴절률 차이를 줄임으로써 전반사를 통한 빛의 손실을 줄일 수 있기 때문이다.
하지만, 저온 유리 실란트는 비정질 세라믹재료이고 에폭시 실란트는 고분자재료이므로, 온도에 따른 특성이 상이할 뿐만 아니라 공정변수도 다르다. 따라서 본 발명에서는 이러한 저온 유리 실란트의 온도에 따른 특성차이를 이용한다. 특히 점성 유동을 이용하여, 본 발명과 같이 유리 실란트 도포 장치를 사용하여 저온 유리 실란트를 도포함으로써, 갈변 현상을 방지하고, 발광 효율을 증가시킬 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 1 내지 도 4를 참조하여 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 방법을 설명하면 이하와 같다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 방법은, 실란트 챔버(13, 23, 33, 43)와 실란트 노즐(16, 26, 36, 46)을 포함하는 실린지(10, 20, 30, 40)를 이용하여 유리 실란트를 발광다이오드에 도포하는 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 방법은, 유리 실란트를 실란트 챔버(13, 23, 33, 43) 내에 장입하는 단계, 실란트 챔버(13, 23, 33, 43) 내에 장입된 유리 실란트에 대해 토출 압력을 제공하는 단계, 및 유리 실란트의 토출 온도를 전이점 이상 녹는점 이하로 유지하면서 유리 실란트 노즐(16, 26, 36, 46)을 통해 상기 유리 실란트를 토출하는 단계를 포함한다. 여기서, 토출 압력은 유리 실란트 노즐(16, 26, 36, 46)을 통해 유리 실란트가 토출되게 하는 압력으로서, 실란트 가압부(11, 21, 31, 41)에 의해 제공된다.
여기서, 실란트 챔버(13, 23, 33, 43) 내로 장입되는 유리 실란트는 150 - 250℃의 유리 전이 온도를 갖는 유리 재료일 수 있다. 또한 상기 유리 실란트는, 예를 들어, Sn, Zn, Pb, Sb 또는 Bi의 산화물 또는 이것들의 불화물을 포함할 수 있다. 또는, 이와는 다르게 유리 실란트는 B, P, Si 또는 Ge의 산화물 또는 이것들의 불화물을 포함할 수 있다.
나아가, 유리 실란트는 구조 안정제를 포함할 수 있으며, 이 구조 안정제로는 예를 들어, Al 또는 Zr이 사용될 수 있다. 더 나아가, 유리 실란트는 Li, Na, K 또는 Ca 등의 알칼리 또는 알칼리도 금속 산화물 또는 불화물을 포함할 수 있다. 더 나아가, 유리 실란트는 형광체를 포함할 수 있다.
유리 실란트 도포 과정에 관하여는 앞서, 도 1 내지 도 4를 참조하여 유리 실란트 도포 장치에서 설명한 부분이 그대로 적용될 수 있으므로, 중복 설명은 생략한다.

Claims (11)

  1. 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 장치에 있어서,
    실란트 챔버와 실란트 노즐을 포함하는 실린지;
    상기 실란트 노즐을 통한 유리 실란트의 토출 압력을 제공하는 실란트 가압부; 및
    상기 실린지 주변에 설치되어 상기 유리 실란트의 토출 온도를 전이점 이상 녹는점 이하로 유지시키는 실란트 가열 유닛을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 장치.
  2. 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 실란트 가열 유닛은 상기 실란트 챔버 주변에 설치되어 상기 실란트 챔버 내부 온도를 유리 실란트의 녹는점 이상으로 가열하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 장치.
  3. 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 실란트 가열 유닛은,
    상기 실란트 챔버 주변에 설치되어 상기 유리 실란트를 녹는점 이상으로 유지시키는 상부 유도 가열부와, 상기 실란트 노즐 주변에 설치되어 상기 유리 실란트를 전이점 이상 녹는점 이하로 유지시키는 하부 유도 가열부를 포함하는 유리 실란트 도포 장치.
  4. 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 유리 실란트 도포 장치는,
    상기 실란트 노즐에서 토출되는 유리 실란트의 양을 조절하는 토출량 조절부를 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 장치.
  5. 실란트 챔버와 실란트 노즐을 포함하는 실린지를 이용하여 유리 실란트를 발광다이오드에 도포하는 발광다이오드용 유리 실란트 도포 방법에 있어서,
    유리 실란트를 상기 실란트 챔버 내에 장입하는 단계;
    상기 유리 실란트에 토출 압력을 제공하는 단계; 및
    상기 유리 실란트의 토출 온도를 전이점 이상 녹는점 이하로 유지하면서 상기 유리 실란트 노즐을 통해 상기 유리 실란트를 토출하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 방법.
  6. 청구항 5에 있어서, 상기 유리 실란트는 Sn, Zn, Pb, Sb 또는 Bi의 산화물 또는 불화물을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 방법.
  7. 청구항 5에 있어서, 상기 유리 실란트는 B, P, Si 또는 Ge의 산화물 또는 불화물을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 방법.
  8. 청구항 5에 있어서, 상기 유리 실란트는 Al 또는 Zr로 이루어진 구조 안정제를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 방법.
  9. 청구항 8에 있어서, 상기 유리 실란트는 Li, Na, K 또는 Ca의 산화물 또는 불화물을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 방법.
  10. 청구항 5에 있어서, 상기 유리 실란트는 형광체를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 방법.
  11. 청구항 5에 있어서, 상기 유리 실란트는 150 - 250℃의 유리 전이 온도를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 유리 실란트 도포 방법.
