Definitions

  • This invention concerns a box assembly, and also a blank for making into a box assembly.
  • Box assemblies are used in a wide range of applications. In a number of instances it is required that the box can be delivered flat and can be made up in situ to an erect box. In a number of such instances it is required that the box provides an appearance appropriate to an item to be contained therein, such as a luxury item. In such an arrangement it may be required for instance for all cut edges to be concealed. Conventionally to provide a box assembly of this apparent quality it has been necessary to use hand made techniques.
  • a box assembly the assembly being selectively movable between a substantially flat out of use condition, and an erect condition with parts of the assembly defining a base, four upstanding side walls, and a lid pivotally movable between open and closed positions, the assembly being formed from a single blank by folding and gluing, and the assembly being configured such that in an erect closed condition, substantially none of the edges of the box visible from externally of the box are provided by cut edges of the blank.
  • edges of the box which are visible from externally of the box when erect and closed, may be provided by a respective fold between sections of the blank
  • An opposite pair of the assembly side walls when the assembly is in an erect condition may be inset relative to external edges of the lid and base.

The magnet may be concealed between two parts of the assembly.

  • the edge of the lid part main part opposite the first edge may connect via a fold to a closure flap, which closure flap in a closed position overlies the respective side wall, and an edge flap may be provided on the opposite edge of the closure flap to the lid part main part, which edge flap is folded over to the inner side of the lid part main part.
  • Edge flaps may be provided on the sides of the closure flap, which edge flaps are folded over to the inner side of the closure flap.
  • the base part may be formed from a rectangular main part, with one edge thereof connecting via a fold to a first side wall part, an opposite side of which first side wall part connects to the lid part. Edge flaps may be provided on ends of the first side wall part. Second and third opposite side wall parts may extend from the base part on either side of the first side wall part. Each second and third side wall part may include a first strip adjacent the base part, which first strip is glued onto the base part to define the indent of the respective second and third side wall parts.
  • An edge flap may be provided on each of the second and third side wall parts, which edge flaps are folded over to the inner side of the assembly.

  • Edge flaps may be provided on the sides of the closure flap, which edge flaps are folded over to the inner side of the closure flap.
  • the second and third side wall part edge flaps may have a curved outer edge which increases in size from each end to a mid portion of maximum diameter. The edge flaps on the first and fourth side walls may form corners connecting to the second and third side wall parts for the assembly when erect, and diagonal reverse folds and gluing may provide the corners, with substantially triangular portions of the edge flaps being glued to the respective one of the first and fourth side walls.
