  • the lower piece (50) is attachable to the thigh holder (14) using Velcro.
  • the lower piece (50) is preferably covering and holding the lower limb and maybe provided with a plurality of straps. Velcro is provided at the end of the straps (52).
  • the strap (52a) at the very end of the lower piece (50) may be folded in a manner to hold the patient feet within an opening (54).
  • the lower piece (50) is also provided by a vertical pocket (55) where a ruler like thermoplastic plate is inserted to prevent bending.

Whereas during surgical procedure, one fastener (16) maybe remove to allow for operational procedure and another fastener (18) is maintain for maintaining compression thus prevent sudden loss of tamponade effect in the pelvis which may cause death.

  • the pelvic immobilizer (10) is also radiolucent as shown in the cadaveric study (a study conducted on a dead patient body).

  • X-ray of the cadaver utilising the pelvic immobilizer (10) is captured using a portable X-ray apparatus before the orthopedic surgical external fixation procedure.
  • the pelvic bone (PB) can be clearly seen as illustrated in the X-ray view of the cadaver in the studies as illustrated in Figure 6a. Also can be seen in Figure 6a are the shadow of the fastener (16, 18) and the thigh holder (14).
  • the cadaver then undergoes the orthopedic surgical external fixation procedure while the pelvic immobilizer (10) is on the cadaver.
  • Access to the cadaver abdomino-pelvic area is through the opening (20) and the function of the separable portion (28) near the opening (20) by splitting the separable-portion (28) to produce two free ends (28a and 28b) movable for exposing more abdomino-pelvic area thus enabling surgical procedure while the cadaver is still on the pelvic immobilizer for maintaining of tamponade effect around the cadaver's pelvic area.
  • the fastener (18) was then disconnected and X-ray view of the cadaver pelvis was captured again using the portable Xray device as illustrated in Figure 6b.
  • Figures 6a-b also illustrates the gap or distance between the diathesis.
  • a back sleeve (24) is positioned at a back part of the binder (10) provides space for slotting pressure measurement apparatus that is connectable to a pressure monitoring device.
  • the back sleeve (24) may also include a readily inflatable means, wherein the inflatable means may be made of plastic or rubber having a gas input which function to adjust the pressure on the patient pelvic area. Gas is supplied through the gas input to inflate the inflatable means for pressure measurement and monitoring around the patient pelvic area. It also provides cushion effect for relief of pressure effect on the skin of sacrum and coccyx.
  • an independent and separate belt (32) may also be provided, wherein the belt (32) has color marking which function to indicate the suitable size of the pelvic immobilizer (10) and may be used for holding of bind the lower limbs together during transport.
  • the plurality of fastener (16, 18) maybe selected from zippers, snaps, buttons, hooks, adhesives or any combination thereof are contemplated as possible front fastener (16, 18), yet female and male snap fit is preferred.
  • the fastener (16, 18) is made of radiolucent materials.
  • the material for the pelvic immobilizer (10) is preferably selected from a material that has a cooling effect, slightly stretchable, skin friendly, washable and durable.
  • the most preferred material is polyurethane (PU) or leather.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un dispositif d'immobilisation pelvienne (10) destiné à immobiliser le bassin en cas de troubles traumatiques. Ledit dispositif d'immobilisation pelvienne (10) comprend un élément d'attache (12) permettant d'encercler la zone pelvienne d'un patient, ledit élément d'attache (12) possédant deux extrémités et une pluralité de fixations (16,18) reliées à la partie antérieure de l'élément d'attache (12). Ledit élément d'attache (12) est pourvu d'une ouverture (20). Le dispositif d'immobilisation pelvienne (10) est avantageux car il fournit un accès à la zone pelvienne du patient et permet une fixation externe chirurgicale orthopédique pour la progression tandis que le dispositif d'immobilisation pelvienne (10) se trouve sur le patient.
